I stayed at kautilya society i february 2012 for two nights travelling alone. You feel welcome, staff is really nice and as it is a cultural organisation the spirit is really good and different from ordinary hostels/hotels. I went on a heritage walk (2500 rps), a little expensive, but worth every rupee, as Dave, from the filo café upstairs, knows...

I spent 7 days at Ram Bhawan Kautilya Society and I can say without any hesitation that Kautilya is among the best places, if not the best, I’ve ever stayed during my visits to Varanasi. Surprisingly, the place is very clean and tidy, though one has to reach it by walking through a rather filthy but authentic ‘gali’. I was...

I stayed at the Ram Bhavan Kautilya Society Guest House (KSGH) for three nights at the beginning of December 2011, after having gone through the reviews at Tripadvisor. As per my experience and based on discussions with other residents of the Guest House, this is definitely one of the best options of stay in the budget category in Varanasi. While...

Really enjoyed my stay here. Super clean, wonderful food, hot shower! (my first in India in a number of weeks). I note another traveller has mentioned it's dark. I agree, but this didn't impact on the atmosphere of the place at all and each bed had an additional bed-side lamp. Both of the showers I used had lockable doors. The...

We stayed during our second trip to India at Ram Bhawan since it got good ratings at tripadvisor. The place is centrally located and can be easily found if you stick to the descirption they give on their website. Although the staff was very helpful in general we couldn't help but feeling a little bit embarrassed by the darkness of...

This place is really quite cool. Free breakfast and free lunch (which is awesome fresh dahl, vegetarian curries and chapati's) included in the price. The rooms are clean, a little dimly lit but everything is freshly painted and decorated in a traditional style by Dave, the manager of the rooftop cafe that does good, proper espresso. The whole place has...

Firstly, my sincere thanks to Trip Advisor. I learnt about Kautilya Society from this site and then did the phone/email correspondence with the Kautilya Society people. The Kautilya Society is housed in a building called the "Ram Bhavan". This place is approximately half a kilometer from the "Bank of Baroda" ATM. This ATM is located near the vegetable market en-route...

This is a good place to stay if you are looking for interesting, clean and well run accommodation by the Ganages. The lunch served is excellent. The staff are very pleasant. There are very nice areas inside the complex to relax. Although it is special and is not run like any other backpackers, realise that the guests may be just...

The society has put great effort into creating a unique property with real character. The original building has been developed with great care. The staff are caring and helpful but be aware that this is not a standard hotel or hostel - see their website. Nevertheless the standards are excellent for the price (starting at just INR 550pn). Breakfast (included)...
