Gorgeous bungalows by the river, great staff who were endlessly helpful and cheery, good food. We couldn't fault the place. Definitely some quirky features, but for the price and location it was phenomenal.

I can't say I noticed sport fishing in LP, and I really doubt Thongbay caters to it, but there was guided fishing in Muang Ngoi, a day trip by minivan and boat up the Nam Ou river. You would need two nights in Muang Ngoi to fish it. And it's a great trip into the hills of Laos.
