I stayed here October 2005 after I couldn't book into the Majestic and was so glad I ended up here. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was compact but spotless. The hotel was fully booked when I arrived and they apologised for the smallish room. I was there on business for five nights and told there were larger single rooms I could move to the next day, but I felt settled so didn't change. There was wi-fi internet in my room but the hotel also has a business centre with two computers which had internet access and a free printer. The little bar was very pleasant, the basement restaurant quite small, but the food was nice, although some of the dishes weren't available. Stir fries were delicious!Breakfast had an interesting selection with wonderfully soft rolls but also brownies, cheesecake and one day lemon meringue pie! The coffee was good (especially if you have been enduring the Nescafe and lukewarm water served in much of Chile).
The reception staff spoke good English and helped with directions and getting taxis. On asking for an iron and board one day, it arrived about two minutes later and the man even set it all up in my room. The location is also good with easy access to the park with the cable car and if you stay you must visit the sculpture park just two minutes away.
Access into the city is also easy, just a stroll across the bridge and you are there. I would definitely stay here again.

We found this to be a perfect place to stay. The staff was the friendliest we had in all of Chile, the rooms big, clean, comfortable, and the hotel is in a very quiet and safe neighborhood within a short walk to the downtown area. The breakfast for free was incredible, fresh berries, meats, etc. The even made fresh pisco sours and brought them up to our room. The next day we walked to the sky tram thing, and took it and the funicular up and over the mountain. I would highly recommend this hotel, and we got a very good walk-in price.

We found this to be a great value. The staff was very helpful and accommodating, allowing us a late check out. Breakfast was good and the location is a little quieter than the Hotel Orly that we also stayed at. It is a little less convenient to restaurants and the subway, but also a little more tranquil.

I stayed at the Best Western Los Espanoles hotel in early April 2008 at the end of a three week trip thru South America. This small hotel is in a quiet and safe residential area, just across the concrete Napocho River from the Providencia district, Avenue Providencia and the Los Leones Metro/subway stop. The hotel, while not in the center of town, was an easy walk across the Suecia Street bridge to a large number of restaurants, shops and busses that made getting downtown very easy.

The hotel, an old hacienda, was a confusing maze of hallways and stairs that lead to rooms of various sizes and configurations. My room, on the ground floor in front of the hotel, was very large with a sitting area, small bathroom, large picture windows, comfy bed and a large TV. I read other reviews indicating that some rooms were smaller and others had Jacuzzi-type tubs. The room rate included breakfast, buffet style, in the restaurant on the lower level that was acceptable, nothing special, consisting of cereal, eggs, pastries, fresh fruit, coffee and juices. There were also 2 free Internet PC's just off the lobby that were always in use. There was also a bar/cocktail lounge for late night drinks and snacks.

I arrived at the airport from Buenos Aires and took the TransVIP van service to the hotel for $11 (yes, they accept greenbacks) or 4.900 Chilean Pesos. Pay the attendant in the booth just outside the international arrivals area and he gives you a receipt. Take the receipt and show the driver standing next to one of the 4 vans parked at the curb (be sure to have your hotel name and address written down on a piece of paper if you don't speak Spanish) and they will tell you which van to get in going to the correct area of town. My van (7 passengers and 1 driver) filled up and left 10 minutes after I boarded. I was the second person off so the trip was very quick, cheap and efficient. I also used this service from the hotel back to the airport; have one of the hotel staff call the telephone number at the bottom of the receipt the morning you intend to leave to make a return reservation for the same cost. TransVIP recommended I arrive 3 hours before my flight but that seemed unnecessary as check-in, immigration, customs and security only took 30 minutes and I waited and wandered the airport for over 2 hours with nothing to do before my long (10 hour) international flight home.

I would and have recommended this hotel to others. The entire hotel staff spoke excellent english and I had no problems during my 3 night stay at this hotel in Santiago. The hotel even held my luggage for me as I explored the city on my last day in town before my late (9:30 pm American Airlines) flight back to DFW.

My only complaint about Santiago was the $131 "Reciprocal Entry Fee" charged at the airport of arriving US residents ($150 for Canadians). I've never been charged this fee or it's always been included in the airline ticket. The one-time fee is good for the length of your passport so returning to Chile in the future should be less expensive.

We ended up in this place when our first choice was full, but in the end we were so glad. It's quaint, quiet and convenient. Rooms are a little small, but they are well maintained the price is great. This part of Santiago is beautiful and tranquil, which makes it a great place to recover from traveling before tackling the madness of the city’s center. Now, we always look for a room at Los Espanoles first.

I was told that Chile was unsafe to travel as a single woman. I stayed at the Best Western for two nights and never felt unsafe. It's located in a residential area but 2 or 3 blocks over the river from a Metro station and an area that has plenty of shops and restaurants. The room was rather small but the bed was very comfortable. I can't say enough about how nice and helpful the staff were. Always ready with information, calling cabs, giving directions etc. Maybe I was the only American there or maybe they are very good at knowing who their guests are because one evening I was in their bar area having a snack and a phone call came in for me and they knew I was there and brought the phone to me instead of putting into the answering service. I only gave them 4 stars because the room was quite small although it was fine for me. For service (and a very nice breakfast, it beats the Best Western breakfasts in the States) it gets a 5 star plus.

