Katari is a term commonly associated in Peru with the respect of the indigenous Andean cultures. Hotel Katari at Plaza de Armas, is an invitation to experience the essence of Arequipa, regarding both its colonial influence and its interesting pre-colonial history. In fact, we boast both elements of Arequipa's unique fusion of the Spanish and Andean cultures), while providing an incomparable view of its most impressive geography, all the elements for which UNESCO protects the city center as a World Heritage Site. Through its optimal location, landmark terrace, highly personalized service, luxurious historical interior design, and most exclusive facilities and services, we will ensure you will have an unparalleled stay in the White City. Katari is located at Arequipa's impressive and unique Plaza de Armas, the center point of the UNESCO World Heritage Historical Center, and directly across the Plaza from Arequipa's majestic cathedral, which is the largest and most breathtaking in Peru. You will be staying at the most desirable prime real estate in the city. It was formerly owned by several notable Arequipans, including the family of a former Peruvian President and President of the International Court of the Hague, Jose Luis Bustamante y Rivero.

I spent a few nights in this hotel on my honeymoon and absolutely loved it! The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, the rooms are beautiful designed with a vintage flare, and the location is right in the center of the city. The breakfast is buffet style on their rooftop that overlooks the city's square and cathedral (bonus: they had plenty of vegetarian options). My only complaint is that the presidential suite we got did not have a shower curtain, so water could not be contained when showering. However, the tub with jets was great and the watery mess was not a deal breaker. We would definitely return!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the main square are a bit louder but have a great view.

The hotel is best located in central Arequipa on the Plaza des Armas right accross the cathedral. Many of the most interesting places, bars and restaurants are easily walkable from this hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are nice with locally inspired decoration. We had a room with no view facing a narrow courtyard. At times it was very loud as you can hear all the guests in the other rooms facing the same courtyard. The bathroom is rather dark but has all amenities you need for a couple of days. Breakfast on the roof terrace is ok with friendly but slow sevice. Dont't miss to have a sundowner on the roof terrace! We give the hotel 4 points mainly because of its location and the roof terrace with truly stunning views of Arequipa. Without those two plus we would rate it 3 points.

Checking in was, one of the few, most pleasant and welcoming we've experienced. Thank you Angie for making us feel so much at home the moment we stepped through the front doors! Room was very clean, comfortable, spacious and well appointed. Room amenities and toiletries were more than adequate. Staff, from the concierge (thank you Victor) through to housekeeping, were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast spread was wonderful and you can't beat the view from the roof terrace whilst having your coffee and croissant. A huge thank you to Gladys and Alex for the warm hospitality you both exuded. Location is excellent. Right in Plaza De Armas and directly across from the cathedral. We would call this hotel ground '0' when in Arequipa! Oh yes.....another big thank you to Nieves who treated us like we were regulars. Kudos to the staff and management! Make sure to return to the hotel for Happy Hour drinks and enjoy the sunset. Not sure if it's a staple but we were entertained by local minstrels during happy hours for the two days we were there. It really was too bad that we only had two nights here...we would have stayed much longer at the drop of a hat but our scheduled itinerary just wouldn't permit it. Prices are in the higher end of the mid-range category but it is well worth it! Needless to say we Highly Recommend this establishment!

We stayed two times at this hotel (2 nights + 1 night), so experienced two different rooms. Our first room (#201) was quite a bit more spacious and light than the second room (#205). For the rest the rooms were well appointed and very clean, including bathroom. Beds were comfortable and the rooms did not have noise from the street but some noise from other rooms. The hotel is in a perfect, central, location, right on the Plaza de Armas, and has great views from its roof terrace. Breakfast was on the roof terrace as well and was ok with a reasonable choice of food and drink items. Service was in general pretty good, professional and helpful. We would certainly consider staying here again when next in Arequipa.

The Katari Hotel is beautiful. The hotel lobby, rooms and bathrooms are very well decorated and gives the hotel a premium feel. The staff are friendly and helpful as well. It is perfectly located right in front of Plaza De Armas and staff are very helpful at recommending places to visit. There are wonderful views from the rooftop terrace as well. The rooms are large and the beds are comfortable. Only a few negatives - despite asking for an early check in, the room was not even ready at the normal check in time and we had to wait an hour longer before our room was ready. The staff offered us free drinks and coffee as compensation for this which was much appreciated. Also the service at the rooftop is a bit slow and the breakfast could be better. But overall still a great hotel with good service from the staff.
