We arrived at our hotel in a boat as access is limited by road. Brijrama Palace is overlooking the mighty Ganges, this superb hotel is ideal for visiting all the important places in Varanasi. It is high above the Ganges and looks like a fortress with imposing high wall. In fact the high wall are to protect it when the Ganges is in flood during monsoon. It is not a very big hotel (previously a palace) and we had a small but beautiful bedroom with a side view of the Ganges. The staff were very friendly and all spoke perfect English. As we were in one of the most holiest places for Hindus this hotel is both vegetarian and dry (no alcohol). The service is excellent and the dinning room staff will explain the dishes to you as they are different to what we get in Indian restaurants in Ireland. Breakfast is buffet style, not very large but had most of what we wanted. Only downside is having to order coffee separately which is too slow for me. We had a problem with the kitchen fan which was very loud (even with the windows closed) and disrupted out sleep, however when we eventually (at about 12 midnight) told the receptionist (Mawta) she immediately got a technician to check it out and turn it off, maybe the automatic off switch was not working. The hotel is situated about 3 ghats from the outdoor crematorium and right beside Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat (which we viewed from the hotel's boat) it is a magical sight and the river was crowed with boats of all sizes looking and listening to the Aarti. I would recommend this fabulous hotel in the heart of old Varanasi.

This is a beautiful hotel right on the river Ganges in the very heart of Varanasi. Nearly everything you need to see is around you as the Ganges is teaming with life.
The heritage hotel is very well run with very polite and helpful staff. The restaurant has a good range of food and is very nice.
The building has been beautifully restored to create an atmospheric and relaxing environment. Arriving at the hotel by boat on the Ganges is extraordinary and the hotel offers their own boat to go to the aarti ceremony included in your stay. We highly recommend staying here.

The property is very beautifully located with full views of the Ganges river.Their staff is their biggest asset with all of them being very courteous & polite and willing to go the extra mile to make our stay comfortable and memorable.Special mention of Ms Khushi from the front office who took care of all our scheduling in spite of the heavy rush of the Maha Kumbh Mela. Many complimentary activities are offered including the witnessing of the Ganga Aarti by boat which we greatly appreciated. The room was cleaned every day and complimentary drinking water and fruits are provided. Breakfast on the terrace with superb views was absolutely a great experience. The only minus we saw in our stay was that restaurant food was overpriced and the vegetarian menu lacks variety. But overall Brijrama Palace is the best place to stay if you want to experience Varanasi at its best.

I had a truly delightful stay at Brijrama, where the experience felt like a home away from home. The more than 200 year old residence has been very meticulously curated. The entire staff was exceptionally professional, warm, and welcoming. I would like to extend special thanks to Pramodji and Prince for their exceptional efforts to make our stay comfortable.
Here are some highlights of our visit:
- My daughter fell ill during our travel, and the hotel graciously offered to prepare Khichadi for her on multiple nights, on the house. They also provided homemade yoghurt. This was a very thoughtful touch and I sincerely appreciated this gesture. - Due to heavy rains, the boat service was suspended, so we had to leave on foot. Shortly after, when boats resumed operation, a staff member ran from an alternate route to bring us back to the hotel so we could use the boat. This attentiveness was greatly appreciated. - - The food quality was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and high tea, which featured a wonderful variety of hot Indian snacks and dishes. - A team of 6-7 staff members greeted us upon check-in and even assisted my mother-in-law in a wheelchair up the steps at Assi Ghat. Their kindness made a big difference. - We were warmly welcomed with a spiritual ceremony and given a Bhagavad Gita upon departure, along with several thoughtful gifts, including a small container of Ganga Jal.
For future visitors, here are some helpful tips: 1. Parking is available at Assi Ghat, from where you can take the hotel boat to Darbhanga Ghat, where the hotel is located. 2. During rain or strong winds, boat services may be restricted, necessitating access via narrow back roads, which can be muddy. It’s advisable to bring crocs or rain boots to navigate these roads comfortably. 3. If you prefer to avoid walking through muddy, narrow back roads, it’s best to visit during drier months. The hotel provides assistance for navigating these paths and offers shoe covers. 4. The hotel offers a variety of activities such as Yagna, pottery, astrology, and yoga, along with a live Kathak performance. Since some activities overlap, it can be challenging to attend everything. They also have a paan counter available post-dinner.
Overall, Brijrama provides a memorable and accommodating experience, with attentive staff and a range of engaging activities

We spent 3 nights at the hotel during our recent trip around India.
The hotel is situated on the banks of the Ganges, “in the middle of the action”, with many of the important sites within a few minutes’ walk. This is great for visiting, but severely restricts access to the hotel – it is impossible for motorised transport to reach the building, so arriving guests are collected from one of two ghats by boat. In good visibility this means there is a superb view of the river bank and hotel even before checking in.
It is a small hotel, very atmospheric, well furnished and equally well managed by its staff, who provided us with very good service.
Afternoon tea, served on the terrace overlooking the river, and featuring various options of henna painting, pottery and astrology is not to be missed. Due to its location, the hotel restaurant serves only vegetarian food, and is alcohol free. The hotel is up-front about this, and the food was very good.
One downside is the view from the rooms, as only a few of them, not including ours, have a river view.
Overall the stay was very good, although expensive, but the price reflects the position of the hotel, and for this reason it represents good value for its easy access to the various religious sites

