Highlight of the stay was food..extremely delicious cooking.. breakfast was sumptuous ..enjoyed the local flavors and special mention to Nikita and Vishal for enhancing the dining experience during breakfast buffet. Improvement areas are room keeping..they arrive late and need reminders at times..travel desk is little lousy..they could give more personalized suggestions and recos( eg my parents were senior citizens for aarti they could have recommended assi ghat instead of dashashamedh). Size of the room could be bigger..even Taj Colaba Palace is more spacious than a Varanasi property! Lastly, the reception staff could be a little more welcoming. They are quite serious and don't bother to take feedback on stay!

Taj Stay is always memorable. While Taj always delivers on its service, but Taj Ganges just surpassed any experience across any hotel across any nation. On arrival at Taj Ganges I mentioned l to Mr Asif that my 70 year old mother was visiting Taj for the first time, he would always ask about her whenever we met, he made her light the diya, Mr Asif could have asked someone staying in a Suite or a regular customer to light the diya. Mr Pramod and Mr Rambilas ensuring my mom and wife take warm water dip of feet in copper vessel to ease the stress of feet. Mr Ranjit for being one of the best housekeeping staff i have come across in my life.
Mr Ayush, one of the most delightful faces and someone who will ensure that the guest is more than taken care of. While the Cappucino machine was not working, he made a home made type coffee, which he was not required to do.
And Finally Gopal, such a great guy at the front office reception. Took special care to show the room to Mom and make her feel special
Taj Ganges touched a special emotional cord, right from it's service to special messages left at the room !

Amazing, amazing hospitality. We come back to Taj Ganges every year for our annual travel. Each and every member of Taj group treat us like family and pamper us to fullest. I would like to specially thank Jennie whom we get our spa treatment done. She is the best and is respectful and caring. Room service person Sonu was very caring and brought foot soaking tub every night. He always kept our room in superb condition. Hospitality and food at Chowk restaurant is excellent. I would like to mention Muskan for taking care of our food and serving special Banarasi food to us every year. She has become a family to us. Deepak, Ratan, Punam, Vishal, Rajnandini are awesome to their guests. We will be looking forward to our visit next year.

Food: Dinner buffet was subpar, not many options, and quality of food was substandard. My son and daughter had bad stomach after consuming food. My son vomited the same night in the hotel.
Service: It took a good 10 mins before we could get a table. Once it was allotted, the gentleman (Mr. Abhimanyu) arranging our table just shook off food particles from the table mats right next to the table and tried to place the same for us. Disgusting. I had to ask him if this is how they arrange tables and then he got them changed. He was least interested in catering to us. Most of the times staff is attentive and hovering around non-indian guests, almost standing at their table for 10+ mins, while we kept waiting for someone to serve us what we ordered (we ordered Jain food for my mom and a banarasi lassi for myself). Food for my mom was served after 2 follow-ups and after about 20+ mins. The d4ink I ordered never came until we were donenwith our dinner and I even forgot about it. But then the server came and asked if we still want the lassi. It was very subpar service to be honest. We did not feel welcome other than the initial garland welcome and welcome drink, which was nice.
They don't have any golf carts to drop guests till the main gate which is not much distance but for elderly it still is a hassle.
Main reception was crowded and the washroom in the lobby was very small and very dirty - to the extent that there was piss all around the urinals, flowing all over the bathroom. Yikes! I used the wheelchair accessible washroom for my son just to use a clean washroom.
While it was per policy, but an extra bed was chargeable, whicle the same is provided free of cost at most 5 star properties.
Won't stay at Taj Ganges again. Taj is known for its hospitality which we have experienced at a lot of its other properties, unfortunately this one was one of them.

We had a stay at Taj Varanasi in a Deluxe Suite City View room—but the ‘city view’ was a metal sheet roof with bird droppings and a construction site, not the view you’d expect from a suite, especially not one I’d like while having my morning tea. Booking a suite, I expected to be away from the noise, but the constant hammering and construction work during the day was a major letdown. On top of that, the room was full of mosquitoes, and the extra blankets had stains. On the bright side, the food at Varuna restaurant was delicious, especially the Satvik Thali and Kebabs. However, even there, the curtains weren’t working, and they couldn’t lift them for us to enjoy a good view while dining. The breakfast buffet at Chowk was nice with good options, and our server, Akash, was extremely helpful, courteous, attentive, and always a call away. Overall, the stay was good, but I’d expect better—if not the best—from the Taj brand.

