Castillo Rojo Hotel Boutique —“The Red Castle”— is located at the center of Plaza Mori in the heart of Bellavista. The neighborhood is famous for its live music, theater, fine restaurants and exciting nightlife. We are one block from the Pablo Neruda House, Patio Bellavista and the Funicular to the summit of San Cristóbal Hill. The iconic Red Castle, was originally built in 1923 as an elegant private home and it quickly became known as a meeting place for locals and visitors alike. In 2013, it was lovingly re-imagined as a boutique hotel, with original furniture, restored fireplaces and woodwork, light fixtures and other design elements true to the style of the 1920s. Today, Castillo Rojo offers modern comforts and luxuries, including 19 individually climate-controlled guest rooms, a wine bar, and exciting restaurant.

Hotel Boutique Castillo Rojo was absolutely amazing! Their top-quality service started before our stay even began when they let us store our hiking backpack for 3 nights before we arrived so we didn't have to fly it with us to Atacama. We received the bag again when we checked in and were pleasantly surprised with a small bottle of Chilean sparkling wine in our room. Our room was spacious, immaculately clean and well decorated. The bathroom was also huge and very nice! The free breakfast was delicious and they even have a daily wine hour with Chilean wine. Everyone we interacted with from the front desk staff to the breakfast crew were so kind & accommodating. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

Hotel's Favourite
I'm shocked at some of the negative reviews. We just spent 5 nights in the hotel and had a great experience (and this is two well-traveled spoiled Americans!). The hotel is quaint and well-appointed, the rooms are clean and have all amenities, and the staff has been very courteous to us. Their breakfasts are yummy and the location is great. To address some of the points I read about in reviews: - The staff was extremely courteous. Our originally booked hotel decided not to open for the season and neglected to tell us, so there we are, at 11 pm in a strange country without accommodations. Lucky for us, Castillo Rojo was very close and we tried our luck. The staff accommodated us, offered us some lodging options and we decided to stay in the higher priced room until it was no longer available due to prior reservations, and move out to the smaller room after that. Great. - The staff did help us with our luggage upstairs even thought it was super late. No issues. Didn't even have to ask (we did have to call down and ask of them to come up and help us when we moved out, but that's normal) - Cleaning - yes, there is a big sign in plain English that is very visible in the room that says "if you need your room to be cleaned, just let us know". You can't really miss it. The hotel is conservation conscious (biodegradable everything, vintage decorations, lovingly restored furniture), so they do with cleaning what all hotels are now doing with towels - we will be happy to accommodate, just let us know. Honestly, my husband and I were happy that strangers enter our room only by invitation. But we find turn down services in hotels a bit intrusive. So, no problem, we called when we needed cleaning, which was exactly one time during our stay between two rooms. We are two adults who can keep the space straight for a couple days at a time. But they had no issues coming up and cleaning our room when called. - Their breakfasts are yummy. The menu offers complete meals and has quite a variety. It's not a full service restaurant (and a free breakfast), so them not accepting substitutes is quite reasonable. Yes, they did charge for a side of bacon that my husband wanted with every meal, but they should, really... it wasn't that much and we were happy to pay. The food was very good. Honestly, after making our initial picks we stayed with them for the duration of our stay (dulce de leche pancakes and avocado toast). Yummy! - The breakfast menu does say that it's 2 cups of coffee, but I think it's more a matter of clearing tables quicker than anything else. Coffee (great coffee) is FREE 24/7 in the 2nd floor lounge (which I highly recommend to hang out in, it's fabulous). I took advantage of it and got a cup of coffee every morning to wake up and enjoy the view from the balcony. We have not tried to ask for a 3rd cup, but I can't imagine it's a problem. - We stayed in rooms 5 and 14 during out stay. If you are to book the hotel, I highly recommend room 5 - it's spacious, well decorated and has a balcony with furniture that overlooks the courtyard. I really, really enjoyed drinking my coffee there. A great space! Room 14 is a small, typical room on the last floor (my husband called it "Les Miserables Quarters" LOL), is well furnished and great, but no balcony and much smaller.... and cheaper. - The only suggestion I would make for a hotel is to fix the shower head in room 5 for better water pressure. It was fine enough, but when we saw 'what could be' when we moved to 14, improvement is possible. Great showers. This hotel is in a very, very fun and safe area. We loved staying there. And, of course, it's cute as a button. Santiago is such a fun town, hope people can focus on fun and not small issues that can be easily solved by either paying attention to the rules or asking! Highly recommend!

Can't say enough good things about this hotel, especially as a solo traveler. Stayed 4 night in late March. I'm not a Large hotel or AirB&B guy. The hotel felt it was still in the 1920's, with special touches: candelabras, crystal water coolers, orchids and a beauitful second floor lounge and bar. The staff was wonderul and attentive, specifically Erica and Laurato at front desk. Fresh breakfast, eggs made to order, fresh fruit, good Columbian Coffee. So any restaurants no more than a block away. Garden bar next door was very nice. Very good restaurant Viva right acorss the street. One block to funicular and a HopOnHopOff bus stop.

