Legend says when you can't sleep at night it's because you're in someone else's dream. At D'Leyenda Hotel, a quaint abode just off of Plaza Mayor whose rooms are named after local legends, it's more likely thundering tunes of adjacent watering holes have impeded your beauty rest. Better for the stargazer than the faint of sleep, the small but comfortable rooms are immaculate, well appointed but regrettably not soundproofed. If good location, beautiful environs & homages to local history aren't enough, bring earplugs--a lot of people will be dreaming of you.

Lovely small hotel just off the central park. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. A good breakfast which was included was served every morning on the rooftop terrace. Our room was large and comfortable but a bit dark.

At times it was noisy.

This is my second time to D'Leyenda- My first time was incredible was there on work and decided to take my wife there and was hoping the second time around would not be disappointing, and what a treat!!!! The staff there are amazing, seriously the best attitude and service you can imagine- Every shift has the most incredible and helpful staff- They go on and beyond, I will continue to stay there each and every time I travel to Antigua. They serve a continental breakfast brought to you by a smiling staff, on the roof prepared individually just for you, with plenty of fruits, bread, butter, jellies, orange juice and coffee, enjoy the morning as you look at the volcano and smile with delight and peace. And extremely safe and just around the corner from the downtown plaza, surrounded by lots of restaurants and mercados. Stay in the room with a fireplace!!!! Very romantic!!!

Firstly, I have never written a negative review regarding a stay, however, this review is well deserved.

I stayed at D'Leyenda for 2 nights in May, 2022. It is a gorgeous place, truly beautiful. The host was pleasant, and we chated over a beer (my treat). The host mentioned that there would be a party on the rooftop that evening, and that I was invited to attend it - he assured that it would end at a reasonable time.

At 5:30am, I decided to leave my room and ask them to end the party, which included several people ringing the door, musicians singing italian songs, and a bevy of ladies rushing to the rooftop for the hot tub party. I can relate the arguments and shouting (in English and Spanish), but I don't have much space here.

After 2 hours of "sleep," I pondered should I leave this lovely hotel. And as I was leaving the establishment to search for another place, the host was apologetic.
He stated that this "was a rare party', and that he would reimburse me for that evening. With his assurance, I stayed the second night, which was peaceful.

Upon leaving D'Leyenda, instead of receiving the reimbursement, I was told by the host that he "had no cash." I was then told that he would send the funds by Zelle. After returning home, and 5 emails with 2 different "managers", I have received nothing, and don't expect to at this point.

I do hope that this was a rare issue, however it did affect my stay in a gorgeous city. If you stay there, please do so with this information in mind.

This is a very nice hotel, but not as great as the ratings on trip advisor would suggest. First the good points; great staff, unbeatable location, very safe, a shower with a lot of water pressure and hot water. On the negative side; my room was a tad musty (not horrible) and a little dark. The biggest drawback was the noise from the bar next door. There is nothing that the hotel can do to control this, but it didn't make for great sleeping. I don't know why other reviewers didn't talk about this, unless they were out enjoying themselves until midnight every night.

Si, this is indeed a cute boutique hotel with a great staff close to the main square but i was a bit dissapointed for the price. The entire hotel is quaint and the rooms have a monestary feel about them with the high ceilings and lack of natural light. One of the reasons i booked was for the hot tub on the roof with the view of the city; however, this turned out to be a two person bathtub that they refill for each use that only fills up half-way (due to a drain that has been installed) so that you are sitting in luke-warm water that only covers half of your torso. Also, it is located next to a popular bar and we could hear music through the walls late into the night. Absolutely acceptable accomodations but i'm surprised it is rated #1.

The hotel is very charming and would be perfect except for the fact that it is next door to several large and noisy bars. The music is played LOUDLY until 11:30 and the bars close at 1:30. As the hotel has a courtyard, it is very difficult shut out the sound of the music and the voices of the customers.

