This hotel is beautiful, clean and the staff could not be more attentive. We stayed there along with family and friends for our son's wedding. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They accommodated every special request we had like one room being cleaned early in the morning so that we could use for the hair and makeup for the wedding party. In addition, we needed to leave early to catch our flight out and they graciously opened the restaurant 30 minutes early so that we could have breakfast. Location could not be better. I highly recommend you stay here if you are visiting Cuenca.

Magical stay! We stayed four nights at the Mansion Alcazar. It’s a charming boutique hotel just minutes’ walking distance to Cuenca’s main town square. Location is central, safe and very convenient.
The hotel has a lot of history and character. It used to be the home of an Ecuadorean president in the late 1800s. The inner courtyard and upstairs rooms feels like you’re being transported back in time. The place is adorned with plush sofas and chairs, antique lamps, old photos, even a fountain. Feels like a historic museum.
Rooms are spacious and modern. We were upgraded to a second floor room with a view of the beautiful garden below. Bathroom and showers are modern, clean and well lit.
The garden is an absolute gem. It’s got leaf-covered archways and colorful flowers that Ecuador is world famous for - roses, daisies, hydrangeas. This is a place where you can easily spend hours reading a book with a nice cup of coffee. Your own private tropical oasis!
In the middle of the garden is a quaint glass house that is the hotel restaurant, Cocotte. We had breakfast here everyday. Enjoyed fresh juice, eggs Benedict and freshly baked pastries. We also had dinner our first night here. The squid ink fettuccine le noir with langoustines was fantastic.
Service at the hotel is great. The front desk staff helped arrange day trips of Cuenca and the surrounding towns. They also set up transportation to the airport. When it rained a bit outside, they offered us an umbrella without us needing to even ask. It’s attention to details like this that makes your stay feel special.
Cuenca was our first stop in Ecuador before heading to Quito and the Galápagos Islands. The Mansion Alcazar was definitely a highlight of the trip. If you want a place in Cuenca with character, charm and a relaxed ambience, look no further. Highly recommend it!

I was here with a group of friends in this amazing location, in old town Cuenca, the restaurant is placed in a beautiful garden with a lot of flowers. The service was impecable, the staff was helpful. The chef suprised us with exquisite flovours combining local food with french cuisine. The peak of the experience was the serving of the desert combined with a vist from chef Hector Rojas. We will definately return to try all the dishes. Gracias!

Mansion Alcazar is an old colonial house (apparently at some time it was owned by a person who become the president of Ecuador) and converted into a hotel. This is boutique hotel so you should not expect the amenities or design of a modern hotel. For example, many rooms are on the second floor but there is no elevator. Yet, the charm of the place, and the service is outstanding. They include breakfast (buffet style) with plenty of Ecuadorian food (bolones de verde, mote pillo, etc) as well as amazing fruit.

Fantastic beautiful building, friendly staff and nice spacious room. Only ours was next to busy parking so we slept badly (busy at the weekend, cars coming and going and lots of honking). Breakfast was buffet, we missed decent bread. So all in all, we found the place too expensive for what we got (even though we got a discount on taxes). I also noticed locally that you slept cheaper by booking last minute (we booked months in advance and 20% more expensive).

Despite all the good reviews, we did not enjoy our stay here at all.
First of all, the room we had was tiny and the bed was not big enough for a couple of adults (maybe an adult and child). We had to squeeze together so tight, it was impossible to sleep. Forget about turning during the night - there is no room to move in the bed without falling out onto the floor.
There is also zero soundproofing, which means that when someone is playing the piano in the courtyard, you will not be able to get any rest in your room. I had a migraine one evening and couldn’t close my eyes and relax because the music was so loud in our room. It was like being in the front row of a concert.
Most disappointing, however, was probably the breakfast. We stayed in a number of hotels while traveling around Ecuador and this was the worst breakfast we received. Two eggs on a plate with no garnish, no side dishes, nothing. Just two eggs. For a hotel that bills itself as having a delicious French restaurant, the breakfast was laughable. Why not serve croissants and jam, a croque monsieur, or anything worthy of the restaurant itself? We would not return.

We welcome your comments! They help us to improve our service every day. When making reservations, the size of the bed in the room is indicated, this in order to guarantee your comfort. We have piano nights two days a week from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, being a colonial house, most of the rooms have windows towards the interior, that is why we do it early. Our breakfast consists of several entree options with fruit and yogurt as well as a variety of eggs, toasts, breads, for the enjoyment of our customers. We regret not having met your expectations, we hope to serve you in the next opportunity.

We stayed here for 2 nights during our trip to Cuenca and we were very comfortable and happy. The place is beautiful, with a stunning common area just past check in, and at times they have very good live piano and violin music there. Then there is a garden area outside in the back with tables and chairs, also very beautiful and serene. The concierge (Veronica) was EXTREMELY helpful for our entire stay. She provided excellent guidance and information, and consistently helped us arrange transportation and plan outings. She also speaks very good English, which helps a lot because we are beginner level Spanish speakers. The room was nice, the bed comfy, and the restaurant had delicious complimentary breakfast. We didn't get to eat lunch or dinner there due to time constraints, but the menu looked good. The location is central to a lot of the local attractions. Its a short walk to the Cuenca sign in San Francisco Square, the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, the Mercado 10 de Agosta, the flower market, and many others. We would absolutely stay here again, and I have to once more emphasize how helpful Veronica was to us during our stay! Talk to her about your plans and wants and she will give you lots of great help!

The staff was super friendly and professional. Everyone always smiling at you 🙂.
The restaurant has an amazing view and the food is delicious. The chocolate mousse was amongst the best I’ve ever tried. We also ordered the papardelle with Parmesan sauce and it was great.
We stayed at one of the suites in front of the garden (305). It was pretty quiet and spacious. The shower had very good water pressure and hot water always.
My husband and I recommend this hotel 100%.

Have to echo the other positive reviews. This is a delightful place to stay; less fussy than its formal luxury makes it appear on first glance, with stellar but unobtrusive service and a gorgeous garden. I particularly enjoyed the turndown service complete with hot water bags for warmth under the sheets at the foot of the bed. The location can't be beat. Breakfast was satisfying and when we had to leave early for a flight, they expedited the coffee and got our car out of the included lot before the official service time. A wonderful stay.

Hello Robert,
Because of its furnished style, the hotel by itself is very warm in cold seasons. But there is a fireplace in the restaurant area that is close to the garden.
Cuenca weather is usually cold, specially at night. We have 2 areas, the old republican house where you have 3 Suites with windows, you don't need Air Conditioning. in the modern area, the rooms are colder, so we've recently installed a heating system.
Best Regards,
Saludos cordiales,
