Three Monkeys is an INCREDIBLE hostel, with excellent vibes, fun staff and a lot to do. Location is very comfortable, because it's far from the noisy streets but not far enough to add too much walking.
The staff takes good care of everything, the showers are excellent and HOT, the beds are comfortable with small light for every bed and a locker under each bed. The rooms are being regularly cleaned, the rooftop has an incredible view on the volcanos and beautiful sunsets, the bar has a nice chill area, the wifi works incredibly well (outside the rooms).
There's even a small room with a TV and comfortable couches.
Right outside there's a small shop for snacks and cigarettes in case you need.
For Christmas we had secret santa and everybody got drunk and we had fun. The next day we had a big family dinner. Every night different activity. If you're a backpacker and want to meet good people - come here!!!
Generally the hostel is very quiet and you can get good shut eye, never noisy music at night. During the day good music, never in too strong volume.

This was probably the number 1 hotel in town. Many years ago. The hotel is fairly large and well kept, but definitely has a dated feel to it. The bed was good, but room amenities were poor: the light in the bathroom was very dim, the safe didn't work, there was neither fridge nor water cooker in the room, and only very few power outlets. The noise isolation of the room can equally only be described as poor.

The "average" score is also applicable to the "fitness centre" and "wellness area", which are both in need of an overhaul. It was the first time in my life that I was given a towel with an identification number (at the fitness reception), not really sure why.

The breakfast was good but not great (fresh fruits, but no fresh juices or cappuccino), and the walk from the hotel to the centre is along a street so full of exhaust fumes that it is almost unbearable.

It's a very nice Resort with Great Food and Beautiful Scenery in the Mountains close to the City of Guatemala and not too far from the Many Volcano' there.
The Rooms come with a Kitchen area and a nice view outside your windows...

There are many tours we took but there were many that we didn't have Time for!

1. I arrived to the hotel around 10 am and already read previous reviews of how they want to charge for early check in but didn't expect it to be that bad!!!
First, I was told no rooms are available and I have to wait a couple hours, than after 10 minutes of waiting the receptionist called me and said they have a room available but they are charging $10 per hour of early check in.standard checking time is 3pm so he asked for additional of $50 in order to check me in at 10 am. I was very disappointed and upset to be treated this way specially after I explained him that I already paid for two nights almost $300 and that I had a red eye fly and just wanted to rest. somehow we negotiated to $30 but still feels like a rip off. Disgusting!
2. I decided to stay additional night and found a cheaper price on Expedia, they were able to match the price but refused to accommodate me with the free breakfast buffet which they give to every reservation made from their website ?! why not? what kind of a customer service is that?! I already spent $400 for free night. poor customer service.
3.WIFI DOST NOT WORK! they might pretend like it is. They give you usernames and pass codes and send technician to fix the issues but the WiFi signal is very poor. if you are planning to work from this hotel using the internet this is not the right place for you. I could barely use basic social media stuff.
4. I arrived to the hotel at 1 am one of the nights and was amazed to find out that the water didn't work. could not shower, wash hand or brush my teeth.
In general the hotel is quite and clean, but the customer service is one of the worst I ever seen. They pretend like they want to help and they are very nice in polite but its all about money. very disappointing experience.

We had a pretty lukewarm experience here at this hotel.

When we checked into our room, we can see that it's quite old/dated, but perhaps that's what people want in Antigua.
Here were some issues we had:

Safe - locked when we entered - had to specifically call the staff over to open it with their master card
Phone wasn’t working - Quick Buttons to the Front, Room service, etc all not working

The hotel was extremely dark inside, very limited lighting. I suppose it's their way of trying to be environmentally friendly?

Provided a ceramic jug that I guess filters water, though I would’ve preferred if they just gave two water bottles.

Shower Water was lukewarm at times
Or not stable (suddenly cold, suddenly hot)

The room service food is actually quite good, but there were a few things that happened which lowered my rating:
The tiramisu we ordered had gone bad, it was sour. The staff was nice enough to replace it with a different cake but we still paid extra for it (ie: the tiramisu was more expensive than the replacement cake we got)
We really liked the lasagna we ordered, but the next day it was no longer available and menu prices suddenly increased so that was rather upsetting to have the menu price change in the middle of our stay.

