This place is great if you have just a short break in Singapore and particularly if you are traveling solo. The location in Chinatown feels more authentic than Orchard Rd and there's plenty to do around here (Chinese heritage centre, night markets, massage and spa). While I like the concept of Hotel 1929 and I'm very comfortable in a compact...

Warm greetings from Hotel 1929, Thank you for the constructive feedback. Housed in a conservations building, our rooms are indeed on the smaller side. The rate which starts from SGD 168 ++ includes breakfast for 2, complimentary mini bar, wifi and local calls. We hope this clarifies. Your note on the noise made by the cleaning staff in the early...

I had done my research so having read the many complaints on trip advisor was prepared for a tiny cramped room. Also having arrived from the E&O in Penang was expecting disappointment. But not at all! Our stay of 7 nights here was a delight from beginning to end. The room was ingenious in the use of space and we...

Greetings from Hotel 1929! Thank you for taking the time to drop us a line here. Our rooms are indeed on the smaller side, housed in a conservations building. Perhaps for your next stay you would like to check out our sister property, the New Majestic Hotel just one street away in Chinatown. Till then, safe travels and see you...

Superior Single room on 3rd Floor. 3 night stay. Breakfast, WIFI Internet and bottled water/soft drinks in the fridge are complimentary. I am not finding the room small at all as other reviews seem to suggest. I find it very comfortable and adequate space for a person travelling on their own. The bed is slightly raised to allow suitcase to...

Dear Denise07012, Warm greetings from the team at Hotel 1929! Thank you for your kind review of the hotel. We're pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and had a good night's sleep. With regards to the sharp table edge where the basin is placed, it is well noted. We have since taken measures to place rubber corner protectors...

We stayed at this hotel recently. The room that was allocated to us was so small that we had no place to place the luggage but to place it below the bed. There were hardly any room for the 2 of us to move around the room. To create more walking space, each time one of us need to move...

Dear derrick69, Thank you for the feedback. We are disappointed that we didn't meet your expectations during your stay with us. Housed in a conservations shop house, space is indeed a constraint. We have however, designed the rooms to the best of our abilities, to accommodate the basic needs of a modern traveller. We understand the lack of space therefore...

I stayed at 1929 in early December 2011 and i really enjoyed it. The location of it is definitelly one of the selling points. It is actually in the quite part of Chinatown next to excellent eateries and about 20-25 min walk from the river. The rooms are very clean and even though very small, they are well designed and...

Small efficient room but very clean. Friendly Staff. Free in room Wifi. My only criticism is that the hallways are un-carpeted so you hear everything outside your room ie late night returners and early morning flight people dragging there belongs, footfalls. I am not too picky and I bring earplugs while traveling but if you are sound sensitive I would...

The room is small, you will need to push your suitcase under the bed to give you more space. The shower is in the same frosted-glass enclosure as the toilet so things get wet. Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colourful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
