Stayed here for 4 nights and do have some mixed feelings about my stay. The start was really bad with getting a cottage in the corner of the corner... from the porch I looked on a wall. The bed had insect stains on it. In the middle of the night al alternative cottage had to be arranged.
Pros: - very friendly staff; - nice garden and cottages with some privacy; - free airport transfer.
Cons: - had somebody went into my cottage when in the shower in the evening; - breakfast can only be ordered in advance and when they deliver it in the morning it should be brought in immediately. Just walked inside to get a shirt and when I came back there was a stray cat eating from my breakfast so it could all be thrown away. Would be good to knock on the door before all is set on the table and not when everything is there and the bill just needs to be signed. Also it would help to just cover with some foil; - hot water has to run for ages to get hot and absolutely no water pressure so prepare to wash yourself under a amall spurt of water.
Of course Kuta is very touristy but do think that this was all a bit expensive for what I got.
No much to say other than a lovely, peaceful and very clean place to stay in the heart of Kuta. The huts look more traditional and are all separated by paths, plants and ponds. One of our favorites in Kuta without a doubt.
We enjoyed the privilege of a two weeks stay at Poppies this time and we loved every minute. Needless to mention all the good things since they all have been described in previous reviews. The majority of people at Poppies that we met are guests who are returning regularily during many years as we do. Of course has the hotel undergone a lot of renovations and updates but it never changed its spirit. If not for Poppies,Hotel and Restaurant and the lovely staff in both places , we would not stay in chaotic Kuta. Although just returned, we are already looking forward to come back next year.
My husband and I stayed 2 nights at poppies - 1 night after we got off a 9 hour flight and 1 night before we boarded a 9 hour flight. This hotel is by far the best place to stay to rest and recover both post and pre flying
Kuta is a super busy area, but step off the lane through a stone wall and you will be taken to paradise! This allows you to enjoy the craziness/shopping/night life of Kuta knowing you have a a little slice of paradise to step back into when it is time to rest.
Our biggest highlights from poppies were..
- the pool nestled within well manicured gardens - the amazing (and huge!) breakfast - easy communication both pre and during our stay - the service once we checked out! Our flight wasn’t until 11pm, and they were more than happy for us to store or bags all day, pop back and use their pool/changing rooms and take us to the airport at 8pm at no extra cost
Poppies is possibly the best place I have ever stayed (and I have travelled extensively). It’s a beautiful little haven in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Kuta. The cottages are spacious, clean and comfortable, with lovely touches like locally sourced kimonos and toiletries. Each cottage has a terrace and is surrounded by jungle so it’s peaceful and relaxing. We booked a room for 2 nights via their website which included breakfast (served to our room) and a free 1hr massage each. The pool area is wonderful - surrounded by bourgainvilleas and lots of other plants you forget you’re in Kuta. Well worth the price and would definitely go back without hesitation.
After nearly four decades Poppies is still being discovered by those wishing to escape the glitz and glamour of grandiose hotels while expecting comfortable clean surroundings, friendly service, and …MoreBalinese charm. Spacious individual thatched cottages filled with collectors' antiques, Indonesian fabrics and a host of creature comforts nestle in beautifully kept gardens with ponds, waterfalls, towering coconut palms, and a stunning swimming pool built among rocks and sunbathing terraces, overhung with riotous bougainvillea. Hello TheSaws, we've stayed at Poppies four times with our children. Any of the rooms can be arranged in a way to accomodate the two children, one on a roll away bed the other on the lounge which converts to a bed, and our boys loved Poppies. It's a safe and friendly place and they will love the pool.