Great little hotel in Santiago. It is located in a residential neighborhood a short (safe) walk across the river to the busier parts of Providencia. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rates are quite reasonable. Each room is different, so one stay might be different from another. I stayed here twice in my visit to Chile. The first time in room 308, which has a nice large bathroom with a whirlpool tub. The second time I stayed in 306, which has a tiny bathroom with just a shower stall. The staff, however is what makes the hotel great. I haven't had such great service anywhere else.

We are currently staying at this hotel and have to say it really is as good as the other reviews mention.

The staff are all fantastic, they can't do enough for you.

The breakfast has something for all tastes and they keep it well stocked right up till the end, the tea and coffee is pretty good too.

The rooms are really clean, with comfy beds, cable TV with English chanels (News 24 etc..) and the bathroom has a nice powerful hot shower.

The hotel is in a brilliant location with some of best restaurants and coffee bars that we've found in the city very nearby (inc. Starbucks) . I'd recomend that you avoid the restaurants around Av Suecia though (this area is ok but it's pricey and very touristy), instead walk a few blocks down to Orrego Luco where you'll find some great places that are always full of locals.

The metro is easily accessable by foot and quick and safe.

And there are also plenty of laundries off of Av Providencia, we used www.lavanderiaykavaseci.cl which was under $2 a kilo, and did our wash in one day.

If possible print off the directions and a map from the hotels website for taxi drivers as the hotel is small and a little hard to find.

I left my luggage in storage on the last day and on my way back home, I found that someone had stolen the ipad charger cable from my bag. The only time the bag was out of my possession was on this day after I had packed everything up. They left the bottom part of the charger as the connection is different to that of Chile and have just taken the White USB cable charger that was connected to it. After reading the review below of a stolen phone, I can now see that this was defintely NOT a one off and a lot of care has to be taken at this hotel (and obviously its sister hotel - the espanoles in santa maria best western plus - as it's the same management team)

My overall experience of the hotel was a good one up to this point. The staff were extremely friendly, the service very good, the room was nice/clean and the location was excellent given that the event I was attending was at the intercontinental hotel. However, due to what happened to my iPad charging cable, I will never be staying here again, which is a real shame.

A note to Mr. Aguilera - After seeing your response on the last review regarding a theft at this hotel and now after this incident...I believe instead of making the customer out to be a liar, that you should investigate thoroughly what exactly is going on at your hotel, as it is obvious that someone at the hotel has access to this storage room who definitely should not.

At check-out, I had to leave my luggage in the hotel storage room for 3 hours, since the check out was at 12 pm, but my flight was at 6 pm. I came back after 3 hours and my cell phone which was worth $700 was not there anymore. I let the staff know about it immediately. The manager was not there that day, so they told me we would compensate the damage, but we have to talk to the manager first. I sent an email to the manager right after I arrived to the airport. I contacted her 3 times, and finally she responded to my email messages. She said she had asked the person who took my luggage to the room, and he said that he had not steal your phone!!!

Since I was not convinced, I contacted the corporate headquarters. They said they had to follow that up with the hotel manager and they would let me know in 7 days. I also talked to the manager of customer relations. They have not even contacted me. So, I called them, and they simply said that sorry for the bad experience you had in this hotel, but we have not found your phone!!!
The day that they stole my phone, the Police was in the hotel. I wanted to talk to the Police, but they could not speak English and I could not speak Spanish. Besides, if I wanted to file it, I needed to stay there for three days to go to their office and report it there.

So, basically, they can simply steal your stuff and there is nothing you can do.
During my stay in Santiago, I kept my valuable belongings in a safe box, but last day, I thought, since I was not using my phone in Santiago, it would be wise to leave it in the storage room, assuming the hotel storage room is safe and only trusted people are allowed to go in and not thieves.

Response from espachile, Gerente at Hotel Los Espanoles
Responded May 5, 2011
Dear Mrs. [--] : Good afternoon , first of all let me tell you that the reason I did not respond you before was because I did”nt work the last weekend. Also I wait the opportunity to talk with the employee involved in this stranger and unique case. Roberto Urtecho is his name , and was the only employee who entered to the room where was stored your luggage. ( we have the daily registers ) . When you came back to the hotel to pick up your bags , the front desk man , Alejandro Ramos , came into the room to give you back to you , and that took about fifteen seconds. He declared that he did not have any idea that you left a cell phone in your bag pack. Only you knew that. Roberto declared the same us Alejandro . Roberto works with us since 3 years ago and every day he stores baggage or luggage at the store room and is the first time that a guest claim us for something lost inside the room. It was a very special situation and I want you to ask you please , if is a possibility that you lost it in other place outside the hotel , or may be if you went out and carried in your hand bag and somebody stoled you outside or anywhere you went that day. Is very unfair to make a judgment against somebody that in all these years has been very trusted in his job. I am very sorry for your bad experience lived in Santiago , but the BW Hotel Los Españoles can not be responsible for and object that was not declared. Best regards Patricio Aguilera Manager BW Hotel Los Españoles

No there is no elevator in the hotel. There are some rooms on the first floor so no stairs are required. The main restaurant is downstairs but there is a bar area on the main floor where they are happy to serve meals if needed.
