After the long flight from Canada and a 3:30 am arrival it was a delight to find myself in a unique, simple guest room at Odayam beach. Having travelled extensively in Asia in the 70's I rediscovered here something of the ambiance and hospitality of those times that often seem long past. Set back from the beach in a lovely...

I stayed at Mektoub for about two weeks in December 2013. It is a pretty place with clean, airy rooms and is located within a 20-minute walk of the tourist cluster on Varkala Cliff. I left in disgust, however. The billing was dishonest, with double charges casually presented and surprise charges for "services" never mentioned when I checked in. I'm...

When you arrive in your tastefully lit and decorated, spotless room and find it sprinkled with fresh jasmine and scented with incense, you know you've likely made a good choice. :) So did we, and instead of staying for a night or two, we spent four nights in this fantastically peaceful resort, situated in a coconut palm grove near a...

This is the first review that I am writing on TripAdvisor and that is because Mektoub deserves to be well publicized here. I and my girlfriend were there in August '13 - just as the monsoon season was ending and Rafique - the owner - graciously gave us discounted rates. Our room and its sea facing balcony were tastefully lit...

We wanted to spend 2 weeks in Rafiq's paradise in January/February 2013, but we were not able to leave and so we spent one more week in heaven ... :) We were searching for a beautiful and special place in Varkala for a long time. Nothing attracted us as much as Rafiq's Mektoub. We were hungry for peace and tranquility,...

I have mixed feelings about this place The pluses - Rafiq is a very welcoming host and the rooms clean and are in a beautiful location creating an incredibly relaxing atmosphere, you are well away from the worst of Varkala The negative - the food is overpriced and of average quality - and as with other reviewers you only really...

Of course it's a wonderful spot in India, clean, quite and authentic. Rafiq welcoms you warmly and makes you feel comfortable from the first second but please check your bill with precaution as some dishes might be evaluated 10 times more that the reality. It happened to me personally. One tiny fish was billed 10$, and the real value was...

If you're looking for somewhere quiet, peaceful and close to the beach this is the place for you. The rooms back out onto rice fields, and the beach is just a minutes walk away. The rooms are beautiful, simple and clean. Nice touches including incense and flowers at night. The only downfall was the price of food which made eating...

Mektoub...Two musical syllabus...An exotic oriental word...A signifiant meaning: "Destiny", which reveals its secret and does hide It altogether Mektoub...Not exactly a beach resort, neither a guest house...as Mektoub has no pretentions, no intentions whatsoever... Mektoub is rather both a journey and a destination...a living entity offering you an amazing unique expérience... Mektoub is an immersion both into Mother Nature and...
