I have been coming to Antigua very frequently over the last 7 years 15 times a year approximately, I have stayed in $8 a night Hostel to several hundred dollar a night "5 star hotels ". I have also stayed at Hotel EuroMaya and EuroMaya Suites., both have excellent location, Exceptional very friendly helpful English speaking staff, they are clean, safe include flat screens comfortable beds, breakfast included and all the usual amenities, both are pet friendly EuroMaya Suites has a large garden area and is better if you are travelling with a pet. They are both mid range price hotels, with EM Suites being more expensive. If you do choose EuroMaya Suites rooms 2,3 and 15 have the best wifi service.
I choose EuroMaya Hotel because the hot water is always on and the fast wifi reaches every room. I rated this 5 star although 4 would have been more appropriate to balance out a 1 star review I read here one reviewer complained about EM Suites not having hot water, They do have hot water and off peak if you want hot water just ask at the desk they flip a switch and by the time you get to your room the water is already on, Electricity in Antigua is very expensive and although this may seem inconvenient just asking takes care of it. The room at EuroMaya Suites are VERY large.
In short for me the amazing staff are what make the difference, they are always smiling, laughing greet you by name Helpful in any way possible. as an example this morning I flew in very early as I had contacted them my room was ready at 9 AM with no extra charge. It is beginning to get warm in Antigua so I requested a fan for my room within minutes it was delivered. I know longer scour the listings to see what is available at what price, just book the EuroMaya Hotel if you decide to extend your stay they will give you a great deal on additional nights ;). I hope this helps Antigua is a wonderful couple destination with exceptional views and steeped in history and architecture. great restaurants from for all budgets and tastes, a perfect climate almost every day is sunny and warm but because of the altitude it cools off sat night so that A/C is not required. I almost never review hotels but EuroMaya Hotel and Suitesgoes the extra distance that I thought I should thank them in some way

Stayed here (not Euro Maya Suites) for one night but would have enjoyed more nights had my itinerary allowed. The room was pleasant, the bed comfortable and included a couch/foton.. There is a big window at the front of the room and one at the rear that opened to an adjoining building. The room has an LCD TV with a variety of free channels and pay per view. The bathroom was good sized and included a hair blower; hot water was available almost instantaneously. The building has ample places to sit and relax outside any room. Tables and chairs are positioned on the walkway around the atrium which provides an open air feel. Breakfast was provided in a nice cozy little dining area but was unremarkable. Juice, coffee, breads, and cold cereal were served. With more guests cooked fare may have been provided as warming dishes were present. Don't know what compares at this room rate but was satisfied and would stay there again. The location could not be better - half block from the central park at 4a Calle Poniente No. 22 A. The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. As an added bonus a travel agent is located in the lobby. The website is www *dot* hoteleuromaya *dot* com

The hotel is located in an old colonial building about a block away from the main square, with a beautiful central garden and rooftop patio with breathtaking 360° views. The garden is a peaceful, quiet place to relax with your book or buy a beer from the fridge at the very friendly and helpful reception and just enjoy the setting.
The rooftop patio is basic, with table and umbrellas, but there is food and drink service up there, which we found was a nice spot to suntan and relax away from the crowds in the town below. Not to mention the view.
Breakfast is included, ordered from a menu, and I think they also serve dinner in the garden, but I'm not certain. There are dozens or restaurants and bars within minutes walk, as is the main square and most of this wonderful town's attractions.
It gets very busy on the weekends and religious holidays, so booking ahead is a must. As we extended our stay, we had the chance to sleep in two different rooms. Both were large and comfortable and clean, and the bathrooms were excellent. The WiFi was good everywhere, as the have multiple routers located throughout the hotel.
As I mentioned, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and offer maps of the town, as well ticket booking for any excursions or travel you might require.
All in all, we had a fantastic experience, and will be staying there any time we are in beautiful Antigua.

Nice decoration and terrace but they overcharged us when they converted the USD price in a loca currency and they pushed us to consume the difference in the hotel! The service is poor for the price you pay. They didn't give us towels for two , they don't clean the table where you are having breakfast and we also booked a van to the lake but they didn't come in the morning. The girl at the reception was really unfriendly and make us feel unwelcome. I would never come back to this place . With than money you can pay a good hostel I'm sure they will attend you better.

This hotel is operated by a group of women very close to the central plaza in Antigua. It is very clean and well staffed. The staff will make transportation shuttle arrangements to other parts of Guatemala. They were able to assist us with everything.