No outside food can be brought in, so you're stuck ordering what's offered at the hotel.

The most upsetting thing that occurred was that the night before we had to leave, our next door neighbor was extremely loud from 1:30 to 3am. They were having a party! Do hotels in Guatemala not have quiet hours? Anyways, since the hotel staff never replaced our broken phone, we had to WALK to the front desk in the middle of the night to complain about this. Although they did send someone to tell the next door neighbor to quiet down, soon afterwards they got loud again and when we called front desk again to complain, we were pretty much ignored. This was extremely frustrating to not have quiet hours at night time to rest.

Their breakfast selection was alright, though it's pretty much the same everyday so it can get pretty boring.

The only thing going for this hotel is the name and I suppose the outdoors public area decor was quite nice. Staff members are nice in that they greet you, but can be pretty useless if you actually need them for something (ie: loud neighbors).

At first glance it's a beautiful hotel but the experience it's completely horrible and gets only worst. From asking for a dry towel (which you can only get one a day) to the terrible restaurant the experience doesn't worth your time or your money. Don't come, you'll leave mad and disappointed

If you're with young kids or just want a good night sleep, DO NOT stay here! They have an outdoor event center with an event on most nights and played music you can hear from your room (as if you were at the party). When asked to be moved, they refused. Also, they don't allow you to bring any outdoor food or drinks and check your bags when you come in from a day out- they let me in bc they were gifts.

Let me start by saying this hotel is beautiful! The grounds are truly gorgeous. However I have a few concerns. First, the check in experience took quite a while which I’m not sure why that is when there were three people at the counter. I had an appointment at the spa at 6 pm and was told each treatment would take 50 minutes to an hour. To be fair, I arrived at 6:03 pm. However when I arrived there seemed to be some confusion as the employees were whispering to each other and appeared to be unsure of who was going to do what. The massage didn’t start until 6:26 and I had a facial scheduled right after. I was told the treatments were finished at 7:39 pm. Obviously this was not even at least 50 minutes per treatment. The massage was fine but the facial felt extremely rushed. I asked for it to be billed to the room but there was some reason (unsure) why they couldn’t so I had to go back to my room and get my card. I literally had just used the bathroom and grabbed my card, no sooner than 5 minutes And I’m getting a cal saying they’re waiting for my payment at the spa. Again, very rushed. Lastly, I went to the restaurant on site, again, very beautiful and had nice music playing. However, they don’t have half of the items on the menu which was very frustrating as I looked at the menu online and knew what I wanted to order. On top of that the service was terrible. I consistently had to ask the sever to come to my table, ask where’s my drink, can you bring this, etc. very poor experience overall and would not stay here again. Beautiful room though.

The room wasn’t properly cleaned. Even the bathroom was poorly cleaned. I wasn’t able to take a hot shower, because the water was cold, and the shower head was so old that the water came out with very little pressure.

Additionally, they have plans open to the general public that allows for people who are not guests to use the premises. This means that the pool area is overcrowded.

In general, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel, given the fact that it’s not cheap and you can get much better options in Antigua for the same price.

This is a review of two bedroom time share unit. Hotel grounds were beautiful but our unit (301) was not optimal. Living room did not have a window or any decoration giving it a claustrophobic feel. Bedroom windows were facing the parking lot.
The unit was clean and there was daily cleaning which was satisfactory (they don't do dishes). People at the reception, restaurant and the concierge spoke good English and were friendly. We were there in September which is the peak of the rainy season. It rained every day in the afternoon. However, mornings were very pleasant. It is not a good time of the year to climb volcanoes. However, Antigua has a ton of good restaurants and cafes.
One can walk from to hotel to the city but it is not a pleasant walk. Lots of cars, uneven sidewalks and wet. However, there is a free shuttle from the hotel to the city and back which works very well (10AM-6PM). We also used UBER which is cheap and worked well. In general this a good accommodation for 4 people. It would be too crowded for six people.
