Since we are Portuguese, decided to visit Kochi because of the first Europeans who arrived at India - namely Vasco da Gama, who died in this city; supposedly has lived in the house now occupied by Le Colonial Hotel - a beautiful, well preserved, extremely comfortable human scale hotel. Couldn't have chosen better! Extremely kind, attentive and professional staff. We...

This is about the most awful travel experience I've ever had. My reservation isn't until next week, but I contacted the hotel to amend one of my 3 rooms that I booked. Note that this property is pretty pricey, and the booking site I used through TripAdvisor and the hotel already have 1,80,000 INR of my money. The hotel is...

Le Colonial was our favourite place to stay in Kerala. The resorts in the mountains were lovely, but this place was like a home. The property is very nicely landscaped and includes a lovely little swimming pool that leads to an open-air dining area. At the time of our stay, we were the only customers there, so we received personal...

Le Colonial is, I think, Asia’s oldest hotel in Fort Cochin – dates to 1506. Its adjacent to St. Francis Church and its said that Vasco da Gama and the Saint Ranscis had too stayed in that building. Its now managed by the famous Neemrana brand of India. I had the pleasure to stay there on one of my business...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Le Colonial, by the Chinese fishing nets of Fort Cochin, is probably Asia's oldest colonial house, dating back to 1506. Located in the very heart of Fort Cochin, right next to Saint Francis Church, this legendary house is said to have housed the Saint as also Vasco de Gama. After 150 years as the Portuguese Governor's residence, it was one of the very few houses not to have been destroyed when the Dutch took Fort Cochin. It then housed the Dutch Governors for a century and a half, until Jan van Spall sold it to the British in 1795. In turn, they passed it on to the J. Thomas, the renowned tea trader. These five captive centuries of history have been lovingly restored and the hotel is a true living museum. Treasures of art from the colonial past have revived that era, turning Le Colonial into a "Club" and meeting point for the discerning travelers. ... more   less
