The Hampton Inn & Suites Albany-Downtown generally receives praise for its comfortable rooms and cleanliness, with many guests appreciating the attentive and helpful service provided by the staff. Despite some criticism regarding the dated decor and occasional maintenance issues, the hotel's amenities, including a full breakfast and fitness center, are favorably viewed.
However, the mandatory valet parking fee and the overall costs are noted as drawbacks by some travelers. The central location is a highlight, with convenient access to downtown attractions and the MVP arena.

Hotel's Favourite
This year to get from Montreal to Washington DC, I took a bus to Albany and then a train to Washington from there. Usually I stay at the Holiday Inn as it’s right next to the bus station when I travel this way between the 2 cities but this year that hotel was fully booked at my time of travel. The Hampton Inn however was available and was perfectly satisfactory with efficient check-in and a decent breakfast with egg, meat and starch options. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean. Uber works
well in Albany from the bus station to the hotel and from the hotel to the train station. I also enjoyed walking outside in the morning and seeing the handsome old church right in front.

I stayed here while I was in town for a concert at the MVP Arena. I checked in late and through the app so when I arrived I went straight to my room. The next morning I had the free breakfast and asked the front desk about my free water and snack since I'm a Gold Member and I was able to pick those up. I went to the gym while I was there and it's spacious and had Lysol wipes to wipe down the equipment and water. I like how in the breakfast area and gym the cups for the water/juice were individually wrapped.
I enjoyed my stay and would stay here again. Also, during these times they're not cleaning rooms unless requested, I didn't have a problem with this as I was only there for two nights.

I booked a king suite.
The room was nice but an odd layout and tight space by the bed.
With COVID there was little open at near the hotel, there was a couple of bars and restaurants nearby but not much else.
No kettle in the room but hot water and coffee available in the lobby.
I’d probably stay at the Hilton up the road next time.
Uber from the Amtrak station was about $12

We arrived 11/30/19 mid night 3 AM as a family and so tired and ready to stay in our two rooms. Front desk gave us two totally dirty and messy rooms which have not been cleaned at all on 5 th floor so we had to come all way down and asked why that happened. It’s sketchy cos the rooms smelled really bad and we thought we walked into rooms that someone was in there. Ruined our night. The front desk apologized and almost couldn’t find clean room. Therefore we talked about how to compensate that super bad experience, and front desk lady staff agreed to waive the $75 pet fee for my bill for my tiny dog.
She mentioned that she will keep the pet record for housekeeping purpose but she will take it off later from my bill. However of course later I noticed that on my bank statement the $75 pet fee has been officially charged within the room rate.
I called at least 5 times since last year and talked to different staffs in this hotel. The manger never pick up the phone. The front desk said they don’t have power to refund and asked me to talk to manager. Then stopped picking up phone. Dead end. Please talk to the manager and that lady staff and confirm and refund ASAP. One name I talked to I remember he is Nor.

My reason for coming was to test the Digital Key feature since my wife and I are both over 70 and with comorbidities and need to be ultra cautious in order to avoid COVID.
The digital key only worked, not when we needed it prior to arriving at the hotel BUT the next morning after we had spent the night there. We had to resort to visit to the front desk, stand there about 1/2 hour as they tried to sort out the digital key mess. This never worked so in disgust I said before I fall asleep here in the lobby just issue me a plastic key for our room. Being in the lobby , being there for a prolonged period were fails on the part of this hotel and chain in COVID times. I consider their big ad campaign about how safe it is in COVID times bunk. Really lies. Unreliable program that no one can trust.
I can’t imagine being more disappointed for a Hilton Honors member who has used Hamptons all over the country in the last few years.
This was a massive snafu. They owe me an apology.

I’ll start with our experience with Mike…the guy needs a promotion! He is the sweetest and most kind valet parking attendant. Greeted us with a smile, and helped us each and every second of our stay. As we were leaving, he saw us and asked how our stay was and how we slept. Felt like we have known him for years. Definitely looking forward to seeing him again in the future! Makes staying at the Hampton inn that much more wonderful. The room was unremarkably clean, our 4 year old loved the breakfast bar in the morning, and very quiet on the 8th floor, just what we needed ☺️.