With the price of Hotel Euro Maya being exceedingly inexpensive, one shouldn’t expect a 5-star hotel. The hotel had good and bad points.

* Location: The hotel’s location is ideal--less than one block from Central Park, which the whole town revolves around.

* Staff: Extremely polite, helpful, accommodating, and friendly.

* Architecture: The hotel’s interior space is gorgeous, with a Spanish Colonial style, open-air courtyard and hallways.

* Rooms: The rooms are a little dreary; definitely less spectacular than the public areas. They could use some fresh paint and less shabby furnishings. The worst thing about the rooms are the truly awful travel posters dotting the walls. The posters are cheap and in shoddy frames. The place would instantly look so much better without them! The bed sheets were clean, but the bedspread needed washing (it wasn’t awful--just not as fresh as I prefer). The bed was comfortable, with a medium firm mattress. The windows and woodworking, however, were beautiful with a Spanish flair.

* Bathroom: Our bathroom was sub-par but usable. Only the hot-water handle on the sink worked, but fortunately, the hot water never got hot. The shower worked fine, though the water pressure was low. The toilet worked fine. Weirdly, there was a large window on our bathroom door, which wasn’t frosted—it did have “waviness” to it, but still, it was easy to see into the bathroom. Not great if one wants total privacy.

* Breakfast: Standard Guatemalan fare. Not great, not awful. Coffee was mediocre. Supposedly, they start serving breakfast at 7 am, but in reality, that's when the waitstaff arrives, then you have to wait for them to set up things.

* Sleep quality: Antigua has cool evenings, so an A/C isn’t needed. I did request a fan, however, and was given one. The hotel was never noisy (while we were there, anyway), so sleep was undisturbed . . . EXCEPT FOR THE ROOSTER. Seriously, a rooster was outside our window (in the backyard of the dwelling next to the hotel), and every morning, about 3 am, it would start crowing—and keep crowing, off and on, until about 6 am. (Our room was upstairs, against the back wall, right-hand side. I don’t know if the rooster was heard in other rooms.) Fortunately, after a couple days, I grew used to the rooster and it didn’t bother me.

* Bonus attraction: Make sure you check out the hotel's incredible rooftop view!

Euro Maya is a nice, small hotel, with a great location! The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and the breakfast was fine. Euro Maya has two things going for it: 1. The roof-top terrace. A great spot for breakfast and enjoying the volcano views! 2. It is 3/4 a block from the Central Park. If you are looking for a posh place that has top-of-the line sheets, towels and other services, this is not it. If you are looking for a clean, friendly, affordable place to lay your head, Euro Maya fits the bill!

Hotel is located in the UN heritage site. It is in the middle of everything ( restaurant, shops and bars). The view from the balcony is breathtaking. My only complaint is the breakfast ( a fried egg with toast and beans). I think they can do better even if the guests have to pay.

We made a reservation for the only location listed, located just off the Calle del Arco. When we arrived, a gentleman told our driver to take us to the "other" location. It was a decent location. The bathrooms were nice, breakfast was good. The best was comfortable. My frustration was that it was not the location we wanted. It was further from the center. Nor was it as charming.

I have already reviewed this hotel and EuroMaya Suites, but I read some of the other reviews and I am disturbed by some peoples attitude and expectations. I have no affiliation with either Hotel do not know the owners, but I did meet one of the owners once and she was very friendly. Somebody wrote that the rooms were the size of a broom closet where my half joking complaint about the Euro Maya Suites was it was such a long walk from the Master bedroom to the washroom as room 15 is enormous and is an actual suite with a king size bed and 60 inch flat screen for $50 US, Yes the rooms at the Euro Maya Hotel are smaller but they do charge less. to the reviewer that arrived on December 30th and complained about bait and switch, You arrived the day before New years Eve, you were lucky to get a room at all in Antigua and most hotels in Antigua double or triple there rate at Christmas time and Semana Santa that is called supply and demand..
As to negotiations they do and they suggested it after my first stay.
I travel a great deal, maybe too much I am travelling as I write this, sometimes it is not them it is you, A smile and being courteous goes a long way not just in Antigua but all over the world. In the hospitality industry it is impossible to please everybody but easy to piss everybody off. It is not an easy job and as I stated they do a great job of walking that line.
I stand by my review and next time I am in Antigua I will take a picture of the "broom closet" and post real time photos of both hotels without bias. To that reviewer who has been travelling for 45 years, maybe it is time you stopped, you can always stay home and be miserable.
