Alfiz Hotel is a great place to stay! The staff are extremely helpful. All the front desk staff, including Manuel and Alejandra, helped me book a very good private historic walking tour of Cartagena, arrange a day trip to Isla del Sol and sent me to the perfect salad bar restaurant ( Crepes y Waffles.) With only 8 charming, spotless and very comfortable rooms on 2 floors, a delicious breakfast is also served to order next to an open-air tropical garden. When I asked for yogurt the first day and only liquid yogurt was available, the second day they served a perfect 'greek yogurt.' I highly recommend the Alfiz!! I'd return in a heartbeat!

We absolutely loved our stay here, and we would go back as the experience was great. The location is great! The costumer service is fantastic, everyone was so nice and helpful. Always giving us great advise, and recommendations for places to visit, and things to eat. They were all super attentive, and they have 24/7 front desk support.
Location: The hotel is located inside the walled city, on the Centro Historico. Steps away from the Torre del Reloj. It's actually walking distance to everything, including Getsemani (at least it was for us, and we were there with my mother). You can find great restaurants, discos, icecream stores, shopping and pretty much anything around it. However, please be aware that with it's centric location you will also see and hear a lot of movement around it, so if you are a light sleeper, take notice. It did not affect us at all, as we are deep sleepers, so the centric location was great for us!
The reception: When you get to the hotel, they welcome you with a complimentary drink, which was very delicious. The place feels as if you had stepped through a time portal, and went back to the colonial times. So cool. They offer free coffee, books that you can borrow, and some binders with recommended tours and attractions. The front desk ladies that were in when we first got there, were supper attentive, and made the check-in process a super easy experience.
Room: We stayed in the room called La Republica, and it is a beautiful room. It has a balcony to the main street full of flowers, a living room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedroom on the main floor of the suite offers a little more privacy as it has a door, however, we believe this is the secondary room, as the bed is smaller than the king size bed that you can find on the second floor. The bathroom here is slightly bigger than the one found on the second floor, however, please keep in mind that they are on the smaller size. The AC can be set at a lower temperature here as well, as the room can be closed off and has it's own AC unit. To get to the second floor, you will need to use the spiral staircase. The bed on the second floor is huge, and you can find the hair dryer there as well. The bathroom is smaller than the one on the first floor. The AC for this room is shared with the rest of the unit, so it can get a little hotter than expected. It is still nowhere near as hot as it gets outside (yes, Cartagena is VERY hot). Note: Because there is a balcony to the main street, the suite can get loud at night, however it has extra wooden doors that you can close on top of the glass doors, and that will help with the noise.
Extras: The hotel offers free breakfast. We ate the breakfast at the hotel everyday, as the food was delicious. Things to know, the juice comes from very interesting fruits, my husband loved them, but I was not into them. They mostly change the juice per day. The bowls with fruits were very good, the fruit served is very fresh. There's a small pool on the second floor, same floor as the room we were staying in. It's very cute, but it is small. The water stays pretty warm as the weather in Cartagena is super hot. I loved it. There's a jacuzzi on the rooftop, you need to ask the front desk before using it, but it's beautiful up there. However, you do need to go up a more difficult spiral staircase than the one in the room. It was an adventure for me, but my husband and my mother did not find it difficult. The bedroom has a small fridge with water, beers, sodas and cold wine. These cost extra, but they are there in case you need it. We found the prices to be ok, but you can still find better prices on supermarkets or drugstores.
Overall, we loved the place, we loved the staff, and we would go back as it was an awesome experience.

We stayed at the Alfiz two nights while in Cartagena returning from Baru Island. At the outset the staff were excellent. Very kind, professional and accommodating. We were a group of six and took up four of their rooms. Each room was very clean and decorated beautifully. I like to stay in a hotel that reflects the country I visit and the Alfiz fit that, starting with the massive wooden entry door, the lobby furniture and the room decor. Breakfast was delicious and served daily at 7am. We were up before 7am to catch our early flight on the last day and they have a self serve coffee maker in the lobby. Back to breakfast (included in the room rate)...cooked to order eggs, fresh fruit, tea, coffee all made with a smile by the awesome cook just beyond our tables. I recommend you travel with small bills so you can tip the cook and staff who are helpful. Additionally, we had several of our group arriving on separate flights throughout the morning and afternoon, so we contacted the Alfiz in advance to see if they could help us with transportation and would allow our first arrival group to sit at their hotel while we waited for others even though we would not be staying there until a few days later (after our Baru visit). No problem! They greeted us warmly, invited us to freshen up in their lobby restroom and arranged a van to take us back to the hotel to pick up other arrivals and then onto Baru. I give this hotel and their staff 5 stars!

