Service is excellent - welcome is wonderful - staff very attentive (except reataurant). housekeeping faultless. Stayed 2 nights - rooms are fine - but you wouldn't want to be spending more than a couple of nights as size / space is limited - that said you aren't going to places like Mandalay to sit in a room. Little outside patio...

Good location, great welcome, fine old-style mansion with well-maintained garden and a small pool. Our 'Shan' room was a bit on the small side but well-appointed and comfortable. Pleasant restaurant overlooking the pool with adequate if unexceptional breakfast and satisfactory Burmese and Indian set menus. Overall a quite pleasant two-night stay.

Charming small hotel with enchanting attention to details, very friendly staff.... Problem as of January 2017 : pool and outdoor spaces( little from begin with) are basically unusable because of construction noise and smells directly next to it .... Avoid room # 103 , window less , facing a wall... Excellent Indian restaurant on premises

Although the hotel is not central the staff more than make up for it. The rooms are small but have all the amenities you might need. As the hotel is boutique the pool, spa and restaurant are all to hand. If you like Indian food this is the place for you.

This is a small boutique hotel located in the heart of Mandalay. Though this is a well located and appointed property , the rooms are way too small. They joined the beds together to make a double, which made matters worse …one had to crawl on to the bed. Everything is very cramped, with every inch of space being used....

This hotel is just to the east of the grand palace and hence well positioned for all you might wish to see. It's in a large house built with lots of teak that is very attractive. We had a ground floor room and many have complained that these rooms are small and dark. A little dark maybe but no different...

We stayed in this hotel from the 30th December 2016, to the 2nd of January 2017. It was a nice discovery. A charming boutique hotel with traditional teak furniture and decorations. High attention to details and very welcoming staff. The restaurant is specialised in Indian food. Very good, with a warm atmosphere. We also had the New Year's Eve dinner....

5 stars are not enough to describe the cozy feeling we experienced at boutique Red Canal Hotel. I wish i could rate it more. We arrived around 9 in the morning, way before the check-in time, so the hotel management first provided a good deal of advice on how to spend the time before checkin-in, then they offered a complimentary...

We had a good stay here, and the hotel worked well as a base for two packed days in Mandalay on our travels around Myanmar. The hotel is in a great central location, but that means space is at a premium meaning there are a few things the hotel lacked: natural light in many of the rooms, and a bar...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
An oasis by the landmark Red Canal in local folklore just minutes from the famed Mandalay Palace and other attractions, The Hotel by the Red Canal is a convenient sanctuary, with its lush tropical greenery and calming water features, amidst the hustle and bustle of Myanmar's cultural city. “By choosing to stay with us, we will provide you with the extra measure of quality, comfort and personal convenience that you are looking for. Being small, we are able to provide personal attention to the needs, wants, and expectations of every guest.” The boutique-style hotel is a celebration of all things Myanmar, featuring teak furniture and fixtures & fittings made from rattan, mother-of-pearl and other local materials as well as Myanmar marble lining the bathroom walls. Each of the 4 types of guestrooms or customized suites, differentiated by individual style, bears the name of the major ethnic groups in multi-cultural Myanmar and is adorned with rich traditional paraphernalia and trappings reflecting their respective cultural heritage. All Chin and Shan suites feature a balcony overlooking the swimming pool and garden green. Ground floor Chin suites enjoy a “water moat”. The Rakhine suites are spacious and ideal for the business traveler. An outdoor shower with a slate wall of cascading water is the highlight of the honeymooner Kachin suites. ... more   less
