The moment we entered - the lush greens mesmerised us. The beauty of the Nilgiris and the amazing lawns took my heart away.
Especially the restaurant staff were very courteous and helped in finding the right dishes. Gassu Dhotti recommend by chef was amazing.

During Covid times, I was very scared to plan for a vacation with a Sr. Citizen mother and 2 year old son. But, when I entered this property, I was confident that the staff is ensuring all possible hygiene, safety protocols and guidlines. The hotel staff went above and beyond to ensure that our stay is pleasant and safe. I'd like to name Sheetal, Zach, Kannan from front desk, they ensured that throughout my stay our all needs are well taken care off. Shafi and Aravind from the food and beverages department ensured the food is not spicy for my son and mom. Everything was delivered to our room so that we have minimum contacts with anyone.
When we entered the tyres of car were sanitized at the gate. The hotel team has placed a footwear disinfection and all world class disinfection sprays to protect the guests. Our room was very well sanitized and there was a bottle of hand sanitizer.
All and all a great experience during new normal and I'd highly recommend to visit this property.

This hotel was developed from a Victorian priory attached to the next door church. The rooms are all individual and the decor is age appropriate so not modern or up to date with the exception of the bathroom. Service was very friendly and the food was delicious. We were spoiled the first morning by an extensive breakfast buffet which wasn’t available the following day as fewer rooms were occupied (although we could order anything we wanted a la carte). The only problem for us was that everything we wanted to do was in Ooty, 20 km away along a slow road which took at least an hour to drive. So we drove through Ooty to get to the hotel, then Ooty and back for sightseeing the next day and the back to Ooty for the toy train. So for us, the location was not ideal. But a lovely hotel nonetheless.

I had the opportunity to visit the Gateway Coonoor on 29th Oct 21 for a 2 night stay along with my wife. First of all - i would like to share about the amazing service of the staff. I would like to share that they are extremely pleasant and professional and ensured that our stay right from start till the end was totally awesome.Mr. Kannan from the frontline staff who assisted me from the time i made the reservation till the time we checked out and even beyond was an absolute professional who ensured that our stay was just superb. I think these are the little things which matter a lot and make a huge difference. Mr. Bala who takes care of the property is a thorough gentleman and i really appreciated what he has done especially by checking if the roads were all safe when we were checking out and it was raining and there was fog as well.
The culinary staff was totally awesome too especially with the dishes made by Mr. Ramalingam and his team. The buffet breakfast had a huge variety and array of foods juices and shakes. The biryani we ordered was totally super delicious.
Talking about the property, it was BREATHTAKING. Especially in this time where its very cold and the morning fog and viewing the mountains was a real treat and pleasure to the eyes. Its got lush and huge green lawns and overall a great property to stay. The rooms were very cozy and warm and were spick and span and the housekeeping team does a amazing job in ensuring that the rooms are always neat and clean. Any issue that i had, it was just a phone call away and they were able to resolve.
Overall its an amazing heritage property coupled with some superb service situated on a nice location ( Upper Coonoor ) and hardly 30-45 mins to Ooty. The hotel even organized a few activities in the evening. Once again, sincere thanks to Mr Kannan, Chef Ramalingam and Mr Bala and his Team. You guys are great ambassadors of true service and Taj Group is extremely lucky to have you all.

We paid more than 14k for the superior double room. It was so small and congested and no proper privacy as well. It didn’t even have a bath tub. In the name of heritage substandard furniture was available in the room. There was no mini fridge . In March it was pretty warm and hot in the room.. atleast a decent fan can be provided instead of the table fan like fixture. On top of paying so much for one night, when we went for an evening stroll in the smaller lawn we were told it’s booked for a private dinner. We conveyed our dissatisfaction and the manager upgraded our room.. but overall considering the facilities and property size it’s too expensive. It’s not at all worth the money paid. We have also stayed in other properties of similar or below rates and this was absolutely not comparable

Centrally located. Beautiful and well maintained property. Courteous staff particularly Mr Chandru was very helpful in deciding our menu and made sure we enjoyed our dinner in room. Covid 19 complaint facilities. Beautiful lawn with mountain view. Each room was unique. Bar is small but made me feel it is my private bar.

The menu needs a revamp as the non local items do not come any where near their originals. Pav Bhaji for instance does not qualify from appearance to taste.The pizza also was no where near the mark. How ever the local foods like the tomato rice of upma were classic. The toilet walls could use small pic frames to bring life into the room. Entry to the toilets could be from the side area so the door doesnt open directly in the bed room. A small night lamp would help senior citizens.

