Getting there
Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
I prefer boutique hotels over big chains, and Casa Bueras did not disappoint. The staff was welcoming and attentive; the room was clean, spacious, and charming; and the breakfast had something for everyone - fruit, cold cuts, yogurt, cereal, eggs cooked to order, toast, pastries, juices, espresso, and tea. The location is outstanding, a five minute walk from all the shops, restaurants, and bars in Lastarria (but still relatively quiet) and no more than a 20-minute walk from almost anywhere we wanted to go in Santiago. Taxis in the neighborhood were plentiful and several metro stations were nearby. Management allowed a late check out on our day of departure for 50% of the daily room rate to accommodate a late flight, which we greatly appreciated.

Our third stay in Santiago (2018, January and February 2024). This was probably our favourite hotel as far as location is concerned, very close to Lastarria and the centre of Santiago. We had a very pleasant stay.
The hotel was a comfortable boutique hotel, staff were friendly and helpful and a wide selection of food was available for breakfast.
The swimming pool/garden area was small but a very peaceful area to relax in.
Bedrooms were reasonably sized and very comfortable.
Some feedback for the hotel, would be nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room or complimentary tea/coffee in the bar area. The honesty bar was a little confusing, we wanted a glass of red wine and ended up having to buy a bottle.

This boutique hotel is positioned right in the heart of the restuarant area of Santiago.
Incredibly friendly and helpful staff who all speak good English. We stayed for one night on three different occasions as we travelled around Chile and left our excess luggage (including a bike!) with them each time for no charge.
They booked airport taxis for us whatever time our flights were and generally made our life easy. (Including providing a sandwich breakfast for us when we had to leave too early for breakfast). There is no Restuarant in the hotel but numerous varied restuarants within a 5 minutes walk.
The hotel was very security conscious and we felt very safe. Comfortable rooms with good baths which included plugs (we found many hotels didn't). Honesty bar and lovely area to sit out in a wall garden right in the centre of Santiago.

So many reviews are not very honest anymore, and I was suckered by other reviews when picking this hotel. So, Let me be honest so you control your expectations. First, the Casa Bueras has very helpful front desk employees. The rooms/bedding/pillow variety is good. The location is convenient to BellaVista area and the funicular. There is no coffee or tea in the rooms. The “honesty bar” area has soft drink cans for $2500($2.50) and does have a complex coffee machine that I was told “use it if you know how”. Well, I have never been a barista, so I could not work the huge machine that had at least 5 compartments and spouts. I did read that Breakfast was good at this hotel, but I cannot confirm that because it was never ready at 7am when advertised and needed. If you are taking any of the full day tours to Valparaiso, Casablanca, or the Andes, for example, know that the tour bus pickup here is about 730am as this location is usually first pickup and last dropoff. The breakfast lady doesn’t even look at you to offer a coffee until about 725am, thus no time to even drink it. Upon HER arrival at 7am, she goes through a 25-minute ritual putting out cold plates of meats, fruits, and other items while ignoring your presence, your pressure for time, and your yearning for your first cup of morning coffee (as the room has no kettle). We experienced this two days in a row. Eggs cooked to order were only seen from a sign during our stay, as we never had enough time to wait for her attention to guests, and left with only a couple of bites of fruit each day. We had a junior suite with a patio, but the patio atmosphere is just “meh”, with little greenery, a view of an old apartment building (not park), and a tattered umbrella. The room itself for the Junior is cramped. For the price paid, I would not choose this hotel again and was disappointed overall with my stay of three nights (for almost $600 usd). I think there is better value elsewhere in Santiago.

Room Tip:Don’t expect breakfast on time. Smaller room for the Junior suite.

We were all set to give this hotel 5* as initially things were really good: - very friendly and informative greeting by the manager (we think - he spoke very good English) - we were given an upgrade to a lovely larger double room, which was nicely done and some thoughtful finishing touches. - reception ladies lovely and also very helpful - breakfast adequate with hot food cooked to to order and cappuccinos available. - Nice sheltered Terrace area in front of the pool although the pool would have benefitted from a robot floor cleaner.
Where it all turned a bit sour was later in the evening and our unfortunate encounter with the night reception man…
NIGHT RECEPTIONIST (MALE) The Night Receptionist needs to go on a Customer Care course; he was very unhelpful when we stated that the AC wasn’t working in our room and it was still 27c - could we please borrow a fan? No, this was not possible as he had the only fan! Several phone calls later it was suggested that we moved rooms (at 10:30pm!) Eventually a fan was found that we were begrudgingly given!
Prior to this, this same man had ordered us a taxi to La Cabrera Isidora steakhouse at double the price it cost us to return; perhaps he gets a cut?! Use Uber…
This was all quite upsetting and most unpleasant - we’ve never been treated with such disdain and rudeness. Last time I checked, we were the paying customer!
So disappointing after such a welcoming start.