We loved this hotel so much. It is our favorite hotel we have ever stayed in, in over 47 years of travel. It is not some big fancy hotel, but a hotel with character. The hotel itself is charming. It has a very good location. The room was beautiful, but it is the staff that makes this a truly great hotel. From the moment we arrived we were treated exceptionally. Barbara was there to check us in and ended up helping me take up my bag and also ended up coming back to the room later to help my husband learn how to use the safe (we all started laughing about it.) Barbara helped us with reservations and also with getting money. She recommended places to us. In fact, one of her recommendations ended up being my second favorite restaurant in Santiago. Erica was helpful from the moment we met her making reservations for me and going so far as to try and find me a tour of what I wanted to see which she did but unfortunately we didn’t get to go because we were leaving the only day it was taking place. She also recommended places to us and showed us ways to go to places we wanted to get to. Daniel helped with wine hour and my husband love the wine hour very much. The breakfast staff was incredible making us feel special and taking care of our breakfast needs. The staff was so kind at this hotel when I left, I felt like I was leaving family and not hotel staff. The owner of this hotel truly has a special staff. If I ever visit Santiago again, I only want to stay here. I miss them all so much!

A fabulously unusual hotel, steeped in history, all of which has been preserved in the refurbishment to the hotel. The staff were fantastically friendly and helpful - without exception. The breakfast was adequate. There were plenty of communal areas, both inside and outside in which to read, and chat to other guests. The hotel providing bottles of wine for Wine Hour (5-6pm) was a really nice touch and brought guests together to share recommendations/stories etc

Absolutely loved our stay here! My husband and I stayed at the Castillo Rojo for 4 nights after our trekking in Patagonia, and were looking forward to a relaxing stay and a little rest. The room, and the bed, were very comfortable, so it made it easy to catch up on some great sleep. The hotel is in a great location, surrounded by restaurants and a short walk from San Cristobal and the funicular. We walked to the Lastarria neighborhood several times and always felt safe. The building also sits on its own little square, where we got to watch a local band play and on another evening, people learning to dance:) The hotel has a lot of character and is very clean. The complimentary wine hour is also a great time to meet other guests and exchange recommendations and stories. They also have a lovely shaded courtyard, and we would love to see the hotel make more use of this area, maybe for cocktails, etc. *Now for the most important part: the hotel staff is outstanding in their willingness and effort to make your stay in Santiago perfect. Before our arrival, the front desk reached out about how they could help us plan our stay. We scheduled airport transfers and a day tour of the city before we arrived. Once there, we had so much help choosing restaurants, making reservations, and even arranging a private tour of a winery for us. A huge shoutout to Barbara and Erica for all of their help and enthusiasm. We would most definitely stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay here due to its location, friendly staff and the hotel's fun and quirky vibe. Staff helped with restaurant recommendations which were spot on. One staff member lent me her personal umbrella to use as a parasol when we decided to take the funicular in the afternoon when it was the hottest time of day. That was really sweet. The room itself was clean and comfortable. Good bed, good wifi, okay water pressure. We missed having a bar but the afternoon wine tasting--which was self service, two bottles of wine in the lounge area with guests socializing--was fun. Breakfast was okay though service (for hot cooked orders) was slow to very slow. But the staff are cheerful. The hotel is very close to La Chascona, Pablo Neruda's Museum house as well as to the funicular that takes you up to the summit of Cerro San Cristóbal .

Castillo Rojo is a fun and quirky boutique perfect for those looking for more. With a great location close to everything it stands out first because of the color. Inside it’s even more magical with fabulous rooms, an amazing breakfast, evening wine tasting and a truly warm and welcoming staff. Old world charm in the new world. I stayed here for two nights in January and it was fantastic! The hotel was walking distance to the subway and there were lots of restaurants nearby. My room was awesome: the bed was comfortable, the shower was great, and it had so much character. I didn’t partake in the complimentary wine but the breakfast was delicious. After traveling for two weeks with my broken Spanish, I really appreciated the English-speaking staff. The hotel arranged a taxi to the airport for me without issues. I was a solo female traveler and felt very safe.

We loved this hotel! It’s beautiful inside and out. The staff was fantastic. Erica helped me get gluten free cakes for my husband and organized a surprise breakfast celebration. Every morning Diego greeted us with friendly enthusiasm, inviting us to have special coffees, any type of eggs, fruit, etc. Daniel offered to help with transportation. Beautiful 2nd floor common area is the meeting place for a complementary glass of wine at 5 every night. There’s also a shaded patio outside where you can relax for a while. Our room was great and the bed extra comfy. Air conditioning was quiet and cool. The hotel is near restaurants, jazz clubs, Cristóbal….we felt safe the whole time.