This place is excellent to get to know the center of Cartagena. Upon our arrival we were offered drinks and seated in an air-conditioned room. They gave us a nice, colonial room. The included breakfast is a la carte and has a wide variety of fruit, eggs, coffee, bread, arepa. They cook very well.
There are special details, like beers and wines that you order, and you take the ones you want and then pay for them at the reception at the end at a super cheap price. Coffee at the time you want is included, they tell you how to prepare it and you go at the time you need it. They helped us with the taxi, unloading suitcases, recommending us to the San Valentín restaurant (also excellent) and were always very helpful.
The location is incredible. And despite being in the center, it is safe and quiet to sleep comfortably. It has a safe. All its people with great attitude, Manuel, the guero, etc... I highly recommend it and be sure to stay there if you want to get to know the center of Cartagena.

We stayed in Cartagena for 3 nights and we chose the hotel because it was rather economical. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. It’s has a perfect location, walking distance to all landmarks with helpful staff, clean rooms and all what you need in a breakfast (daily fresh juice, fresh coffee and omelettes included) Thank you Fareed for your service we will be back soon!

This place feels like it came straight out of the imagination of the great Gabriel García Marquez—elegant yet intimate, vibrant, and rich in culture. The Viceroyal Suite is truly out of this world. Congratulations to the team who restored and now runs this historic mansion. It is perfectly located within the city walls, with great restaurants, museums, and bars all within walking distance. The lobby exudes sophistication, and their breakfast offers a delightful taste of Colombian Caribbean cuisine. The pillows could be a bit better, but the team was receptive to our feedback. Overall, great service and atmosphere. Highly recommended for couples seeking a romantic experience.

The place is beautiful and just what we wanted. It’s right in the center, you walk out right onto the busy streets of Cartagena in the walled city, yet it’s far enough away that it’s very quiet at night. It was very hot when we were there but the rooms ac was great and made it a very comfortable night. The pool is refreshing during the day and it’s nice to sit on the rooftop and have a glass of wine before going out. Service was amazing! Breakfast was delicious, the cooks were so friendly and accommodating. The receptionist Alejandra, was always on top of everything and make sure we had everything we needed. The other receptionists Maria & Karina were also very pleasant and always there to help answer questions and recommend places to visit or restaurants to eat at.

Alfiz is an amazing property. Given that people have been living there since 1777 it was like experiencing history: not quite time travel as we had electricity and plugs to recharge devices. The breakfast will be custom made to your specific tastes by an excellent cook and delightful serving staff. The location was fabulous for exploring Centro, eating in great restaurants, and catching early morning catamaran trips to the Rosarios.
We were advised by the Manager long before our arrival that the 2 level junior suite might be difficult for the seniors that we are. I wanted the experience anyway. However, the steps are dimly lit & while I was very careful somehow in the morning I still managed to fall down the suspended stairs where the steps become very narrow on the turn. Luckily it was mostly my pride that was hurt, not my body so much. I just think I should caution others nearing their 80s that maybe it would be wise to reserve one of their other rooms that do not have a mezzanine bedroom. You’ll still get the wonderful experience of this hotel.

We had a very nice 2-day stay in this small hotel with style and colonial flair. It is in an excellent location and surprisingly quiet for exploring the wonderful old town of Cartagena on foot. The staff is extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. We really liked our room #6 ("Pirates") on the upper floor, which faces the inner courtyard/garden. Good bed and functioning, stylish bathroom/shower. The air conditioning and fan were good and necessary in temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius, which "felt" as high as 42 degrees. There is a small but good breakfast and the freshly brewed, steaming coffee "Tinto" was good, as were the egg dishes and fresh fruit. Unfortunately, the small packaged jams (not homemade) are not much good for toast; it is best to bring your own. We did not use the mini pool or plunge pool or jacuzzi on the roof; it was too hot for us. There is a library with a coffee machine (coffee is free there) and you can tap your own water. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. and you can sit in a nice place with a view of a small green garden. Thanks to Manuel and Gerson and the colleagues in the service and kitchen. We felt very welcome as guests and can highly recommend the Hotel Alfiz. It offers everything we expected. No spectacular international luxury, but authenticity, comfort and hospitality.

Enter a wooden door into history. The rooms are unique, the beds are comfortable, the rooms spotless, the staff are friendly and helpful. The position is ideal and most of the major places of interest are only a short walk away. The walls are nearby and you have a fine choice of restaurants and bars. Start breakfast with freshly squeezed juices, follow with seasonal fruit and a variety of eggs cooked to order. I booked two trips with the reception and immensely enjoyed both.

Yes indeed as L_and_RBrisbane informed in the past post our boutique hotel is located at the heart of Cartagena's old town at walking distance to all main attractions. We hope you visit us soon!
Hi Laura, the closest beaches in Cartagena are in Bocagrande and Castillogrande approx. 2 miles from the hotel. At the front desk we help you also to coordinate day trips to the islands, snorkeling and city tours most of them is not necessary to book in advance.