Each room at the D'Leyenda Hotel has a name that corresponds to a local legend. Ours was El Carreton, or The Death Wagon, a ghost carriage drawn by black horses that is said to announce an imminent death.
It is the last room at the end of the very narrow courtyard of the hotel. We were taken there by a bubbly American student who called everyone "you guys" - jarring after several weeks of polite Spanish hospitality - but only after she had first installed us in the wrong room. The odd thing is that we requested a room with a fireplace at the time of booking several weeks earlier and were told that the hotel was full, except for El Carreton. In fact, except for ourselves, it was completely empty.
El Carreton has a window which opens into a storage and utility area used by staff, not to the outdoors. The room is stale, musty, and damp. I do not wish to speculate about mold, but it seems possible given the lack of airflow and the general smell. We eventually had to shut both the door and window because staff could look into the room and straight onto the bed. Sleep, however, was not possible until after 11 p.m. when the extremely noisy bar next door featuring live music quietened down.
Breakfast is served on the roof-top terrace, which is reached by a very narrow and steep spiral staircase that is difficult to climb. Breakfast consisted of rock-hard croissants, stale bread, visibly aging fruit, and American-style jam packets that you would expect to find in a diner. Service is excruciatingly slow, in spite of having pre-arranged the time at the hotel's request.
When we decided to check out instead of stay for the 4 nights we had booked, the staff first tried to impose the cancellation policy - from which they eventually backed down - and then used a completely invented exchange rate to convert the dollar prices advertised to the Quetzales actually being charged. Luckily, there was a bank right on the corner where we obtained the real exchange rate and refused to pay anything more.
The hotel's website an in-room info says that in the olden days, the way to get rid of El Carreton was to make the sign of the cross and pray. Apparently, the only way to do it in modern times is to put one's foot down.
Why this hotel is able to display Trip Advisor Travellers' Choice Awards for 3 years running is complete mystery.

It´s a charming little hotel, incredibly well located. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they will go out of their way to make you comfortable. However, if your sleep is easily disturbed by noise and light, this is not the hotel for you! The first night we stayed at "La Llorona", it was a disaster. The terraza where guests have breakfast is right above it, so at 6 am they started moving chairs and tables around and we could hear absolutely everything. We complained about it (I´m sure we were not the first ones to do so) and they moved us to "La Siguanaba", which was much better but still noisy. On top of it, morning light hits you right in the eye through some glass tiles high up on the wall, positioned in such a way that you cannot cover them. They did improvise an outside cover when we complained about that, but owners should re-think those tiles in a more definitive manner. Such a shame, but really not the hotel for light sleepers!

We stayed here for one night while traveling for a couple weeks in Guatemala. We chose it because of the excellent reviews here, but we were disappointed, especially for the price. Our room was nicely decorated, but it was dark and had no windows facing outside. Also, it was on the first floor and had french doors covered by sheer curtains that faced onto the center of the hotel, so it didn't feel very private. The location is nice, right off the plaza, and the rooftop was lovely too, but we weren't able to use the hot tub because we were never informed that it had to be booked ahead of time. The breakfast also left a lot to be desired (it wasn't even a continental breakfast -- just coffee and a small fruit plate). The worst part, however, was the noise. I am really surprised that this hasn't been mentioned more often as the blaring music from the rooftop bars next door made it impossible to sleep. In the morning, we mentioned this to the man at the desk about it, and he said that other guests have complained, but there's nothing they can do about it. The final kicker was the fact that we couldn't get hot water in the morning. We told the woman at the front desk about it and she came to investigate the problem, which was appreciated, but when she confirmed that there was, indeed, no hot water, there was nothing she could do. We took plenty of cold showers while traveling through Guatemala, but weren't expecting to do so at a boutique hotel in Antigua.

To be fair, all of this would have been completely ok if the price had been lower, but this place was expensive comparable to similar accommodations in the area and it didn't live up to the hype.

I would have given only two stars were it not for the fact that the service was truly excellent. The two women at the front desk - one of whom I believe was the owner - were extremely helpful in booking our transport to Coban the next day and in advising us on the area. If they could figure out way to improve the noise issue, and improve the breakfast, it would be 4 starts.
