We stayed at the Triomphe hotel Dec. 29-31, 2012. Upon check-in they demanded full payment for our two day stay (first red flag). We were tired from our overnight train from Aswan and did not go looking for another hotel. Once in the room nothing worked in the bathroom (second red flag). The clerk tried to fix but no running toilet or water in the faucets. Eventually we were moved to a different room where things worked. The doors to the balcony did not close completely so we had a lot of street noise. We paid about 30USD per night which was the most we paid for any hotel in Egypt during our 3 week stay. We would avoid this hotel in future and stay elsewhere even if we have to pay more.

I came across this place in a travel book, and I wish I hadn't. On the surface, it seemed like a fine place, but once I was settled, I realized that there was no toilet paper, no towel, no shower curtain, no hot water, and the mini shampoo bottle was half used. It was made worse by the fact that based on the booking, I was supposed to pay in local currency, but the manager insisted I pay in US dollars. I didn't have dollars, so he tried to force me to pay at a higher exchange rate. When I showed him the email saying that I was supposed to pay in local currency, he still didn't relent. It was the worst hotel experience I had traveling throughout Egypt. Don't stay here--there's too many other options to waste time at Triomphe.

During a brief trip up to Alexandria from Cairo I stayed in Triomphe Hotel. For the most part my stay was nice, the nighttime staff helped me to learn Arabic and the location is brilliant, right on the coast. But I must tell the story of my last day... check out is at 12, I'm a late sleep so I usually leave it until near check out time to leave, however at 11:15 I get a knock at the door and I'm told off by an elderly man (who I assumed was the owner) telling me to get out already, quite shocked I started to pack, shower etc, he banging my door in the shower! Say at about 11:30 and then 11:45 bang my door room again telling me it's very late and I should leave. Despite check out being 12pm noon I have no idea why he was so rude and scoffed at me as I handed in the key a few minutes before 12. I've been travelling for 10+ years and I've never encouraged such rude service anywhere, ever! Just had to tell my story. If you do stay, I just hope you don't get this super rude, grumpy old man.

I’m a frequent traveler. I’ve been to hostels all around the world, and my friends know me for being very picky and critical. Having said that;
1: I was met soon arrival by Amr, the hotel proprietor who was super friendly and decent. He showed me several different rooms and let me choose.
2: The room I chose had a 2 beds, a sink, a functioning TV, table and 2 chairs, a balcony with a side sea view, etc. Everything in the room was functioning well; lights, TV, etc.
3: Everything was extremely clean. Bed sheets, pillows, sink, wardrobe, light switches, etc. I have bronchial asthma and am allergic to the slightest dust. There wasn’t any. Even under the beds.
4: I had access to a shared bathroom that was extremely clean, and I witnessed it cleaned again every couple of hours by a janitor. I was given a clean towel, lots of toilet paper rolls, a soap, shampoo, and shower gel.
5: I had access to a simple basic kitchen that was functioning and clean.
6: The hotel was peaceful.
7: Prime location for me as I like to be close to the center hub, and prefer walking.

All in all, it was a very satisfying experience and I have recommended it to friends.
Extremely good value for my money at 10 $ a night, which I paid in local currency.

All in all, if you’re looking for a clean, safe, comfortable place to stay with a great location, and are traveling on a budget, this place is for you.
But if you’re looking for some fancy hotel, this isn’t for you.

Not a great stay. I paid for an ensuite room with a balcony and a sea view and got a rather dingy room which needed a good clean, only one sheet provided , the shower was barely a trickle and the only window opened out onto a rubbish tip, so had to remain closed. Unknown to me, the manager contacted booking.com about the reservation and was instructed to give me a refund, which he refused to do. Also, beware, the hotel is on the fifth floor and the lift rarely worked during my stay. Be prepared to carry your luggage five floors, up and down a dark, dirty stairwell.

I booked 2 nights in this hotel, as it was mentioned on lonely planet. However there were no towels or hand soap provided and the room was very dusty, without air condition. No breakfast either, only good thing is its location. Some of the staff don't speak English. With the same rates I have stayed in far better hotels in Egypt.