If youve heard about Brijrama then let me tell you, it will live up to the hype. Right in the middle of the Varanasi ghats, Brijrama is best experienced holistically rather than as a hotel to stay and explored Banaras. If youre going in the summer or winter (not in the monsoon when the river swells up and the ghats are closed) you will be spoilt by their boat staff. Varanasi is best experienced ghat hopping via boats otherwise the gullis will eat you up and Brijrama has plenty of boats and boat staff available and they manage the logistics beautifully so that you never have to wait more than 10 mins. The boat staff is really the feather in their cap, they will maneuver the boats in such a fashion that it is a landmark experience in itself. Always ready to take you around and each one has a story to tell about Banaras and its various ghats and temples. You can get lost in a gully and call up someone to pick up you and rest assured they will be there. You could be overburned with shopping in Gaudolia Market and someone will be there to escort you.
We were helped by Mansi to create an itinerary for our trip right there during checkin and she told us the pit falls and forbidden experiences and the open and closing timings of temples and the best way to deal with all of this logsitically and it was the backbone of our trip .
The hotel spa is one of best I have experienced and all their therapists are very versed. Lookout for Ching, Anu and Sanjay as I can personally recommend them and Shada at the spa reception to move things around for you along with a pleasant conversation. You will not have to brave the streets for iconic Banarasi concepts like Paan , Malaiyo and Chaat or even gangajal as they provide it you in one of complimentary hotel activities. The kitchen and housekeeping (special mention to neeraj on our floor who tirelessly refilled our snacks) will also spoil you with namkeen and sweets in the comfort of your room . The hotel invites the best artists from the city to fill your day with culture. There will be sitar session, flute session, kathak dance , mehendi/henna (special mention to priyanka) , ganga aarti by boat , astrologer , geeta reading and i dont even know how much more taking place at any time in the hotel.
The entire staff is extremely courteous and will take all the time in the world to ensure your safety and comfort right from the security who greets you everytime you enter , the dinig team, the housekeeping team , the lobby team .
My only regret is not booking more nights because i was expecting to spend time in kashi instead of enjoying the hotel.

smack dab in the center of the chaos. Once you step in their walls and sense of calm overcomes you. Room large, decent shower, tv, good wifi, nice bed, great view of river, Large menu, food decent, staff very friendly. They do a nice job with simple entertainment and offerings. Arrive to hotel via river boat. Hotel in great area to go for a walk into alleyways, and along the river. Would suggest want to stay on Ganges and then this would be the place to stay.

I recently visited Brijrama Palace with my mother to celebrate her 65th birthday, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary.
From the warm reception at the taxi to the serene boat ride from the ghat to the hotel, every moment was thoughtfully curated to make us feel truly special. The elaborate check-in process, complete with a traditional welcome by a pundit, added a unique and memorable touch.
The attention to detail extended to the thoughtful gifts awaiting us in the room—a beautifully crafted kalash of Gangajal and a brocade laptop cover. These small yet meaningful gestures added a personal and heartwarming touch to our stay.
The breakfast was a celebration of authentic Benarasi flavors, featuring delights like fluffy pooris and the heavenly malaiyo—a true gastronomic treat. The staff's warmth and attentiveness further enhanced the experience, ensuring every need was met with care and hospitality.
The hotel's location is unparalleled, offering breathtaking views and proximity to the city's spiritual heart. However, the highlight of our stay was the enchanting boat ride and the front-row view of the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti at night—a moment of sheer magic that left us in awe.
This visit to Brijrama Palace was a perfect blend of heritage, luxury, and spirituality, creating memories we will cherish forever.

It’s an old palace property that has been renovated, it’s got the best location as it’s situated on the Ganga where all the action is if you are visiting Banaras. The biggest advantage is that everything is walking distance away or a boat ride and that’s complimentary as otherwise you could be stuck for hours in the chaotic traffic of the city. It’s an expensive property with room rates of over 50k a night and after paying that you would expect the rooms to be lavish as most heritage or palace properties in India are but here the rooms are really small and very basic. The food here is below average considering the city has some outstanding food places. The staff is just excellent and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and more than makes up for the other issues that I mentioned earlier. If it’s your 1st visit then you must stay here as you really get the vibe of the city staying on the ghats of the Ganges .

Fabulous experience. From pickup to drop off - just amazing people - great service - excellent vegetarian food. Awesome ambience. The hotel priest took us around to the temples and the artis - just an amazing guy. The front desk is amazing just as the housekeeping staff as well as the restaurant staff. Special shout out to Khushi at the front desk. The hotel helped organize our tours - was amazing. The boat staff too from pick up to the river trips along the Ganges and then drop off - all extremely courteous and helpful. Highly recommend staying here. The room could feel a little small, however the rest of the experience compensates well for the same. All 3 artis are a must-do (evening arti when viewed from the river, evening arti when viewed from land and then the dawn arti - all a must do. Just one thing to be cautious about - when you do the evening arti viewed from the river - please wear dark clothes - soot from the diesel smoke from 100s of boats can dirty lighter clothing). Also, the Sarnath excavation site where Buddha preached his first sermons is a lovely meditative experience.

No possibilities to bring alcohol near and into the hotel, but I highly recommend you Guleria Kothi at Ganges, 5 mn by boat from Brijrama , really nice place to have dinner outside and alcohol .
Bad memory of Brijrama
Call Dilip Singh the front office manager on +91 7390-850072. He is very helpful . Since you arrive by boat , there are only 2 or 3 steps to climb to get to the lift . I am sure that will nit be an issue . Even if you decide not to travel around the nearby gaalis and ghats, just sitting on the terrace or on your balcony watching the river is a great experience . I hope it works out and your Dad has a great time .
There are more places to choose from in the Varanasi area.
