ZiQoo Hotel Apartments Dubai

ZiQoo Hotel Apartments Dubai

We stayed close to The Gardens Metro station and Batutu Mall in a self-catering hotel apartment for 11 days. See the hotel name on photos. The bed is typical to Japanese standard, and it is a bit hard if you prefer a softer mattress. Washing machine/tumble drier combo bonus. Daily serviced apartment.VIVO Supermarket nearby and stocket all needed groceries at reasonable price. Easy walk to the metro and reasonable priced Batutu mall with lots to shop and eat at restaurants within the mall.

I stayed in this hotel for about 28 days for a Project based on Jebel Ali. I would say if you are looking for a good sleep after a night shift then this hotel would be an ideal location due to the dark curtains etc. Hotel has got all amenities and got basement parking also. Internet connection is good and it won't let you down. Got washing machine / Microwave / Iron box / Cooking range / and some necessary utensils. Lot of restaurants and supermarkets nearby so you won't get disappointed.

Moved to ZiQoo from the adjacent Grand Midwest Express hotel (see my review of that unsatisfactory experience).

Though the ZiQoo Apartments are in an identical building, the ambience and feel could not be more different - in this case significantly better and calming. A lovely aquarium in the foyer with the sound of running water. Attentive front desk personnel and housekeeping staff who run to open doors, press the lift buttons, ask if they can help with your bags. Almost embarrassing for someone from Britain where service comes grudgingly if at all!

The apartment furnishings are excellent - a mini chaise longue in my deluxe studio, a beautiful large tripod leg lamp, plenty of socket outlets and extension leads, a really nice halogen desk lamp and of course that wonderful firm but stylish bed - with lights underneath - nice touch!

Kitchen has everything I needed making my purchases needed at the previous place redundant. Out on the balcony, there are two wooden chairs and a table, there is a vacumn cleaner and iron. A storage storage storage! A lovely desk with lots of drawers. The bathroom is functional - it is not some Bauhaus stand up shower but it is functional clean and with a good powerful shower.

Where there have been small problems - someone had clearly burnt their clothing with the apartment iron - that was replaced in five minutes, cleaning and fresh towels most days and when I forget to do my wahing up, it gets done for me - again makes me feel lazy!!

Internet connection is cabled but it is pretty fast (the whole of Dubai seems to have slow Internet compared to UK) but cable in my view is better that a weak WiFi signal which is often the case on higher floors in a building like this.

I have already mentioned excellent service - the car parking area below is free and ZiQoo have a reserved area. You get a notice if you fail to display your parking authorisation card. The other night I got a call to say that my rental car interior lights had been left on and they were worried the battery would run down - that's service.

Con's? I am struggling - there's one Muzak track with crazed trumpeting that opos up at night but that has been attended to, and something beyond the hotel's control is the traffic in the morning exiting the Discovery Gardens area - due to what seems to be totally inept traffic engineering and planning, there can be long queues to get into the one lane out of the place on weekday mornings. Similar problems can arise on the way back - but my tip is - southbound on Sheikh Zayed Road, take Discovery Gdns turn off, get into left hand lane as you cross on flyover, then after first lights, get into right hand land before left turn for ZiQoo, then don't join the inevitabel queue in left hand lane, stay in left hand straight ahead lane and when lights go green turn left from straight ahead lane. Perfectly legal and could save you 10 mins getting back here if you are driving.

Other tips for British travellers, there's a nice if expensive Waitrose in Marina Mall less than 10 minutes away across Sheikh Zayed Road - great bread and other home comforts - free parking too (at the time of writing - Feb 2010).

Been here a month already and about to extend for another. Highly recommended if you don't need to be in central Dubai and are working in Marina, Jebel Ali or Jumeirah Lake Towers areas of Dubai i.e on road to Abu Dhabi before Jebel Ali.

I read reviews about Ziqoo before I booked but my fiancée told me that everyone always has a different opinion, the hotel is nice very quite and private , my check in was super last night ,the ladies were wonderful and very helpful upon check in we did joke a lot , the room is very spacious it is more than I bargained for, being a Japanese theme the room doesn't have much inside and everything is well placed, though some of the items and furniture have been overused, the facility will need refurbishment at some point.

