Our 2 night stay must have had (+) karma from the start, as we checked in on Lunar New Year Jan. 22, 2023. Arriving about 10 AM, a Reception fellow named Reynaldo assigned us to a suite (upgrade from a junior suite) which would be ‘available in 9 minutes.’ Yes, 9 minutes, precisely. He was accurate. Rene the bellman immediately asked our first names to commit to memory; then off we went. ROOM. Room 104 with wrap-around balcony overlooked the Square with view of the Cathedral. LR, King bed, 1.5 baths and tall windows overlooking activity on the Square. Beautifully outfitted and clean. Glass shower, spa tub, and plenty of toiletries. Excellent A/C. We had no issues w/ noise despite it being 350th anniversary of city AND Lunar New Year’s… DINING AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. Reynaldo who functions as the Concierge also arranged for 2 separate 1/2 day tours by A/C car. We weren’t up to walking tours altho a charming part of the city d/t the heat and humidity. Both tours were more than VG with English-speaking drivers/guide. Lunch is Bistro was Panamanian chicken soup w/ rice on the side (!); and empanaditas. Both got us to dinnertime in the AMS Sabor Restaurant on the 4th floor. To our surprise, there again appeared Reynaldo, but in a Chef’s coat emblazoned w/ his name: R CHEN. What? Reynaldo says his real passion is for cooking, so there he was like an apparition. We enjoyed 2 dinners of his: empanadas, clams in sauce and grilled octopus; seafood pasta, panna cotta, and some delicious wines. We were blown away by the quality and creativity of his cooking, his obvious knowledge of wines and the service in this 4th floor eatery which overlooks the city. That along with their welcoming manner and generosity made this a stay we will never forget. Wish we could have stayed longer just to be at this hotel. /x…
Walk everywhere in Casco Viejo. Friendly and helpful staff. Room is small (because it's a historic hotel) but is updated superbly. Bed was very comfortable. We stayed Sat & Sun nights and there was an acoustic guitar player performing in the lobby both nights. Sunday morning breakfast had traditional Panamanian dancers too.
Location is excellent. Front desk staff very helpful. AC, Phone, TV did not work in room at the beginning. Phone was fixed, TV partially fixed. AC not fixed. Small Rooms. No luggage holders in room, Had to ask for Hair Dryer
we stayed at the hotel for our wedding weekend and i must say that every aspect of it has been exceptional. From the attention at reception, the spectacular rooms, the food and the hotel is a beauty. I have no complaints about the place or its staff. I would like to especially congratulate Reynaldo for all the attention he provided during our stay, Alfredo at the front desk who supported us at all times, Jose who so kindly took me by car to the church. for all of them a great recognition for his excellent work, all 100/10
The hotel rooms were excellent and the staff were so kind and helpful. Staying in the old city was charming. I would highly recommend this hotel. I went with a group of 7 and everyone was so pleased.
Wonderful hotel and fantastic staff! Highly recommend! Would love to come visit again soon and see more of beautiful Panama! Definitely would recommend this historic and well appointed hotel. Muchas gracias!!
This hotel is centrally located in Casco Viejo. The hotel looks historical and beautifully restored. When we checked in they offered to move us to a great room that faced into the Plaza. It’s a magical view at night with all the holiday lights! Our bathroom was also VERY large and has a shower and jacuzzi. Thank you for making our trip to Panama City more enjoyable!
I had high hopes but keep lookingif you are staying in the ares. The rooms are very small and most look into the lobby with music all day long through windows that overlook the atrium. Had to have ear plugs just to take a nap. Shower over flows and one the rooms didn't have hot water. No fans mean condensation on the tiles making this place like a sauna. Really disappointed.
This is a beautiful hotel in casco vieja. Reynaldo is the best. He hooked us up with an amazing room overlooking the square. The service is excellent and the staff is so friendly. It’s easy to walk so many places from here and also a very easy taxi from PTY!
The hotel looked really nice and had good reviews but we were really disappointed with our stay. The room seemed nice and comfy but the shower has no curtain or door and within minutes of showering the entire bathroom was flooded. Took all the towels in the room to soak up the water and make the floor less of a slipping hazard. Breakfast was also very disappointing. So yes the hotel looks lovely and the bed is comfy but the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
