A lovely "back to basics" stay a few hours up the Mekong from Luang Prabang. Recommend a 24 hour stay to unwind and immerse yourself in the local way of life. All staff are from the local village. Very pretty setting. Make sure you visit the local village and especially the school.

My wife and I stayed 1 night in March 2016. We left Luang Prabang by boat on our 3 HR trip up the Mekong River with a 30 minute stop at the Pak Ou Caves approximately 2 hrs into the journey. On arrival at Kamu lodge, the villagers run down the bank to meet and greet you. Kamu Lodge is... More

MY wife and I visited Kamu Lodge for only one night 11 Feb 2016 and thought the place was brilliant. We especially liked the guide called Lee who was the most charming man we met in our travels throughout S E Asia. Visiting the neighbouring village and seeing the way people live in a forest environment was fascinating, especially the... More

We loved staying here. Kamu Lodge is a 3 hour boat trip upriver from Luang Prabang. That, in itself, is lovely - it's another side to the mighty Mekong than you'd see in Vietnam. Olivier, the French manager, was very welcoming and our guides (sorry I forgot your names!) were very knowledgeable about the area and the local village. We... More

First let me be fair to the Lodge. We stayed here during very cold (and windy) weather. Having hauled our own luggage up difficult sandy steps we were met by one of the guides called Lee. He was the highlight of this stay, being knowledgeable, helpful and always trying to be positive. The tents are large, however the Velcro on... More

Dear Ref0, It makes us all extremely disheartened when we read the occasional review from people such as yourself that don’t seem to be aware of where they are staying. We don’t in any way try to associate ourselves with “luxury”. Our motto is one of a “Sustainable Village in Luang Prabang” – stating: "Kamu Lodge is a private eco-lodge... More

My husband and our daughters 12 and 14 stayed at Kamu lodge on new years eve this year. The accommodation was very high quality. Each tent was on a terracotta tiled cement slab with bamboo beds, mattresses and very clean white sheets. The bathroom within each tent had good water pressure and heat. Lighting at night was adequate. Screens good... More

An eco tented experience, very friendly staff and interesting activities offered. We panned for gold in the Mekong( not as easy as it looks) ploughed a rice paddy and planted rice. Our walk around the Kamu village was very interesting. I also had a Kamu massage which was amazing.

This lodge has only tents. Each is good sized with lots of zip windows and doors. There is a steep 150 foot climb over soft sand then firm sand up to the lodge lobby. Our tent was about 50 feet along another path. The tent had a thatched roof over the tent to make it cooler. There is a bathroom... More

Many of the preceding reviews describe it all. It is an alternative experience to viewing the country based in town. Very welcoming, great and tasty food and (depending on your length of stay) a brief insight into the way of life in a secluded rural community. Enjoy the sound of the jungle while lying in bed at night. The infrastructure... More

Sitting along the Mekong River, Kamu Lodge offers the unique opportunity to experience slow travel with accommodation in our spacious "African Safari" tents, each with a private balcony and thatched roofs. Activities include the chance to learn traditional crafts from the Kamu people of net fishing, gold panning and to learn with a "hands on" opportunity of rice planting and harvesting. We also offer traditional massages that complement the experience. Enjoy al fresco dining at the lodge's rustic restaurant in the middle of the rice fields. We serve Lao specialties, offering lunch, dinner and breakfast included in the package. There is also a well-stocked bar, offering a delicious selection of drinks and refreshments.
