Le bougainvillier is located in the heart of luang prabang, in the very lively neighborhood of ban pakhan where the morning market brings all the local crowd together. Nestled within a 600 m2 garden, le bougainvillier is composed of two lao style houses. The coconut trees, banana trees and the bougainvillaea bushes create a peaceful atmosphere in the middle of the peninsula activity center. The French and Lao management team proposes to her hosts... ... help to select what and how to discover Luang Prabang and its UNESCO riches ...a tasteful and copious breakfast ...for french speaking guests, a selection of around a hundred of books about Laos , more than two hundred comics, graphic novels and travel diaries to be read while contempling the Mont Phousi floating in the night.

This is a lovely place, full of character with a nice dark wood finish, lots of books, a pleasant garden for sitting in and clean throughout. The very friendly owner who seems to switch between different languages effortless, was extremely helpful. She made arrangements for us to get to Kuang Si falls and the airport, all very efficiently and with clear prices. She even got up early on our final morning to ensure everything went to plan with the latter and provided a superb breakfast box. The hotel occupies a good position, right next to the morning market and close to the night market, various street food stalls and other key attractions. We were warned there may be early morning noise from the market but despite being in a room close to this, it didn't effect us. Our room was medium-sized and - again - full of character with some nice finishing touches. The shower was reasonable but only properly hot on lower flow levels. There was no safe (but I think some other rooms may have them). The only birds I saw in the garden were Sooty-headed Bulbul and Tree Sparrow. Breakfast was a wonderful spread of delicious fruit yogurt, an interesting sago dish with vegetables, fresh baguettes, freshly cooked eggs and filter coffee; all served on a sunny terrace. Nearby, cold drinking water is available to help yourself throughout the day. Recommended!

Perfect. In the middle of everything, but not too noisy. The morning market is directly outside the front of the property, and the night market is about one block away. Amazing breakfasts to give you plenty of energy for the day. Great service, great location, great everything.

As others have said, a gracious host, comfortable and quiet accommodation, good wi-fi in rooms, close to produce and food markets, safe and clean. Just to sit over a coffee and watch the passing parade along the adjacent morning street market is a pleasant way to pass the time. Valerie and her wonderful staff ensure that your stay in Luang Prabang will be a delight. Duck in to the next door 'soup kitchen' for a bowl of noodle soup to start your day as an added bonus (not too spicy at all).

First of all, This place was one of my favorite lodgings of all time. It was so quiet, the grounds were manicured, with lights to the back lodge. The staff seemed to love Valerie, and respect her. She is very helpful and runs a wonderful place. The breakfast is right on the morning market..Served with the most beautiful presentation, and choices. The rombutan are cut in half, with the soft part showing, and other fruits on a small rectangular plate. The whole breakfast was a treat to the palate and the eyes...I am a chef, and i really enjoyed the different parts of this breakfast. Just served behind the fence, with just a hint of the market, which is lovely. The rooms are very tasteful, beautiful wood floors, the towels are soft and big, the shower is huge..and all the windows frame some wonderful view. And Valerie...so FRENCH..at night coming home, she is this wistful, tall, thin beautiful woman, always in a dress and reminded me of Meryl Streep in Out of Africa. I would come back here in a heart beat. Thank you Valerie for the fabulous stay.

Lovely accommodation in french style colonial building located right near the morning markets, around the corner from night markets and near the old town and few minutes walk to the Mekong. Lovely French owner and delightful staff. Very helpful with local sights and information. Lovely clean rooms which were located at the back of the property so was very quiet. Highly recommended.

Great villas. We very much appreciated the breakfasts just next to the morning Market. Fantastic atmosphere. We also had the opportunity to take French comics for our evenings and the kids loved it. Well done for the garden, the welcome and all your advices.

I had a lovely stay of four nights during my sojourn in Luang Prabang. I had originally booked three nights and had decided to add an another night, so the hotel was nice enough to let me stay in a different room the first night at the same rate. It was during the annual Festival of Lights there, so all the other rooms were already booked. The proprietor, Valerie, accommodated all my needs and even let me keep my bags in a spare room in the front part of hotel and take a shower before my late flight to Hanoi. Laundry was ready in less than three hours, when I told her that I would need it early enough to repack my bag that day. She arranged motorbike rentals at a fair price and also gave good recommendations for a massage. The room I had was upstairs in the back of the property. It was very quiet (as I had requested) and had good room-darkening shades. I liked the red towels even, 'twas a nice touch. The bed was firm but comfortable. I just wish they had flatter, more comfortable pillows. I also respected and appreciated the no shoes policy for the rooms and main house. I do the same in the States. Perhaps they could provide some cheap room slippers though, although I had brought my own from my hotel in Hong Kong. Anyway, I can't say enough good things about this hotel and the most impressive part was the meticulous attention to detail that I noticed all around the grounds. Oh, and the breakfast was amazing each day: French-press coffee, eggs to order, fresh bread, a different fruit smoothie each day, juice, mixed fruit, yogurt and a tapioca-like dish. It was a great way to start the day and when the weather is nice you eat the meal outside with the morning market right in front. Compliments to the owner and all the staff and thank you for my best stay while in Laos. I will definitely come back if and when I return to Laos!

Le Bouganvillier is a charming B&B nestled within the heart of Luang Prabang, when you wake up to the bustling morning market outside. Owner is a gentle French lady by the name of Valerie and she is meticulous to the slightest details in ensuring her guests have a good stay. It's definitely reassuring to see her running the guesthouse early in the morning and when I get back to the guesthouse in the evening at 9pm. Rooms are basic, but beds are really comfortable and of good quality. The breakfast is a pleasant surprise as I never expected such a huge spread with the price I pay. Definitely will come back if I am back in Luang Prabang! Highly recommended!

I stayed at 3 different hotels during my extended stay in LP and they were all good in different ways. Le Bougainvillier's best point is it's location, right next to the morning market and 5 minutes from the eating street. Still, LP is a small town and visitors will likely be happy location wise wherever they stay. Rooms are pretty basic; I had the least expensive category and it was perfectly adequate. It was clean, there were lovely towels, the shower had hot water and I slept well. My room had 2 twin beds : not sure if they have large beds at that price point (request it and see, if that's what you want!). Breakfast was good, especially the French press coffee, but was basically the same every day which could get boring if your stay is a long one. It's easy and cheap to buy food in the market however (& thatcoffee was the best of the 3 hotels where I stayed!). Internet was very good too, which isn't always the case in LP. There is a safety box but no TV. So in summary: not fancy but not expensive, well located and a good choice right in the thick of the action, in LP

Le Bougainvillier is a lovely guesthouse with a beautiful garden. The room was pretty basic but comfortable (the bed is really hard, which is common in this part of the world, but it was fine). The air conditioning was strong and the room cooled off quickly. There were several mosquitoes and ants in the room, but it's to be expected in a tropical environment, and the electric mosquito repellent device seemed to work - we didn't get any mosquito bites and I usually get tons! I would suggest, though, that mosquito nets might be a nice addition. The breakfast was great, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is also fantastic, with the morning market right outside and an easy walk to many markets and attractions. For the price, it's a great choice. Unless you're spending hundreds a night for luxury accommodations, you can't do much better in Luang Prabang, which is a wonderful place to visit.
