This is a fabulous place! The bungalows are nicely decorated and have a clear Lao touch. You experience that you are in Laos. Everything is really clean and well kept. The personnel is very service minded and you really feel welcome. The garden is so beautiful and the pool area is a little oasis. We had a bungalow facing the river and we had the breakfast on the veranda with a beautiful view over the river Nam Khan.

This is a good hotel, set in beautiful shrubbery, with bungalows overlooking the Namkhan River. When it was quiet, this was very peaceful, watching the river flow, pure bliss. The problem is, there’s someone across the River, 150-200m away, who is constantly blaring music, with pulsating drums. For me, this was hugely unpleasant. For others, this might not be a big deal. Breakfast is a choice of 4 options, delivered to your room. The hotel is a 10 minute drive from the city center, and they offer 6 shuttles each day to the city, 4 shuttles back to the hotel, in the evening. They also offer complimentary shuttle service to the airport - 5 minute drive. They offer unlimited, pure water, which is great. I walked to /from the city each day. Exit left from the hotel. Then, take right turns at the next 4 options. After the 4th right, you walk 5 minutes and will see the Namkhan River, directly on the right. Then, take the first left and you will be in the middle of town. It took me 28 minutes but I am a slow walker, and use flip flops. Most people might do it in 20 minutes. It’s 1.1 mile ( 1.8 kms ). There is no hot water from the bathroom tap. The hotel charges 3% surcharge if one pays with credit card. Overall, if you are not noise sensitive as I am, you will find this property a good choice.

Everything was perfect! It started with a lift from the airport, continued with wonderful dinner and breakfasts on my private balcony and a very comfortable bed, and finished with warmth and friendliness from the staff. Kai especially was so friendly, warm and welcoming. I have no hesitation in recommending this guest house.

It was by far the best experience we have had in a guesthouse. A warm welcome, great breakfast, free shuttle to the centre. They organised trips, our laundry, showed us the pool (which is great) and genuinely took care of us. Wishing us health and happiness with a friendship bracelet at the end was such a nice touch. We genuinely wished we stayed for longer, and it made our stay in Luang Prabang very special.

Thongbay Guesthouse was the standout accommodation of our trip in SE Asia!! Everything about it was absolutely perfect - Mr Thy, Kai & the rest of the team were fantastic. The bungalows spacious, clean, comfortable with outstanding views. The gardens & pool were beautiful & the food (brek & dinner) absolutely delicious.. The best Lao Lap we tasted on our trip.. We went on to stay at a hotel for 4x the price in LP and it wasn’t a patch on Thongbay!!! We shall be back.. Thankyou xx

We had a river view bungalow and we were really looking forward to staying in a peaceful location. Although the lovely veranda did have an amazing view, we found that the place was not as peaceful as we expected. At around 5 pm each day extremely loud music came from the opposite river bank. We do not know how long it lasted, as we used the complementary transfer to the centre at 6 pm, and thankfully it was quiet when we got back. Not for long though. Most mornings the awful music started at 6:30 /7 am! It usually stopped around 9 am. The management explained that it was a local farmer and sadly they could not do anything about it. We found the bungalow quite dated, but it was comfortable and had everything we needed. The breakfast was ok and they did make an effort to cook for me the food I could eat. The gardens of the river view bungalows were stunning. The staff tried very hard to make our stay comfortable and we were given a room to use after we checked out . They helped us with the scooter hire which was a good experience and we used it to visit the amazing waterfall. The hotel provided free airport transfers.

Thongbay is consists of bungalows on the nam khan river. It is peaceful, green and delightful. Each morning your breakfast is delivered to your deck. Or to any number of delightful places to sit. By the lily pond or even the river. I will be returning to Thongbay in 4 weeks. I can't wait. It is a lovely walk to town, or you can catch the regular shuttle. Thongbay also has a pool for those warm days.

We loved our stay at Thongbay Guesthouse. Our cabin with it's attached veranda looked out onto the greenery and slow flowing Nam Khan River. What a treat it was looking out at this peaceful setting each morning while enjoying the amazing breakfast that was served here. Thi and Kai along with the rest of the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Despite being outside of the historic downtown area, Thongbay offered free shuttles in the morning and early evening which we took advantage of each day. The tuk-tuks were also an easy way to return to the guesthouse if the shuttle wasn't available. In addition to the amazing breakfasts, we also enjoyed a couple of delicious lunches and dinners here, also served on our veranda. The pool provided a welcome reprieve from the very hot temperatures we had in early April and bicycles were available to borrow. Highly recommend a stay here!

This was the best hotel experience I’ve had so far! The staff was so friendly and made me laugh and smile at every encounter. Not only were they kind, but they were beyond helpful and thoughtful. They helped us book train tickets, car transportation from other cities, and gave us a room upgrade so we wouldn’t have to be near the hot kitchen (this was in summer). I HIGHLY recommend staying here, and the hotel provides free transportation to and from the town center multiple times a day, making the Luang Prabang experience while with river views and east access to the city.
