The small was much smaller that we pictured. We had to move sideways inside the room in order to go to the toilet. The kitchen facilities were poor. The kitchenette was behind the reception and only 1 person at a time could get there.

Excellent place to be, close to the river and the big staircases, was the best place for exploring the city. With a complex of three buildings (i think) has amenities for all tastes. I stayed in the dormitory area (4 bed dorms) and i had one of my best sleeps in my travel..cheap dorms, nice beds, excellent wifi, good communal... More

The hostel is very nice, easy check in, rooms and the whole hostel very clean, lovely wooden furniture too! Hot showers, quiet hostel, you can pay an extra $3.50 per person for breakfast which was nice, coffee, eggs, tasty bread, juice and fruit. The owner is really lovely and helpful, she doesn't speak much English however her male friend does... More

We stayed at Casa Cuencana for 5 nights in total. Martita the owner and Jenny the cleaner were both sweet and welcoming to us. We were given the room at the top of the hotel, with a nice skylight and plenty of space for our stuff, yoga, and even a hammock. We were grateful to have a clean kitchen, clean... More

Our family of 5 recently spent 11 nights at La Casa Cuencana. It was clean and comfortable, our rooms were attractively decorated, and Andrés and his family were unfailingly helpful and courteous. We appreciated the use of the kitchen. La Casa Cuencana is very centrally located and made a wonderful base from which to explore the city. Although we could... More

The rooms with a shared bathroom are awful! The rooms only window opens onto the super squeaky wooden stairs which lead to the echoey kitchen/common area, if your fellow guests decide to skype in this area late at night you are going to hear every word as if they were in the room with you- even with foam earplugs in!... This is quite honestly the worst hostel in terms of noise I have ever stayed in, and that is a very large statement for ecuador! The Sydney Opera House would be proud of the acoustics that this hotel generates, which is fantastic for opera but terrible for a hostel. There is also an issue with the light management of the... We arrived in the early evening and the owner's son seemed confused upon our arrival. We made an online booking and it seemed they weren't expecting us whatsoever. My partner and I were then shown to our "room," a crooked lopsided closet-sized area 2 inches from the breakfast area, with a paper-thin wall separating our bed from the dining room.... More

“The hostal is split into two sections, which are a few doors down from each other on the street. If you book a dorm room or a private room with shared bathroom then you stay in one (which has a kitchen), and if you book a private room with a bathroom you stay i the other (which doesnt have a kitchen, but you can go down the street to use the other one).”
