A most romantic and fascinating location on the canal. The hotel restaurant is close, inexpensive, and has a variety of dishes. The staff are helpful, rooms have heaters, and plenty of light. Rooms are a bit older and not as high quality as the photos, but they look basically the same, with nice bathrooms, and are spacious.

If you truly want to experience the atmosphere of Suzhou, the channel and garden city, Royal Garden Inn is the place to stay. It is located right on a channel in the most idyllic area of Suzhou. At Royal Garden Inn, you are in the middle of it all. When you step out of the hotel door, you are on...

Nice hotel, very hard to find (print a map), good for one day. Close to the old district quite nice to be in, in fact the only place to be in Suzhou. You can walk the canal district from the hotel. the staff was helpful with there limited English.

The entrance is not visible from the street, but taxi drivers will indicate how to get there, since it faces the Shantang Seven Mile canal in the midst of a wonderful dining and shopping area of pedestrian streets (but watch out for 2-and-3-wheeled vehicles!). Go under the bridge to the north and you're in the middle of a really interesting,...

We arrived early morning and were offered a small room. As we had paid for the feature room, we opted to wait for it to become available. However, we were disappointed the room we were eventually given did not have a balcony as described. Apparently only some of the second floor canal view rooms have balconies. The view had to...

The biggest selling point of this hotel is the location, large rooms look right onto the canal with beautiful bridges in both directions. The rooms were also modern and clean. And all of this for a very reasonable cost, I would definitely recommend it, especially if you want to b around the area when it is empty. The main downside...

Being one of the hottest attractions in Suzhou, Shantang Seven Mile Street is congested with travellers every minute, from 9:00 to 22:00. Therefore I chose to live right in the middle of the area so that I can stroll along the street quietly during late night and early in the morning to enjoy the real transquility and original taste of...

Really nice place located next to the river and the Shantang seven mile street. The rooms on the second floor are the nicest, comfortable beds, really nice bright room, awesome shower and nice bathroom. The hallway is really 80's and it doesn't have an elevator, but the rooms are super nice. Cons: only one guy from the recption speaks English,...

Reading all of the reviews on this property, I can understand the range of experience. As an expat living in China, I have stayed in too many Chinese hotels...this one is not bad; in fact, it is pretty good for China. The eight or ten rooms that overlook the canal are by far the most desirable and definitely worth the...

I will take away two strong memories from our stay at this hotel – the lovely setting on the side of the canal and the overpowering smell of drains in the rooms. We booked 4 nights and on arrival were delighted at the situation fronting right onto the very attactive canalside, one of the best sights in Suzhou. The first...

“Take the river view, even though it may cost 50% more.”

“Its incredibly cheap. £120 for 3 nights for two people in Riverview Room with Balcony! Son had back room (still a twin) for £60 for 3 nights. No view at all. Still an amazing experience. And would strongly recommend. But dont expect luxury. It probably is for the area and it does smell a bit. and carpets a bit dirty. But still wonderful!”
