We stayed with our son and his girlfriend three nights in late February. We loved the feel of the place and the bedrooms were charming. The beds were good but like in many older places storage in the bathroom was at a premium.

LATAM has several flights a day from Quito, and it's about a half hour in the air. The planes are relatively new Airbus 319s and 320s, and LATAM (formerly LAN) has an excellent safety record. It does not appear that you can fly directly from Guayaquil to Cuenca, as you have to fly to Quito first. The bus ride is long, and many buses don't have an on-board bathroom. We booked our one-way flight from Cuenca to Quito only 3 days in advance, and it was $167 for two adults.
