Let me start off by saying I HATE to write bad reviews. I truly do. In fact, I’ve only ever written a few in my life and things have to be glaringly awful to warrant negativity about a travel experience. Secondly, the issues I bring up really have nothing to do with COVID. This place has been falling into disrepair a long time before COVID. As others have said, the staff is doing the best they can with what they’ve been given and the policies they’ve been told to put in place. I don’t fault them at all. This resort was probably a 5-star resort 10-15 years ago but not anymore. We regularly stay at 5-star resorts and this was no where near up to those standards. The exterior of the building is falling apart. Paint is falling off the building in large chunks. Tiles are coming out of the pools in big sections. The beach is covered in trash. Two of the pools needed to be shocked BADLY they were so cloudy. The outdoor furniture is falling apart and the cabanas are rotting away. One elevator has buttons that don’t work and the entire resort phone system was down forcing guests to use WhatsApp to communicate. Our room had mold growing in it, several outlets that didn’t work and dirty sheets on the bed (to their credit the staff immediately changed the sheets when notified) This resort has 6 restaurants. Only one of them was open. That wouldn’t be so bad if the food was delicious. It’s not. I’ve been known to pay up for quality food and I’ll do so gladly if it’s worth the experience. This was not. In fact, I find a lunch buffet that costs $23 per person plus the cost of your drink ridiculous when the only thing worth eating on the entire buffet is fresh fruit and a sad little salad with no protein. This is clearly an area where the company has cut corners and limited options for guests nickel and dimeing them at every turn. The quality of the room service food was worse. Again, no fault of the staff and I place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the company for setting their employees and guests up for failure. I could go on and on about the quality of the food and drinks here (and yes, it’s entirely possible to get a gross cocktail) but suffice to say we won’t be back. In fact we are leaving three days early and going to an ACTUAL 5-star hotel. Don’t get suckered like we did. Beware the Westin Playa Bonita and remember our cautionary tale.…
Read a lot about this hotel good and bad. But with lack of staff they are doing best they can! Overall our experience was excellent! With only 1 restaurant out of 5 open that was fine with us. Besides we caught taxis into town to eat a few of the days. If you are going expecting the usual Westin experience it won’t happen here. Covid really took a toll but they are trying absolute best they can. Amazing pools, beach front ( kinda rocky and rough not pearly white sand) and the view looking at all the ships lined up to enter the canal was awesome. Jesus and Joel were excellent bartenders ( would make a lot of money if they were in a Vegas casino)! Loved those guys! It was probably one of our best vacations and we will be back again!
Wonderful staff and terrific memories made here. We have been here for 5 days and it really has felt so much longer. Wonderful place to relax with the family. The staff had been wonderful. We had a terrific suite on the 16th floor overlooking the ocean. Truly lovely.
Good and clean, good attention, top option near to Panama, City. Good health compliance for the pandemic Special shout out to Nilka, she took good care of my family, and did magic although these are difficult times. Thank you Nilka
The outside of the hotel needs some maintenance but the rooms are satisfactory. Now this is the reason that I am giving it a 1. I understand that COVID is in effect but I think the resort cut cost in areas that it should have not cut cost. The food selection and hospitality was non-existent. I felt it was more like a motel than a resort. I had to go out and get something to eat every day. The pool was well maintain but felt that the "resort" allowed the local to utilize the pool area because I saw people get in their car with panama tags leave. Did not expect this from a Westin.
