One of the first truly boutique hotels to open on the middle of the old UNESCO quarter of Luang Prabang, it is still going very strong. I was welcomed by a nice basket of fruit. Staff was genuinely happy to see me again. Rooms are very large and decorated in a very Indochine style with a twist of modernity. A...

We had a main floor room. It was large and so was the bathroom. Both the bed and the bathtub were high so there may be a problem for persons with mobility problems. Air conditioned plus a fan. Well kept and clean. The hotel was one short block from the main street where the monks come every morning. It was...

We spent 3 nights in the Apsara in two of the balcony rooms overlooking the river. The rooms are generous in size, the Air con is great which is probably the most important thing when it's 38 degrees and humid. The staff are friendly and attentive. The breakfast is good. The location is great. The rooms are clean. We do...

You'd think from the reviews this was a great boutique hotel in Luang Prabang but compared to a lot of other hotels in the region, it really wasn't. We were so looking forward to our week's stay here, but it turned out to be one of the worst hotels we've stayed in in Asia, particularly for the price. We had...

I travel a lot in Asia and this is one of my must stay hotels. it has one thing in spades and that's that elusive thing called style. The staff are great if a trifle dotty, the rooms are comfy, the wine list is amazing and the food is great. You won't find a better place in town to hang...

The Apsara is my go to place for trips to Luang Prabang. It has a history (as opposed to the pop up colonial places built nearby in the past few years), excellent staff, and an appropriate level of comfort that's just right for LP. You're on the Nam Khaen, so you avoid a lot of the tourist noise, but you're...

We were looking forward to staying at well-recommended boutique hotel towards the end of our holiday in SE Asia. We were very disappointed - the only hotel that didn't meet expectations of the 10 hotels we stayed in over 3 weeks. We were expecting a French colonial style building on the Peninsular overlooking the Nam Khan River. So far so...

Overlooking the Nam Khan river and next to the Tamarind restaurant [qv] The Aspara was quiet, possibly a little soulless but served excellent food. We sat in the hotel on their balcony though others opted for the terrace overlooking the river. Food was very good especially a yellow squash curry and the pre-dinner snack which was river weed dried and...

This is well located hotel, quiet and with a good waterfront view. Dining can be either in the verandah, or on outdoor tables overlooking the water. The staff are very friendly. Rooms to avoid at the ones in the annexe they overlook the neighbour's electricity generator so you are not going to be able to sleep well. I was able...

Stumbled upon this restaurant on our first night in Luang Prabang. Delicious food and lovely outdoor seating. I had the duck with papaya salad and it hit the spot! My friend tried the soup and that was also tasty. Would definitely try the hotel on my next visit - it looked clean, had a nice location and they offer bike...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The first and still one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Luang Prabang, the Apsara was originally a rice warehouse situated on the banks of the Nam Khan [The quieter side of town]. The Apsara is also right in the heart of the heritage village, making it the perfect place to stay. From the comfort of its large, airy bedrooms, rated by the Washington Post as "an inch beyond decadence", it's easy to explore temples and the lanes of Luang Prabang. After which you can relax on the river terrace and enjoy the spectacular views and a refreshing Beer Laos. But that's not all, our restaurant is well known for having one of the most interesting menus in town as well as a superb wine list and the driest martinis in Laos. As Hip Hotels said "Both the restaurant and bar reflect a refined sense of taste" and who are we to argue with that. ... more   less