We stayed for 5 days and 4 nights with our 2 dogs and paid for the stay alone INR 93,000 (including pet charges). To be honest, there was a LOT that could have been better about our stay. While I understand that the property is close to 200 years old, this is not a free pass for the maintenance to be absolutely substandard and certainly not at the premium that is being charged for it. I feel that the room and the bathroom a major update to justify the room charges. I have stayed at many heritage buildings and they have all been in MUCH MUCH better condition. Pillows were terrible. The food was below average in taste and presentation. Room service was prompt, but a simple request to replace a tomato soup with mushroom soup (both cost the same) was not accommodated which when you're eating exclusively at the property for 5 days and running up quite a tab is just not ok. We requested the fireplace to be lit at 7:30 - the person showed up at 10:30 after many reminders, did a shoddy job so that the fire simply died out in 5 mins and then took again more time to come back and light it where he just poured a LOT of kerosene on the fire which made the room smell awful. Even though there were 3 of us staying in the room, the towels, toiletries etc were only provided for 2. No cleaning was done on the first day at all and the job was very shoddy (same dirt was in the room even on the other days).
The grounds and property overall is lovely, but I think there's a LOT that can be improved before I would think of returning or even recommending it to others.

It exceeded my expectations in every way...All rooms are having different interiors being a heritage property and spacious with in room fireplace(real). Checkin was smooth and they offered some warm local drink which was good. Kids enjoyed a lot, they have game room for adults as well as kids which is good. I would really like to mention not only one name but every staff member individually is worth a praise in their respective departments. They went beyond their specific duties to accomodate our requests. Breakfast restaurant manager was specially guiding me with a local fruit and how to eat it specifying its benefits. There was a nilgiri buiscuit which is supposed to be eaten by dipping it in tea. All these gestures enhanced our stay experience. The team really knows how to give guests exceptional service so that we are are left with no choice other than appreciating their efforts. Even the night duty manager (Abhishek) was worth a praise who was helping us on regular basis with our specofic requirements. At night time they also place hot water bottles for fomentation in every room wich helps in relaxation. I must have missed many other things to mention here like bon fire etc but all in all I find the property and more than it the team exceptional who leaves no stone unturned for your best stay experience. This hotel will be cheroshed by me forever and will definitely stay here if I visit Coonoor again. Also bathroom is spotlessly clean and filled with all toilletries and amenities. Housekeeping staff was also very quick to accomodate our requests.

Homecoming is what we exactly felt like being there amongst the team members , right from our booking through Mr Murali and Mrs Khyati till our arrival at the hotel to our departure, everything was smooth and simply fabulous. A marvelous short break at this simply amazing hotel which is located amongst huge manicured gardens and lawns . A break so refreshing where in we were given the best room and made comfortable but also pampered most with delicious local cuisine every single day of our stay . It actually felt like being home with your family members. Awesome cottages facing the gardens which gave us a total countryside feel , always smiling ,courteous, helpful and friendly staff who are just a call away , great ambience and mouthwatering and finger licking food and lovely bonfire evenings when the weather would be chilly and cold . We are extremely thankful to the entire team who were very patient and careful with my mother would take time to walk and sit due to her recent fall . We simply cannot thank you enough for how you all have taken care of my mother . A huge shout out to the following people without whom my stay wouldn't be a comfortable and memorable one . Mr Muralikrishna, Mrs Khyati for the booking , Mr Ritish , Mr Kannan who is also the soul and heart of the hotel and made us feel most welcomed with so much love , Sathish , Zachary at Front office who would be there to help any time and every time . Am not sure about the heated pool, moreover pools in most hotels aren't operational due to the pandemic, you could however check with the hotel. The rooms are pretty spacious and for a family of 4 with 2 kids under the age of 6 , I think it should be ok

Unlike any other premium hotel, this particular place is a heritage hotel with rooms resembling that of traditional houses. Though I am not sure, chances are that they are permitted. You may directly contact the rxn desk for further clarification.

You might face a problem when you visit the common areas inside the hotel if your mom can't use the stairs. The building is a bungalow. The entrance to the rooms faces the garden. So, that's two steps to your room.
Then, there are a few steps to get to the reception, which you need to take to get to the dining area, book room, games room.
You have the option of ordering meals to your room. Plan accordingly.
The Taj people are nice. They are always willing to help. If you have any queries, call the hotel and ask for Sathish at the reception. He should be able to help with planning.
