First, you need to identify this particular hotel because there are about 5 others called 'Santa Grand' in Singapore. This one is Santa Grand Hotel Lai Chun Yuen. It is right in the middle of Chinatown just a few minutes walk to Chinatown train station (the trains are superb and get you just about anywhere). The street at the front...

There is no cheap hotel in Singapore; this one is relatively a good value choice. Old grand Chinese. Free fast wifi but could be noisily at night when Chinatown is in its full force. Easy walk to all the eatery.

This hotel is very loud at night, I was kept up until about 1 or 2am each night due to the noise. Other than that it was a good stay, the rooms are small but it's Singapore what do you expect?! The hotel is very close to the Chinatown MRT stop so it's easy to get around town.

Shower water doesn't drain in the bathroom, cockroaches in the room, killed a few.. leaking roof in the reception hall, hence that bad smell, very uncomfortable ''sofas'' and a bellhop who always pressurizes for huge tips and finally the manager who charged my card even after I have paid all the money upfront. Don't ever go near this kind of sleazy...

I got a great deal on a 3rd floor room with a colonial style window and the whole experience was absolutely wonderful. of course the room was small but it's downtown. if I could name one downside, it would be the fact that there is a DURIAN shop selling FRESH DURIAN like right underneath my window. barf.

Great hotel for solo traveller. Nice people, nice 19th-century ambiance inside the hotel. Best location - SG Chinatown. Very close to MRT, food stalls, shopping centers. Going out of the hotel, there are hundreds of stors - for food and shopping already. Since it is close to Chinese New Year, the area is noisy. Some rooms - you will hear...

The hotel is conveniently located in the middle of Chinatown, just a few minutes away from the MRT station. The room was very, very small - with an even smaller bathroom - but still comfy and stylish.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colourful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