This is an interesting hotel. If i recall correctly it was a former embassy. The hotel was the bones to be special with some TLC. Our room was on the main floor with a terrace. The Terrace was below grade and needed a good cleaning and better furniture. The room and bathroom were clean but small. We were a little disappointed with the room. The included breakfast was served in a very nice second floor room with outdoor seating. There was a honour bar in the room in the afternoon and evening. We were provided with a nice bottle of Chilean wine in our room. The staff and front desk clerk were extremely helpful and friendly. I would give the hotel a qualified recommendation. Again this hotel could be great with a good refresh. Location was perfect to walk and find restaurants. Santiago is a great city and the hotel location allowed us to explore by walking.

This is a very odd hotel. It’s in a great location, we walked nearly everywhere. Lastarria has a lively restaurant scene and is on the door step. We walked to the main shopping area, Menuda Palace and Plaza de Armas. The street it was on was very quiet at night but that might have been because the road was part closed for roadworks. The adjacent roads were not quiet.
We had booked a Junior Suite so we could have a sitting area and a private terrace. The room we got had neither but when we enquired we were told we had been upgraded to a suite. We had a table and chairs but no sofa which is what I had hoped for. The room was large with antique furnishings and well lit and looked onto the street. The bathroom was large and quite smart. The bed was comfortable and we had a fridge, AC and a safe. It just didn’t fit my expectation of a suite (ie has separate sitting area).
There is a small dining area and an outside terrace but no real lounge area other than outside. The breakfast is served in the dining area and was adequate. There was a bowl of fruit on day1 which went slowly down and was never replenished. Eggs were available with bacon which was a real treat. The pastries seemed a poor selection and a bit stale. The coffee was good and they have decaffeinated.
There is a pool in the garden but it was absolutely freezing and not usable. The really odd thing was that you hardly ever saw anyone. It was rare to see another guest and the staff only seemed to be behind the front desk. There is an honesty bar rather than a real one but they didn’t have a lot of the items on the list. It was a bit like a ghost ship, except for one day when we came back to find it being used as a photo shoot with young people draped everywhere.

Lovely little boutique hotel with lots of character. Nice breakfast with eggs/bacon cooked to order. Honesty bar when not staffed. Wine not sold by glass - carry a wine stopper for the bottle and save any left over in the room fridge for the next drink. Great location - a few minutes walk to the lovely restaurants of Lastarria as well as walking distance from city centre. Very safe area to stay.

The attention is terrible. I made a reservation for the day before my wedding, with the aim that they could make up and fix us (for me and the godmother) and unfortunately, we were told that they could not access, and that in case they left them it should be for 1 hour “since it is not allowed in the policies”. It made me very angry as it was the end of the reservation and that the staff was notified in advance and also when we checked in, we told the receptionist PM who told us that there were no problems. I finally had a really hard time at 6:00 am arguing with the staff to let the makeup artists through.
The administrator/manager did not have the delicacy to even go and explain these policies to us in person and when we checked out it was rude and unprofessional. I believe that this man is not useful to work in hospitality because he has little empathy and treats his staff like slaves.
In addition, they don’t have parking and tell you in advance, “you should leave the car out and it’s dangerous.” Then they don't give you confidence or encouragement to book.
For the price, I think there are many more options in santiago.
Kind regards

This is a charming hotel in a historic building and great neighborhood. It felt very safe, you can easily walk around and to the restaurants in Lastarria and other places in the city. I loved Cerro Lucia which is not far from the hotel! My room was clean and very nice, comfortable bed and large bathroom. I much appreciated the complimentary bottle of Chilean wine and loved sitting outside in the quiet patio to relax, listen to the birds and read when I was back at the hotel. The best part was the staff, everybody incredibly friendly and helpful. They even prepared a picnic lunch for me when I had to catch an early flight! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.

Dear Sue and Peter,
Thank you for writing us. Our windows are able to be opened but our Single room has a window with an internal view and our Handicap room is on the first floor and it has an small window overlooking to the street.
Regards,
The manager
The hotel can arrange airport transfers. $40 US each way. When we departed they added the $40 US to our hotel bill. All we had to do was tip the driver-- actually tipping is optional. We had a van that was clean and in good condition. The driver was professional. The drivers in Santiago are all pretty good.
We were warned repeatedly about traffic, but we got from the hotel to the airport in 20 Minutes in what would be considered the start of rush hour.
Dear Mrs. Janein,
Thank you for your interest in our Hotel.
We have just an exercise bike and a treadmill.
