When we arrived by car I went into the hotel to get a luggage trolley. The bell boy studiously ignored me and simply walked away with the only available trolley. No offer of help or explanation, awful treatment.
The check in clerk was very quick and efficient. Later on I enquired about the shuttle to the airport and was given a very brusque and bad mannered response from a different person.
On the other hand, we ate in the restaurant and were served by two very helpful and efficient waiters.
Management needs to monitor staff standards and weed out the bad behaviour of some individuals who are letting the side down.

We stayed two nights. The room was clean, well-appointed, and the beds comfortable. The pleasant bathroom had a good shower with plentiful hot water.
Staff was pleasant. The restaurant had a limited menu, but the food was well-prepared.
This is a good hotel for air travelers.

Checked into Hotel Diego de Almagro for one night on an overnight layover in Santiago. It’s a budget hotel but one of the better ones I’ve stayed at. Why?

1) Rooms are clean and spacious (a little basic, not super modern or anything, but I paid under $100USD for the night so I can’t complain)

2) The bathroom was big, the shower had good water pressure and lots of hot water, and the bathroom mirror has a built in defroster so it’s not steamy when you get out of the shower.

3) Restaurant was decent. Not expensive and food was good. Breakfast buffet (included in my rate) had scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, cereal, yogurt, fruit, pastries, coffee, juice, etc. No complaints!

4) Hotel also has a pool, which looked nice but I didn’t use. I saw a handful of people using it though!

5) Airport transfers to/from SCL were included in the rate.

All in all a good place for a quick and inexpensive overnight stay!

The room is fully functional with toiletries provided. One onsite restaurant as well. I was able to check-in slightly early. Gym has water and you can refill water bottle. The airport shuttle to/fro hotel is seamless. The shuttle to hotel is frequent. From hotel to airport, the frequency is every 30 minutes; told receptionist pickup time of 6.30am (plane departs 8.30am). The shuttle came 15 mins early and departed on time to domestic terminal - perfect! Receptionist was able to provide a takeout breakfast (bread with ham & cheese, yogurt, biscuit, pear) as Sunday breakfast starts at 7am. The price is so much cheaper compared to staying at the airport terminal hotel.

The only reason that you might want to stay at Hotel Diego de Almagro Santiago Centro is to be extremely close to the airport for a connection. It´s conveniently located within minutes of the terminals via a free shuttle service for guests. Beyond that the Diego De Almargo is a fairly expensive and unattractive facility with poor service. We paid over US $100 per night, and I literally had to beg in order to get them to cook some hard boiled eggs for my wife. They advertise themselves as four-star service, but it´s hardly the case. Skip it if you can…

The hotel is old and not too clean. It seems like a 2-hour hotel but is conveniently located if your intentions are not to visit Santiago and be near the airport. They have a good shuttle that leaves to the airport every half hour and are obsessively punctual.

Had a one night stay here as a result of an overnight flight transfer (flying to Easter Island the next morning). DA Aeropuerto appeared to be the best value (i.e. cheapest) for an airport hotel near Santiago Airport (SCL), at least when I went.

Note for Australians: You will need to pay a visa reciprocity fee prior to clearing immigration. The signage is quite obvious. I recall the fee being 117USD or there-abouts. You can pay via USD in cash or by major credit cards.

The airport is close to the airport yet it is not really within walking distance. Having said this, there is a free transfer service with TransVIP. To get to the hotel you will need to exit customs and immigration. At exit 3 you will see a TransVIP desk. Once you show them where you are staying via a printout of the hotel reservation the counter staff will issue you a pair of dockets. Exit the terminal building at exit 3 and take an immediate right - the grey TransVIP shuttles are effectively next to the exit. You will generally need to wait until there are sufficient passengers to depart.

The hotel and rooms are somewhat dated, the only real issue that may impact people is that the airconditioning units can be quite loud. I turned the aircon off to sleep.

In terms of dining options outside of breakfast - there is not much available other than the hotel restaurant. I'm sure if you try you can get to somewhere with restaurants, however I was not all that adventurous this time around. (I went for a quick stroll around the block and that was enough for me to head back to the hotel!). Food at the restaurant wasn't all that good - yet the standard was what I expected. Staff were pleasant.

Breakfast is complementary and starts early. Apparently breakfast starts as early as 4am! I ate at 5:30am and people were already present when I arrived. Breakfast is served in the same area as the restaurant mentioned above. Simple fare - cereal, some fruits, bread, and a small selection of cheese and cold meats.

In terms of getting back to the airport - the hotel has its own shuttle to ferry guests. The ferry leaves every 30 minutes (on the hour and at half-past).

Would stay again if I had an overnight transfer. Did the job that I expected.

Rooms are spacious.
Hot water generally fine.
Bed is comfortable
WiFi is satisfactory for general use but not for high data download
Breakfast has cereal fried eggs toasts ham cheese tea coffee juice yogurt

Location: the hotel provide free shuttle from the airport but instructions may not be clear. Go to TRANSVIP counter near exit door 3 in the arrival terminal. Tell them you have a reservation in this hotel. They will ask for your passport and then they will treat it like you are a paid passenger by giving you a receipt with a dollar figure on it. Don't worry they won't charge you, this is only for them to charge the hotel I guess. You then take the receipt outside door 3 and turn right to find a TRANSVIP COORDINATOR they have a jacket indication. They will then assign you on a van and after trying to fill up the van (about 6-8 people the wait can take about 5-15 min), they will drive you to hotel (about a 8 min drive)
The way from hotel to airport is much easier. They have free shuttle at :00 and :30 every hour. Just indicate your intention of jumping on a shuttle while you have breakfast.

Be very careful when staying at this hotel. I left my luggage at the luggage room for a short trip to mendoza and it got stolen. They showed me the cctv records and i could see someone breaking in the hotel and taking my suitcase. The hotel manager Mr. Gerardo said they couldnt put their lifes in risk to save my lugagge, and that said, they couldnt pay for my clothing and personal belongings.

Hi Laurie, go to the Transvip shuttle counter which is just after the doors that you exit through after collecting your luggage. Show them your hotel reservation and they will put you on a shuttle to the hotel, this service is free. The shuttle van will have Transvip written on it, not the hotel's name. The hotel is used to guests coming at all hours so leaving your luggage with them until your room is ready will not be a problem. From the hotel to downtown Santiago you could take a taxi (we have used a Uber once but not for the same journey and it was fine, note though people in Santiago have different views of Uber), alternatively you could take the hotel shuttle to the airport (this shuttle van will have the hotel's name on it); the shuttle leaves every 30 mins on the hour and at half past. From the hotel you can take the bus Centrepuerto (cheaper than the other airport transfer bus) to downtown Santiago - the bus stops at a few stops so check online which stop you want to get off at. Bear in mind the protests areas too. We spoke a little Spanish but navigating with English should be fine as long as you know the names of the places you are going.

1. You can save some money if you do taxi and metro combination to downtown. You can take a taxi from hotel to Pajaritos metro ($7,000 Dec. 2017 price, one way) and then Metro $740 one way). Based on my experience this is very easy trip. 2. Yes => The round trip to and from the airport to and from the hotel was free in Dec. 2017

There are no shops near by. The only restaurant in walking distance is the hotel restaurant. This hotel is not in a shopping district it is in an industrial district.
