The Allen House Inn, and its sister, The Amherst Inn, are gems of Amherst. The quintessential Victorian ambiance has been beautifully recreated; it is lovely with designs created by Ann, and maintained by her and her husband, Alan, who are innkeepers. I have stayed over 5 times, some nights at each inn. I have learned the interesting history and process... More

This was my second stay at the Allan House. I was greeted like family, even though I arrived quite late and was a bit stressed from a day of travel. My room was very comfy, with period furniture and an authentic feel (but modern conveniences, even a towel warmer!). Thankfully, they had AC as it was 90 degrees outside, and... More

Went to the Allen House with high expectations based on Trip Advisor reviews but were quickly disappointed. Not because we dislike old historical properties - quite the opposite. On the plus side, this is an authentic Victorian building that seems to have been little altered since the 19th century. But many things detracted from our enjoyment, including a barely functioning... More

Proprietress and staff are very kind and willing to help. Breakfast here is a must! Made to order and a great chance to chat with other guests and staff. Ann and everyone have great suggestions on where to go and what to do. They really make the charm of the hotel. That and the unlimited amount of tea! Which leads... More

Allen and Anne run two Inns, this is their second. It is further down Main Street (away from town) than the other, so if you don't have transportation, the Amherst Inn might be a better bet, especially in the winter. But, you can't loose with either choice and the walk was lovely in late July. The Inns are charming and... More

I haven’t come across a more charming and quintessentially New England town than Amherst, Massachusetts. I now understand why Emily Dickinson, possibly it’s most famous resident, decided she didn’t need to leave it to understand the world. To add to Amherst’s poetic charms is the Allen House Victorian Inn where we had an overnight reservation. The Inn is a few... More

Came to drop off our daughter to camp. The proprietress Ann and her staff were very nice; Ann has been running this inn for a long time and it shows--a lot of attention of detail in the furnishings and decor. Rooms were beautifully appointed. We stayed in the Turret room with a queen bed and daybed, and there was plenty... More

I came to town for a writing workshop and could not have had a better experience! The hotel owner was absolutely delightful, accommodating, welcoming. My room was clean, charming, well appointed, and exactly what I wanted for a relaxing weekend. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful; the home is historic and proud. I would recommend this experience to anyone... More

Lovely place to stay -- we used Amherst as our base to do a little bit exploration in the area & the Allen House was perfect. Superb hosts, gracious and accommodating. Furnishings and decoration is beautifully done in Victorian style. Loved everything about our stay.

Allen House Inn is a beautiful, historic house situated only a few minutes drive away from Amherst College. The owners are very friendly and extremely helpful with anything you might need. The breakfast is wonderful and is held in Allen House's "sister inn," only a few minutes walk up the street. The house itself is historic and it is clear... More

“Although the Queen bed we had may have been the largest bed in the house, the bathroom was created out of an expanded closet space, so had the toilet just to the right beyond the door, and the shower to the left of the door. The door opened into the bedroom. The large sink was in the bedroom just next to the bathroom door. We left a light on so we would not trip or bump into the sink or towel warmer near the door. We are both slight in physical stature, so the small bathroom did not bother us, but larger people might opt for another room with larger bathroom. We stayed in the Peach (formerly Oscar Wilde) room.
