I stayed here with my boyfriend in October and we loved it. The staff at the hotel was SO friendly. Our Spanish is terrible, yet we were able to get communications across and they paid attention to the little details. One morning we had a tour early, and they had packed us a little goodie-bag to go! We didn't even realize they knew our schedule. The morning we left, they had set up breakfast on the patio right outside our door and remembered we only ate the bananas out of the fruit cup! <3 The location was great - within a very short walking distance to the shops and restaurants and the water front. Great budget option on the islands.
We used the hostal as our main base for exploring Galapagos through day tours. Lava House is located relatively close to the main area of Puerto Ayora (10 minutes walk to restaurants, 15-20 minutes walk to the port). The owners seem to live on the premises, as almost always one was around. The room were clean, but a bit noisy. The windows were not well insulated. When raining you could hear water dripping on metal plates. The water pressure was iffy. The breakfast was good but having start at 7 means that we missed it when we had to be at port by that hour. They did prepare cold sandwiches and fruit in to go breakfast bags though. It is difficult to understand if paying $100/night is a good value for Puerto Ayora or not given the shortcomings listed above. Overall, however, this was a good stay and lacking comparison would return, thus the relatively high rating.…
The location is very close to Centro Mercado and so we could enjoy the real local foods as lunch and dinner. The balcony in front of my room had an outdoor table, chairs and hammock! My family could relax after all day tour and eat snacks in a fresh wind. The internet speed was much better than the previous hostel. I could watch my favorite on-demand movie. Also our questions about day tour, islands, etc could be answered by a staff named Javier. Other staffs for breakfast and bedding and Javier's mom as an owner were always available and glad to help us. If I has to choose one place, I will go to Lava house again. We visited multiple places and decided to stay here from May 21 to May 24.
The rooms were confortable and clean . I never could get the temperature of the water in the shower right, either was cold or super hot! I didn’t like the location. It is far away from the port. We have to take taxi all the time. The breakfast was included in the price but it was poor.
This hostel is run by an awesome family, all extremely friendly and very helpful, each and everyone of them was always making sure we were comfortable. The rooms are a decent size, all with AC units and TVs, they offer a nice home made breakfast every morning. Would definitely stay here again. I even had to connect and work remotely one morning by the patio and I believe it was the niece of one of the owners that came up and offered me some chocolate! Can’t say enough about this place and the family.