2 negative points, the room and corridor had a horrible smell, I had to ask the housekeeping to come spray the room, it is a crazy stench, upon check out I had to run to the elevator just to avoid the smell on the 3rd floor. secondly I arrived before my fiancée as she was out with her friend so when I went to pick her up we passed by the reception to have her ID scanned, then the gentleman made a copy and noted on the copy "VISITOR" and placed it right at the desk and a gentleman was also being served at the same time, she took offence as the word visitor in hotels means something different I guess you understand what I am talking about. guest ID ,Passport and details are confidential and should not be in view of other clients. but the negatives did not ruin our stay that is why I still rate you as excellent. we will return very soon

Dear Nocholas, Thank you for sharing your feedback! Comments like yours are always valuable to us as it is a stepping stone to our further improvement. I am glad to learn that you have enjoyed your stay and I sincerely apologize for the passport situation for your fiancee. Indeed, it is not our standard nor hotel protocol and this matter have been taken up with the head of department concern and I would like to ensure you that It won't repeat itself again. On the other hand, I would always recommend to mention at the check in that you will be 2 guests staying with us and in this case the reception will be able to classify the joiner as the second guest instead of visitor. On behalf of the entire Team, we would like to thank you for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to Dubai. Best regards, Mohamed Sedky General Manager

The main problem we face in this hotel, there was no proper TV channels. I did a terrible mistake to stay in this hotel for my work cum holyday. The management least bothered to fix channel issues.
I have informed all of my colleagues not to book here since we are all from media(adv) industries & very much related to TV channels.
We are ok with other facilities .......location is vey convenient for us.

My opinion is to give some priority for this kind of facilities.

Just stayed here for a business trip and was most amazed at how great the place was. I chose the hotel due to it's proximity to our office in Jebil Ali. From check in onwards the service was great with all the staff being very attentive to our needs and questions. The layout of the room was great and ideal for business people like myself. The area around the hotel has a lot of local restaurants so the evening meals were easy. The housekeepers did an excellent job and we will definitely be coming back

I wish there was a way I could give this place 4.5 stars, but since I can't, it has to be 4 stars.

Firstly, the location really is far out of Dubai, even more so than you are prepared for. I thought I knew when booking :-) But two things help - taxis really are not that expensive relative to Western countries and metro comes fairly close to the Ibn Battuta Mall and then there are buses to Discovery Gardens where this hotel is based or a cheap taxi. An old friend, now in Dubai told me that most of the exec apartments and expat temp residences are in this area. Seems right as there are a lot of gardens etc in this area.

In the hotel, the staff were polite but not all we met were Japanese (like one of the previous responses to a review here suggested), I could tell by the names. In fact of the ones I saw only one name was Japanese, but no matter, they were all polite and gave service with a smile. I think it was Vanessa who helped us the most (hope I got the name right).

Anyway, didn't get a chance to try our minimal conversational Japanese picked up on holiday :-)

From the outside it looks like any building in its locality - pink from outside. Inside though it is serene, calm, minimalistic - very Japanese/oriental. I deliberately picked this one after our Japanese holiday earlier that year. Apart from a small lingering smell that hung in the air and stayed throughout our stay when we exited the lift on our floor, everything was clean and pristine, especially our rooms.

The rooms were amazing from inside - large living room, huge bedroom with the biggest bed we have ever seen. Two adults and two children slept on with ease it with room to fit more if needed! There was a cloakroom (WC) and a full bathroom as well, very handy. Kitchen was small but well equipped with grill toaster, microwave, fridge, cutlery and china etc.

There is air con/heating/climate control available which must be compulsory in summer. We went in December when it was pleasant. Sliding doors and two balconies, but it is next to a road/roundabout, so not best to leave it open.

There are a couple of restaurants nearby - Saravanaa Bhavan being one, South Indian, very cheap. Shops also nearby to buy groceries, baked goods etc, a pharmacy too.

On Friday buses run only after noon so we took a cab to Atlantis, very reasonable as it is on this side of town. Other days we took a bus or cab to Metro station and 30-40 mins into centre of Dubai.

This place though needs a restaurant or breakfast inhouse as an option when you don't want to eat out or make something. It would be great if it were Japanese to stay with the theme.

You can walk to Ibn Battuta mall for various foods and huge shopping choice, it looks just opposite, but the entrance is a good 15 minute walk away, which is not a good idea in a burning sun. We tried the hot air balloon ride (tethered), good value for kids.

Apart from a spa (more like a soaking pool Japanese style) which is quite strangely either all-male or all-female on certain full days (which means my wife missed out after we got into the mood of trying it - it was all male till we left) there is nothing else. Well, there is a massage chair (free) but it is either too soft or on a higher setting (all buttons Japanese) was bone-crunching hard! The spa should alternate male-female or have time slots for male-female use.

The room did have wired internet I seem to remember. No wifi though.

I did ask for Sarah Yamada for a courtesy hello having seen reviews and her responses here but was just told (slightly curtly I thought) that she wasn't available. Ah well.

All in all though, I would still stay here again and would recommend this as the price was very reasonable.