Ayush - from the concierge desk - was our point of contact and he arranged all our tours, car, and other details to perfection. He obtained train tickets for us last minute - he was a pleasure to work with and all his help made out stay truly enjoyable. The dining staff was outstanding. The team consisted of Poonam, Ritishan, Tanu, Ratan, and Vishal - they worked as a team and made sure we were taken care of at each meal. Each evening the housekeeping staff brough us a beautiful foot soak with rose petals and they too were extremely helpful. It was our first time in Varanasi and did not know what to expect. Thanks to the staff at your hotel - along with our guide Dhananjay and Taj driver Deepak - our stay was most enjoyable and memorable.

Taj Ganges stands out for its service! Whether it was Mohit at the front desk who took care of us when our flight got cancelled and somehow ensured accomodation for us, despite such a busy period and being fully booked, or Rupsa ensuring the smooth check in and check out. Mr Amar was so gracious and helped us organise our itinerary of things we wanted to get done in Varanasi. Our driver, Manoj, the best ever. Not only was he practical, courteous and entertaining but he was patient and helped us soo much while we were trying to make sense of the bustle of Benaras. This review is incomplete without the mention of Guru, Abhishek, Navneet and Rashmita from Varuna Restaurant and Ashish and Tanu, from chowk restaurant. The service went way above and beyond our expectations. The way they remembered the guests preferences and likings and suggesting the best dishes to really spoiling us with complementary items fresh from the kitchen, along with some great stories of Benaras. Will never forget how we were taken care of at these two restaurants. Special shout out to Maqbool, the chef of Varuna, who personally came , suggested and prepared special items as per our preference on our last night. The housekeeping staff also did such a great job for the rooms and were always available for any requirements. Above all, thank you Vishal Singh for taking care of us when an unfortunate flight cancellation happened because of which we had to suddenly extend our stay. I will always remember the service extended by Taj Ganges. The most superior in anything I have seen so far, right from the time you enter till you exit! Will definitely recommend this property for your comfortable stay for anyone visiting Kashi :)
P.S: While there, do check out the adjacent Nadesar palace in the mornings. Its heavenly and royal !

Taj Ganges is centrally located with large beautiful gardens. The teams hospitality was amazing. They bent over backwards to make every moment of our stay very comfortable and memorable. The icing on the cake was when, without our saying, they brought hot water copper soaker bowls with Epsom salt and rose petals, the day we had a tiring outing. Well done!

I have frequented the Taj Hotel Ganges in Varanasi until 2017 and cherished those memories, which led me to bring my family here on our recent trip to India. Regrettably, our experience starkly contrasted my previous visits.
While the hotel remains an affordable option in comparison to other esteemed hotels in India like Oberoi and Leela, it falls short in delivering comfort. We encountered small, poorly maintained rooms with an unpleasant odor. A room change did little to alleviate this issue, as the second room also had a moldy smell. Additionally, we faced plumbing issues with a shower that didn’t properly drain water and an air conditioner that dripped water, adding to our discomfort.
Our dining experience at the hotel's Indian restaurant initially compounded our disappointment. Despite our group's diverse food preferences, which included requests for items from the international menu, the service was exceedingly slow. It took over an hour and twenty minutes for our order to arrive, and only after a frustrating interaction with the staff and a direct complaint to the manager. The overall experience was distressing, culminating in a ruined evening and the cancellation of our planned sunrise activity, much to the dismay of our young family members.
However, the dinner on the second day was a pleasant surprise: the food was absolutely amazing, and the service improved significantly on the second day of our stay. This showed the potential of the hotel to deliver quality experiences, but these positives were overshadowed by the earlier issues we faced. Hotel is very old, rooms are below the minimum level.
The service at Taj Hotel Ganges was noticeably poor initially, exacerbated by an understaffed restaurant during a busy period. This is particularly unacceptable in a country like India, known for its hospitality and abundance of willing workforce.
I am disheartened to say that our experience was overwhelmingly negative, despite some positives. Based on this visit, I must advise potential guests to consider alternative accommodations in Varanasi. Despite my previous loyalty to this hotel, it no longer lives up to the standards I fondly remembered.

The hotel is located in the Cantonment area which is about a ten-minute car ride to the Ghaat or the Kashi Vishwanath temple. It has a lovely ambience, great food with different restaurant options and the price is not too bad either. The rooms are very luxurious You tend to get a lot more value for money for the extra bucks. Amid all the hustle of Varanasi, this is a good place to getaway and relax at night.
