We chose the Sveta Sofia Hotel based on its location and star rating. The hotel is a maximum of 2 stars, rooms with terrible old renovations and furniture, the smell in the room is damp and old, the curtains are dirty, photos, descriptions and parameters of 4 star hotel rooms do not correspond to reality. The hotel provided a spoiled mood.

Receiption area was very dark, plenty of downlights but I guess to save power they were not turned on, not at all welcoming. Bar closed and also in darkness. Rooms just OK but air cond did not do the job so room very hot so could not sleep. Breakfast just OK too nothing like those of Germany and Austria. Walls very thin so you heard all the noise of other rooms and the hallway. Doors closed near my room made my door rattle. Claim 4 star really only 2.Not value for money and for the same price stay at the Hotel Annel just around the corner

This hotel is not a 4 star, but at most 2, the receptionist during the day speaks poor English, the morning food is nothing to write home about (lousy)
The room I was given was large but looked like a cell, 1 meter up to a window.
The location is ok, close to the metro and in a pedestrian street, close to attractions.

Liked: The location was great and central. The staff was nice and spoke English. The size of the room was fine and we would recommend Sveta Sofia hotel for the location and proximity to metro Serdika and Central Market Hall.

Disliked: Worst hotel I have ever stayed at and I have over 700,000 airline miles staying at various hotels all over the world. The bldg, room, bathroom and restaurant are a bit dated. The room and bathroom had cracks. The bathroom shower door would not close, drenching the entire floor after a shower. The noise was unbearable w/ neighbors banging around and yelling past 0200. The hotel was not full so why bunch all the guests together so we can hear every micro noise through the walls? The gym was one room w/ a treadmill that did not work and a weight machine w/ no weights. The breakfast was average and they did not refill the food items after 0900. Would rate the hotel higher but the noise and voices were truly unbearable EVERY morning and night!

Sveta Sofia is a traditional hotel in a quiet pedestrianised street in the city centre. All staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful. The receptionists speak excellent English. Rooms are big and include a settee and coffee table as well as fridge and coffee making facilities. There is constant hot water and great water pressure. The hotel is very clean, including the breakfast room. Rooms are cleaned every day, towels and sheets are spotless. Its true there is no bar or outside space but it is so near lovely roadside cafes you really dont miss out. The breakfast is varied and plenty of it - self service but you can get an espresso made by the restaurant manager. Because the hotel is in a pedestrionised street, there is zero traffic noise. In fact there is very little noise as the bars are not in this street. It also feels safe here which I think is important.
I highly recommend Sveta Sofia if you are thinking about visiting this lovely city.

Was not given the room I had booked, was told they only had one like it and it was already occupied. No kitchenette, no microwave, no mini bar, no balcony, no view, the kettle when plugged in had to stay on the floor. The Wi fi packed in on Friday night and was still down on Monday. The bed was very uncomfortable. Staff were very rude, booked a taxi to pick up at 06.30 on the Sunday as we had a trip booked, at 06.35 the reception says its not coming so we had a 25 minute walk and just made it. Made use of their shuttle service from the airport and as advertised it was 25 Euro the problem is it a private car and not a taxi. took a taxi on leaving it cost 12 Euros be careful. Also after we ordered the taxi we waited 20 minutes and asked again this time someone came. in conversation on the way to the airport the taxi driver said he came 15 mins ago but no one answered him and he left. the landline and the mobile were both ringing but the girl just sat there and did not answer either. The breakfast was very poor, they had a 2 slice toaster for the entire hotel, dirty tables and I agree with every comment made by Veroc. Air Con is very poor and noisy. It is not 4 star or even 2 star. Be very careful when booking this hotel.

I'm traveling more than 30 countries and this is the worst hotel of the history.
First time you enter you think you enter in the horror house. If you want to come back to 70s you can go inside. Very old furnitures, zero maintenance, zero interest for the confortability of the costumer.
They don't clean the room at all, don't change linen or towels. They say room will be cleaned only when we check out. When we complaint to the receptionist about this problem she was very angry at us and they don't want to clean. Finally after make scandal they clean but the cleaner lady fight with us shouting in the corridor because they don't want to clean.
The breakfast has no words. No place to sit. They don't clean the tables. Not enough cups so you need to use paper cups if you are lucky enough to have coffee or milk inside coffee machine. Forget about eat something if you are later than 0830 for breakfast. And if you ask for some food they will speak back to you very badly.
The personnel in this hotel is the worst personnel in all my travel experience.
How is possible this hotel have 4 stars? Who gave this?? This hotel is not 1 star. Unbelievable.
This is shocked experience. We have no words to explain this horrible place

I give two stars and not one solely and exclusively for the kindness of two of the three people at the reception. What is described as a four-star hotel is a small guesthouse with none of the services described on the site where I booked. No restaurant, no safe, no outlets near the bed, no fitness center, no mini bar. Existing services malfunctioning. The embarrassing breakfast. They do not change the towels even if they are wet or on the floor. The beds never made. The duvet is a short, narrow duvet. The heating system works if it works, noisy and old.

The one at the reception (Nikola) tried to trick us. First he said: he sees the booking and my name, then he claimed we have not paid, which I showed “the invoice/receipt”
On the payment. After we got the room key, he said again: there is no payment, we would pay with euros. Which I didn't and requested to speak to his boss. Then he said: the boss is out of town while he continued to say he talked to him 5 minutes ago.
Dirty room, dirty bathroom that has not cleaned at all, but I could not fight with them. Strange breakfast table, coffee machine did not work, hard old fat cheese and bread etc.
It is not 4 stars hotel, rather a dirty hostel.

Absolutely horrible hotel. Old and dirty rooms, unpleasant staff, everything in the rooms was falling apart. I also found black mold in the shower. Walls were very thin, I could not sleep because of the noise. The street, where the hotel is located, was full of drunk and homeless people, I didn't feel safe.
