After much research we decided to stay. in Sacred Valley first and then to Cusco for a couple of days prior to the Inca Trail. I did not have trouble acclimating, however there were people in our group who did not go to Sacred Valley first and had difficulty on the trail with the altitude.

We did a tour to the Sacred Valley from Cusco then we asked to be dropped off in Ollantaytambo after. But you can also book online for a taxi for USD 35, that’s was what we paid for to get back to Cusco after Machu Picchu.
