We were mainly happy about our visit, the staff is super friendly, the decor is pretty cool, and the rooms are ok. The breakfast was nice too. Kitchen is a bit tiny for the amount of people, but serves the job so we were happy with that too. However some very basic things could be improved, We were staying in a room with stairs where the beds were located upstairs of the room, close to the roof. Although the hostel states that there is silent time after 11pm or so, both nights there was very loud music and sounds of drunken people coming from the roof and even hallways. I understand it's a hostel but I think the personnel should be able to make people stick with the common rules to make sleeping possible for other customers.
Stayed in a private twin recently and had excellent experience. Phillipo greeted us and made us feel safe and welcome. The hostel overall is stylish with great features and a really super bar and restaurant attached. You can feel a little overwhelmed by the area on arrival so to be able to have a cocktail and (one of the best) burgers in town was a real bonus. The hostel has great kitchen and dining facilities but the best thing in our opinion was the terrace - so cool and peaceful with great views. It’s noisy at night so take your ear plugs! It’s far out from the old town - we used Uber a lot ! But felt the hostel was worth being further away from the main action.
Great place. Very friendly staff. Nice terrace and restaurant. Unfortunately the location is in a shady part of town and we got robbed in our second night. Luckily the staff was very helpful and they even offered us free beer and fries afterwards. Would very much recommend - but take an Uber if you are going out in night time.
We booked this hostel for couple of days before we started our travelling and we wanted to see the fireworks for new year. Well we all know that the political situation in Chile is not the best. When we arrived on the 30th December it was all fine in the city. The staff in La joya hostel were amazing, friendly and very helpful for things to do in the city and where to watch the firework. They also have nice restaurant attached to the hostel where the food is so good!! The rooms were amazing too and split over two floors so even in a dorm we felt like we had some privacy. They also have two kitchens and a rooftop! We want to say thank you to all the staff of la Joya. If there is one thing “negative” we want to say it is the location, it’s not horrible location because you can get any bus or the metro to go in the centre but it is not the safest place of Valparaiso if there is a protest. Again nothing wrong with the hostel. :)…
Nicely decorated hostel in retro style. Clean and friendly staff. Breakfast in extensive and delicious. The bar and restaurant are great with a roof terrace. This hostel is definitely a recommendation
