We absolutely loved our stay here, and we would go back as the experience was great. The location is great! The costumer service is fantastic, everyone was so nice and helpful. Always giving us great advise, and recommendations for places to visit, and things to eat. They were all super attentive, and they have 24/7 front desk support.

Location: The hotel is located inside the walled city, on the Centro Historico. Steps away from the Torre del Reloj. It's actually walking distance to everything, including Getsemani (at least it was for us, and we were there with my mother). You can find great restaurants, discos, icecream stores, shopping and pretty much anything around it. However, please be aware that with it's centric location you will also see and hear a lot of movement around it, so if you are a light sleeper, take notice. It did not affect us at all, as we are deep sleepers, so the centric location was great for us!

The reception: When you get to the hotel, they welcome you with a complimentary drink, which was very delicious. The place feels as if you had stepped through a time portal, and went back to the colonial times. So cool. They offer free coffee, books that you can borrow, and some binders with recommended tours and attractions. The front desk ladies that were in when we first got there, were supper attentive, and made the check-in process a super easy experience.

Room: We stayed in the room called La Republica, and it is a beautiful room. It has a balcony to the main street full of flowers, a living room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The bedroom on the main floor of the suite offers a little more privacy as it has a door, however, we believe this is the secondary room, as the bed is smaller than the king size bed that you can find on the second floor. The bathroom here is slightly bigger than the one found on the second floor, however, please keep in mind that they are on the smaller size. The AC can be set at a lower temperature here as well, as the room can be closed off and has it's own AC unit.
To get to the second floor, you will need to use the spiral staircase. The bed on the second floor is huge, and you can find the hair dryer there as well. The bathroom is smaller than the one on the first floor. The AC for this room is shared with the rest of the unit, so it can get a little hotter than expected. It is still nowhere near as hot as it gets outside (yes, Cartagena is VERY hot).
Note: Because there is a balcony to the main street, the suite can get loud at night, however it has extra wooden doors that you can close on top of the glass doors, and that will help with the noise.

Extras: The hotel offers free breakfast. We ate the breakfast at the hotel everyday, as the food was delicious. Things to know, the juice comes from very interesting fruits, my husband loved them, but I was not into them. They mostly change the juice per day. The bowls with fruits were very good, the fruit served is very fresh.
There's a small pool on the second floor, same floor as the room we were staying in. It's very cute, but it is small. The water stays pretty warm as the weather in Cartagena is super hot. I loved it.
There's a jacuzzi on the rooftop, you need to ask the front desk before using it, but it's beautiful up there. However, you do need to go up a more difficult spiral staircase than the one in the room. It was an adventure for me, but my husband and my mother did not find it difficult.
The bedroom has a small fridge with water, beers, sodas and cold wine. These cost extra, but they are there in case you need it. We found the prices to be ok, but you can still find better prices on supermarkets or drugstores.

Overall, we loved the place, we loved the staff, and we would go back as it was an awesome experience.

Alfiz Boutique Hotel-
Feb 18-22, 2020
We stayed at this fantastic boutique hotel for 5 days while attending a family wedding in Cartagena. Our extended family had 4 rooms booked with some family members actually staying for 10 days at this hotel

Pablo Palacio, Front Office Manager, and his staff were fantastic in assisting us with our reservations and were also available to take care of all our needs during our stay. I can’t say enough about how well we were treated and we felt very special during our time at this hotel. Pablo also arranged transportation and gave us lots of advice regarding local sights and restaurants in the area.

The rooms at this hotel are first-class and each room is decorated in a different theme which is very unique. So much fun to stay in these rooms. The pool is small but still a great place to soak your tired feet and body after a day exploring the local sights and food. The hotel provides breakfast with the room reservation and the food was fantastic with a menu that offers many choices. Great cooks. Loved the food.
Security at the hotel was well appreciated as only guests were allowed into the facility with room keys left at the front desk. This was really appreciated
We had a small issue with our room air conditioner one night and Pablo and his crew addressed the problem the next morning, without hesitation. We could not have asked for or received better service.

Would I stay here again? Personally I would never look anywhere else if I come back to Cartagena. The hotel is close to all local attractions in the “old walled city” and easily accessible to other city attractions and the airport.
Many thanks to Pablo and his super efficient staff for making our stay so enjoyable and so memorable. We hope to return one day and stay here again.

This hotel is a real gem, located in a quite street near the Cathedral and very central within the Walled City. It amused us to be given the room Pirates because we used to live a couple of miles from El Pirate Francis Drake’s House in UK and visited it regularly! The rooms are uniquely decorated in traditional style and very comfortable and quiet. The open bathroom at the end of the bedroom was quirky but convenient.

We had a warm and friendly welcome and immediately felt at home in this oasis of calm in a hectic city. The small pool and many sitting areas throughout the hotel were much appreciated. We were also grateful for the facility for topping up water bottles.

Breakfast was superb with a good selection of fresh juices, coffee, fruit, bread and a choice of eggs (and arepa and pantalones).
The staff were always on hand to give useful advice on restaurants to help with travel arrangements and to open the front door on our return. Our special thanks to Pablo, Valeria, Jenefer and the rest of the staff for contributing to a most enjoyable stay. Unfortunately we only stayed for 3 nights, next time we visit Cartagena we’ll be there for longer!

