My girlfriend and I stayed there two nights. The location of the hostal is perfect and the staff is very helpfull and nice. But.... the toilets was dirty almost all the time and there was long and short black hairs all over in our bed.. not very nice... all in all ok. But they need to step up their cleaning-game..

El Albergue Español is ideally located in the centre of Arequipa, 2 blocks away from the main square. The white and blue paintings make the common areas and terraces very nice. Common kitchen is very small Bedroom was somewhat a bit small and not well noise isolated from the street and next rooms. The showers are solar powered so it said it is best to have a shower during the day, which we tried but still not that hot. Staff was helpful.

It’s perfectly located, with a front door that is always locked, but is always buzzed open by the receptionist very quickly. This makes it feel safe and secluded off the street. Downstairs the receptionists are fairly friendly and happy to look after your bags. Limited English as with most places we have stayed in Peru. The rooms are across several floors and are very simple but clean. I don’t think there are any ensuites but the showers are close to the rooms. There’s piping hot water via solar from 10am-5pm (and a bit beyond). You can use the showers even when you’ve checked out! We found it a great base to explore Arequipa. Thanks!

We unfortunately had the worst experience at this hostal. When we got there, the staff was friendly and place seemed clean and close enough of the plaza de Armas. We were unlucky because there was no water in all Arequipa (not hostal fault). But still after 2 overnight bus we were more than eager to shower. Told us the water would be back in an hour, than in 4 hours. Went to visit and when we came back the water was working. Where it became the hostal’s problem is that the water pressure only got to the first floor so we had to use shared bathrooms instead of our private bathroom that we obviously paid extra for. So I asked, since we didn’t use our bathroom AT ALL, that they should at least make us pay the price of private room but SHARED BATHROOM. What I thought was a normal thing to ask seemed very complicated for them and then they were giving different prices from what was actually giving at the beginning. After talking with the owner he finally agreed to the price we was told at first for shared bathrooms. Staff wasn’t so nice by then. And THEN when we got to our room we were very angry to noticed that while we were gone someone from the staff came into our room without our permission to move our stuff and lock the “non-usuable” bathroom. We told the staff that we’ve never seen that in our whole travel experience and this is unacceptable. She never apologizes and didn’t seem to understand what the problem was. We didn’t notice anything missing but what if? They would have paid to reimburse? Don’t think so!!! Anyway for us it was a one night full of problems and having to justify everything the whole time! Don’t recommend at all!

The accommodation is really nice, the hostel is in a old colonial building . Be prepare to the stairs to reach your rooms. The place is very clean as well the common bathrooms, there is no breakfast and you have just the roof top as common areas . The kitchen is very small and not super furnished so if you want to cook be prepare to have some troubles . The staff is very gentle and available but please do not go with the agency the propose you ( the Peruvian Andes ) to canyon the colca . We take the 1 night and 2 days and it was a very bad and poor experience . The food was terrible and few and the guide ( names Richard) was trying to push us to buy stuff . The last day ( when you’ll be at the oasi at the bottom of the canyon) in the night Richard scared all the group about the steep climb trying to push people to get the mule . He give us so bad energy that all the grim pup was anxious and scared even because he also said that the bus won’t wait for us . It was Avery bad time with him . Despite he’s treatment we managed to get up inn3 hours. If you can try to go by yourselves you’ll eat better and you’ll be out of the tourist traps
