I picked this hotel out of the L.P which lists a number of places in the area. With retrospect I probably should have checked some others but I was tired and couldn’t be bothered traipsing around.
My 420R room was not particularly clean. As is typical the double bed was two singles pushed together. Mattress' were in a bad way, pillow cases ripped. There was cable tv not that I watched it.
The bathroom was grim. Had obviously not been cleaned properly since... ever. The shower pressure was absolutely pathetic. I had to press myself against the wall to get under it.
Reception staff were ok but you're not gonna make any friends here.
One good thing about the hotel was the fact that checkout is 24 hour - you get the room for 24 hours.
I asked to keep it a couple of hours beyond the 24 (and offered to pay something extra) but was told I'd have to pay for another night.
There are plenty of other hotel options on this street as well as restaurants and internet cafés.
If you want to eat meat you could try Mahal Restaurant on Town Hall Rd (L.P listed.) The tandoori chicken was good. Though annoyingly the waiter stood over me waiting to see how much of a tip I was going to leave.
Biggest problem was the beg bugs. Woke up with almost a hundred bites, when I told reception they did come and change the sheets about an hour later, but there was no apology.
We were not told that we had the room for 24 hours, so presumed it was a 10 o'clock check out at the earliest. When I went to reception to inquire about this on the day of leaving, the angry staff told me 'check in 6.30, check out 6.30, you leave now. You check out now.'. That is fine if that is a rule, but I have never encountered this before in my years of travelling so surely they would mention it at check in? No. Horrible. They then proceeded to tell one of the room porters to tell us to leave again. At least he did offer us a cup of tea or coffee. And I suppose it is lucky we did want to leave as soon as possible anyway.