What a coincidence about Drake and the Pirates room, and your closeness to his house! The idea of the rooms is just this, to help our guests to connect with the amazing history of Cartagena and invite them to discover it! Thank you for staying with us and hopefully you can stay longer next time!!

The Old Town is about hustle, bustle, heat, humidity and more hustle. Right in the middle of it all, moments away from all the sights, is a wonderful little oasis that offers tranquility and old world service with the most modern of comforts. We found it a perfect base for our stay in Cartagena.
It’s a 300-year old colonial house, with very generously proportioned bedrooms. Our room was called the Viceroyalty and had a four poster bed (minus canopy), a balcony, and a fine bathroom with enormous sunken bath and shower.
Breakfasts were of very high quality, freshly prepared to order, with local fruits, a wide choice of egg dishes and excellent breads, juices and coffee. There is a library area to relax in and enjoy complimentary coffee. There is a small pool and a jacuzzi.
Best of all, as mentioned in other reviews, the staff are simply wonderful, always keen to offer any assistance or advice.
While it’s not cheap, we felt it gave very good value for money.

Thank you for a so complete review of your stay. The essence of Alfiz is exactly what you mention, to be an oasis in the walled city for guests that like a historical ambiance, with a lot of character, in some way culture lovers, so once again we are happy that you found a calm place in Cartagena's hustle and bustle!

I can’t say enough about this magical hotel! It is quaint, charming, and in the absolute best location to explore the city. As a solo traveler during Thanksgiving, I felt like the staff was welcoming and caring, offering a personal experience from the moment I walked through the door. I was given some great suggestions on restaurants as well places to go for the best sunset. As I was in Cartagena during the pandemic, I was grateful to see that the hotel was 100% mindful of sanitation and cleanliness during my entire 4 night stay. Masks were always worn and hand sanitizer and shoe cleaning agents were present every time you walked in the hotel. I was especially grateful that the hotel upgraded me to the most marvelous suite with a bathtub bigger than I’ve ever seen! Breakfast was made to order each morning and was delicious. All in all, I really enjoyed every moment of my stay and cannot wait to return to Cartagena and the Alfiz!!

The lovely Alfiz Hotel is in the heart of the Walled City and the location couldn't be better. Once you are allowed entry to the building, you enter the tranquil oasis that was our home for three nights. There are lovely common rooms - both indoors and outside. There's a garden right next to the breakfast dining area and a small plunge pool on the second floor. On the rooftop, there are three small sitting areas as well as a hot tub. The rooms themselves are all unique. Ours was a small room on the first floor with 15 ft ceilings and a tub in the main room. The toilet did have a door, but not a roof (walls were 8 ft tall) so make sure you are comfortable with your roommate! The staff was wonderful and accommodating especially since we were there when there were Covid-19 restrictions put upon tourists. Despite that, we felt welcome and well cared for. If I had to be quarantined anywhere in Cartagena, this would be the place I'd choose. It would be even more wonderful in "normal" times.

Thank you for your warm words in this hard time for the tourism branch and especially for our small boutique hotel. You were probably one of our last guests this month after we have been forced to close "the oasis" in the old town. We are convinced that we will go through this catastrophic situation and it will be better soon, in the meanwhile we hope that every guest or future visitor to Cartagena can postpone their travel plans instead of canceling, so keep your dreams to visit us alive!

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. It was absolutely the best! The location is perfect, in the heart of the old walled city. It is very quiet, with only 9 rooms. We felt totally safe, the front door is always locked, and we would leave our key at the desk whenever we went out. The rooms were very comfortable, and the little pool was a bonus for a little cool down in the hot afternoon. Breakfast was delicious: with fresh fruit, juice, and eggs. The staff were the best. They were all so friendly and attentive, always willing to assist with whatever we needed. Absolutely superior! Without a doubt, we would highly recommend this hotel. Thank-you for such an enjoyable stay! We hated to leave

Alfiz hotel offers a very antique look and it was well achieved! It seems as if the place was preserved from its original construction and it gives you the predated feeling of staying in a vintage accomodation. My favorite part on this trip was the amazing breakfast Estella prepares every day! Shout out to the staff Estella, Carina and Manuel who were very accommodating and helpful. Anything you ask, they will do their best to help. They made our stay very memorable and we were quite sad to leave. Our room wad a loft and right across the pool - very convenient. The gate would be opened and closed so untegistered guests were not able to come in. Safety expectations met! Overall, it wad the staff that made our stay very comfortably. Highly recommend this hotel as it is located in the heart of the walled city.

Alfiz hotel is a perfect secure and relaxing spot in the walled part of the city. The colonial interior is well maintained and furnished.
We had The Indigenous room on the ground floor which was quite delightful. Though it is near the kitchen, we had no problem with either staff preparing food or guests arriving for breakfast. It felt very private. The room is also well equipped.
As previous reviews mention, the staff are friendly, courteous and quick to help.
Will be happy to recommend this hotel to friends hoping to visit Colombia next year.
Thank you.

Hi Laura, the closest beaches in Cartagena are in Bocagrande and Castillogrande approx. 2 miles from the hotel. At the front desk we help you also to coordinate day trips to the islands, snorkeling and city tours most of them is not necessary to book in advance.
