How often can one say he or she stayed inside Diocletian's Palace? This lovely hotel is built within the walls of the ancient palace. Our room (double bed and 2 twin beds) was modern, well appointed, very clean and spacious. The hotel offers parking for a fee, we were able to find free on-street parking about 15 minutes away in the new city - old Split is completely pedestrian (no cars), so plan accordingly. Our room rate included breakfast in the downstairs restaurant. The breakfast included eggs to order, yogurt, breads, cereals. We loved living in the heart of old Split. Highly recommend.

We had a superior room with terrace and that was an execellent choice with a relatively large cozy terrace in a very crowded area. The room was newly refurbished which was nice. Do not be late at the breakfast service (very nice selections !) or you will end up sitting inside . Laundry service was very affordable compared to a luxury hotel (fill the bag for 13 Euros or so). Staff was nice and attentative 24/7. Highly recommandable.

Split is an incredible city filled with Roman history and this hotel is a wonderful introduction to it. Set in a beautiful courtyard off the main square of Old Town it oozes atmosphere. You will not be disappointed by the food which is of a very high standard because of the fantastic restaurant it is affiliated with on the ground floor. It is such a joy sitting on the steps sipping wine and experiencing excellent gourmet food such as the mussels here, which were better than what we had in Belgium! It is next door to an excellent craft beer place if you are looking for draft beer. Most of all the staff seem to genuinely care here and this is why a stay here feels like staying in a house rather than hotel. We had a beautiful terrace overlooking the adjoining street. Sure, rooms can be a bit dark and the streets are noisy at night but there is sufficient insulation to be able to sleep. The Aircon is a bit rackety and loud but you get used to it and for a couple of nights the advantages outweigh the disadvantages
Being in the heart of old town is great! Beware of some of the local restaurants in the large squares as some of them are very unhygienic and you would be better off eating at the hotel restaurant. Well done Hotel Slavija and your wonderful staff for making our stay so fabulous and enjoyable.

This hotel should make more effort. Its location is excellent, integrating elements of Diocletian's Palace. It is a few minutes from the heart of the Palace and the Riva Promenade. Nearby are bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours.
However my room was like sleeping in a tent. No effective shutters or curtains meant morning sun light came streaming in. Come on, 70 euros and effective black out curtains could be installed! A similar big fail is the extremely noisy stand-alone air conditioning unit. Impossible to sleep whilst that beast is running! Again spend a bit of money on a decent modern, silent unit. There's no safe or refrigerator in the room.
I don't want to bang on but breakfast is no better than OKish. No fresh orange juice, no lovely fruit salad, nothing lovely at all.
The reception staff are not all professional or properly trained but do their best.
It's not an awful hotel but it isn't as good as it could be with a bit of effort, expenditure and TLC.

It is a 3 star hotel in a century old building that functions superbly. The staff, amazing!! You feel welcomed and well-accommodated for. They make sure, your needs are met and anticipated. You ask for a bus stop, they tell you the bus schedule. You leave eary in the morning, they ask if you have eaten breakfast. Split hospitality at its finest.. The location is perfect. Right in front of the palace with food and drinks all around you.. we got a room with terrace and it was lovely. The overall look is a mixed of rustic and modern. I maybe only nit picking, but the pillow could be fluffier and the bed less squeaky. Maybe a touch of colorful area rugs on top of brown carpet would help elevate the rooms as well. My family slept well. We stayed for 2 nights. We recommend it!

Very noisy room which noise seemed to echo from a nearby restaurant till all hours. The room was pokey so trying to fit suitcases and ourselves was a tight squeeze.
No fridge in room but outside communal to share with others.
The breakfast in the mornings was not consistent at all so trying to explain how we liked our eggs was very trying as they didn’t arrive as asked. Even the coffee varied sometimes Luke warm.

Cannot beat the location for old town visit. If you have a car they will park it outside of the car-free old town for a reasonable fee. You need to walk to location for 15 min to get your car if you need it.

Breakfast downstairs. Friendly staff. Split is full of rental apartments and rooms but you are usually on your own. There is a 24 hr staff here. And there is an elevator that most other places do not offer.

I would stay here again. Try to get the room with terrace on the first floor.

We stayed here for 4 nights during our Split visit. We had a fantastic room. It was a triple with a terrace. The terrace was wonderful for sitting out in late afternoon and evening and listening to the bustle of the city while having your own private space on the roof. The room was a good size, with kettle and fridge. The breakfast was very good. View from terrace included.

The location was very central. when first arriving in the old town we were glad for the directions and video that was sent to us from the hotel (we booked direct), otherwise we could have got lost in the narrow alleys, which is a pain with cases in tow. After the first hour we quickly worked out the rabbit warren of alleys and squares and realised that while we were in the old town, we were rarely more than 100 meters from the hotel steps.

It was a short walk down to the piers to get a ferry to the islands and a similar walk to the coach station for the airport shuttle and coaches to nearby towns.

Definitely would stay again.

The hotel is located inside the walls of the Diocletian Palace, a non-driving zone, right in the heart of Split.
It belongs to the UNESCO protected cultural heritage and it's the oldest hotel in Split so just like every place here is full of history and interesting facts, that you will make you fall in love with this city as soon as you arrive here.
This hotel has a perfect location because it's really close to the main touristic places such as beaches, river, cafes, restuurants and also to transports (ferry, train and bus).
Before coming here I looked into their website and social media and I must say that everuthing is exactly what I was expecting.
If you're looking for a place centrally located where you can easily acess all the main touristic places and have a great experience with nice and friendly staff, you should come to Slavija Hotel and enjoy your stay here :)

Overall the hotel is ok, but the noise level is very high. I understand that its in the center of the split but I have stayed in other big cities and not had this issue.
I complained about the noise on my first night and hotel staff told me to talk to the manager in the morning. Their is a pub seats moreless directly my window. The manager said that he couldnt move us to another room onour second night but could move us to the back of the building on our third night. On the third morning I asked the manger can we now move to the other room. To my surprise he then informs me that the room in the back of the building has been booked my someone else online. I was annoyed at this to say the least. He offered us another room that was one level above ours which we moved into. The noise level was nearly the same but the room was bigger than the one we stayed in the previous two nights (room 105). Another draw back of the first room was that i banged my leg twice of the bed frame because the room was very small. Also they have very noise A/C probably make the nosie outside less noticeable.

Recommedation try and dont stay in room 105 or at the front of the building if you can. Dont usually leave negative comments but i am surprised as to why this hotel has such good review.

Staff were nice and polite and the breakfast was ok (not great).