Dear globetrottheworld, Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. I am delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you found the rooms amazing. I am sorry that you didn’t get to use your Japanese language as much as you had wished. We do have a number of guests coming to talk directly to our Japanese staff and we would have been happy to accommodate you. During your stay we actually had 10 Japanese nationals working at the hotel in all departments. Currently, that has been reduced to 7 nationals and 4 non nationals who speak Japanese. Due to UAE laws we are required to set ladies and gentleman’s days for the Japanese bath. I do hope that your wife will be able to try it on her next visit. Thank you for your comments about the massage chair. Although, you mentioned it had only Japanese buttons we could only find the English ones, however we have now included a short explanation manual for our future users. We do hope that we will have the opportunity to serve you again at ZiQoo.

Located in the outskirts of Dubai, in a quiet green area, Ziqoo is at 12 minutes walking distance from the Ibn Battutah Shopping Mall and 17 minutes from the Ibn Batuttah Metro Station.

My room (a studio deluxe room) was very spacious, with quality classy furniture, great hard bed, beautiful colours and atmosphere, with a fully equipped kitchen (huge fridge, washing machine/dryer, rice cooker, toaster, microwave, electric stove, and basic kitchen and cooking utensils), a huge LCD TV with a good selection of international and local channels, and even a charming balcony with a table and chair. The common areas, as well as the room, are extremely clean and tidy, and the corridors have a classy decoration and the floors shine like a mirror. I found the area very quiet at night despite the existence of a small mosque nearby.

The staff (reception desk, maintenance and cleaners) are very polite, sweet and hardworking people. My especial thanks to Lorraine Rodriguez, who was extremely helpful during my arrival and stay at the hotel.

There is a big supermarket (Geant) at the Tunisia section of the Mall, so you can buy anything you want there. For an emergency you have an Indian convenience store next door and a few restaurants and other services in the neighbourhood.

Despite what the hotel’s website an different booking sites mention, there is no tour desk at the hotel, and the person at the reception desk takes care of booking tours with just one company, and gives you some maps, general info, and the Big Bus brochures; if you need extra info or booking with other companies they tell you politely to do the booking and call yourself.

The distance to the city centre might be a problem if you want to be close to the main Dubai sights, if you have mobility problems, or you carry a lot of luggage from the metro, as you have to walk 17 minutes to-from the metro station (you also need to know the fire exits to go through the mall if you need to catch a train before 10am, as the main exits to the MS are closed before that time). Just to give you an idea, going to the Dubai Mall takes about 30 minutes from the IBMS, whereas Deira City and the old Dubai area are at about 45-50 minutes from the IBMS, plus the walking distance to-from the station.

The Internet is LAN and good speed but a bit expensive for Western standards unless you pay for a 24 hour voucher; log out from your session or you will lose the remaining credit. You might need to refresh your cookies often to allow the hotel´s system program to operate.

There were just two power points in my room, and both of them had a switchboard connected, so the points are overcrowded if you need to use 2-3 gadgets/devices. There was just one power point in the bathroom, and that only for shavers. If you are a woman, you have to do your hair in the room; the lighting of the bathroom is poor and I would suggest a small lightened mirror for women.

No dish-washing liquid sachet provided in the kitchen, and that is the first time in an apartment hotel that happens to me. I had to buy a whole bottle for my 9 day visit.

The ceiling lights went off during my first day there, because of the fuses, and the handyman who fixed the problem (a very sweet and efficient guy) requested me not to use many lights at the same time, but I was using minimal lights and the aircon was off.

The number of wardrobes is humongous, but there was not a specific space to keep a big suitcase in there.

You’ll need to book your breakfast in advance because, if you decide to have it on arrival, it will be impossible.

You’ll be charged for an early checking even if the hotel is not full, or at least that was my case.

The service was poor despite the courtesy and hard work of the staff.

MY RECOMMENDATION
If you want a quiet location, a place located near the Metro and a shopping mall, good quality rooms and quietness for a business trip, this is your place. I would go for a one-bedroom apartment if I had to visit again, but the studios are great if you are on a budget and still want plenty of room and a fully equipped kitchen. The hotel is outside Dubai, therefore, if you go on holidays, make sure that you book your tours and pick-ups in advance. That will save you a big headache as the local companies I tried do not work according to Western standards. The metro is great and reliable and will take you anywhere for a small fee; the walk to-from the hotel is very nice and quiet and you will enjoy that if you like walking. I would certainly recommend the hotel for business/work related stays, or for independent travellers who have at least 5 days at Dubai.

Dear Spaussiesh Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am happy to read that our staff was hard working and served you well but do please accept my apologies for the lack of tour information that was extended to you during your stay with us. We are already working on this area to improve the current offering. I am also sorry that the bell boy didn’t explain that our beds are designed so that you can slip your suitcase underneath. It would have given you more space inside your room. Thank you for your suggestion regarding the mirror, that is something we will definitely be looking into. We do hope that we will have the opportunity to serve you again at ZiQoo.