Comfortable hotel with an excellent reception team.
The rooms were of a high standard with all the amenities that you would expect.
Breakfast was included and had a good selection of hot and cold items including an excellent selection of fruit.

My friend and I stayed for the weekend visiting our college for homecoming. Our introduction to the hotel went OKAY. The ambiance is grand and the parking options were not expensive and readily available. They offer comp coffee and tea in the lobby which was very pleasant to have when arriving. The lobby was very clean and had several different areas for you to sit down at and chill when getting settled in.
Here is where we had a problem. Though I understand that booking through third parties can cause problems at check in, the front desk did not thoroughly read through our reservation. They failed to assess the virtual credit card provided in a correct manner and authorized my card for the full amount. They pushed us to call the third party to dispute the charge before trying to make an extra effort to see if there is any solution that they can provide. This is a huge NO. Being that I work at a front desk at another hotel in the city, I understand the pressure and troubles that comes with checking people in. However it is still NO EXCUSE for not being thorough. On top of that the front desk at check in was extremely robotic and not understanding of my questions in terms of the authorization. You have to be able to put yourself in the shoes of the guest and I could not see and ounce of empathy from the staff at check in.
Moving on, the room was clean. The bathrooms were nice, we had a very pleasant view, the beds were mildly comfortable and the pillows could use some work if I’m being honest. The room was solid overall though and I had a good nights rest due to how delightfully quiet it was.
At check out Zach and Christal were extremely helpful. They managed to solve our problem that occurred at check in. When I told Christal the problem she said “Let me handle that for you,” and that is EXACTLY what you want to hear. Zach joined in and explained the dilemma. Before you know our problem is solved. Thank you for making the extra effort. Above and beyond.
Hotels always run into problems and mistakes happen. That is inevitable. It’s their ability to be able to solve these problems is what makes the difference between a good hotel and a bad one. This weekend I stayed at a good hotel. I will be back and will not book through a third party!

Stayed here four nights between the holidays and it was a great value for the price. Extremely close to the Palace Theater for a concert and McGeary's Iris Pub around the corner for great beers and sandwiches! Incredible fruit water in lobby offered most of the day and the breakfast buffet (pre-COVID obviously) was the among the best I have seen. The beautiful lobby was welcoming each morning when we came down to eat, as well as the front desk staff. The only negative I have is the fact that when it snowed/rained the roof (we were on the top floor) leaked a little and all that was offered by management when I complaiined was to switch rooms, which we did not want to do after having decorated ours for the holidays and staying several nights in the room we were in. Surely something else could have been offered. That is management's fault and not the employees. Otherwise, a beautiful trip.

Beware! The breakfast is free, as usual, but the parking costs $18, which is not mentioned when you are making reservations. This is a large hotel, quite different from most Hampton Inns, which almost always get four-star ratings for me. I took off for the paid parking. Quiet and comfortable. The housekeepers did not check the TV remote before they left, so it had dead batteries. My wife went down to the front desk in her pajamas to get them replaced. On the positive side, the clerk gave us a discount on the parking! We had dessert and coffee at DP's, a nice restaurant on the ground floor that is a plus.

Dear John J,
We are aware of the allegations and share your concern. At this stage, the hotel is working diligently with both local and federal authorities to determine where the video was allegedly filmed in 2015 and who was responsible for the illegal recording and posting. The hotel recently was renovated in 2016, and no recording devices of any nature were discovered at that time. Since the incident was brought to our attention, we have taken a number of proactive steps to ensure guest safety and to assist our team in doing the same. We will continue to work with law enforcement until the perpetrator is caught and brought to justice.
Regards,
M. Hemmid
General Manager
I found the hotel security to be first rate. Vigilance was apparent in each staff member including maid service. Each staff person appeared genuinely happy to be present and invested in their position which is focused on each individual traveler. I can only believe that the unfortunate incident cited is outside the control and oversight of any hotel. I appreciate the fear but this incident is beyond anyone's control.
Generally 30-45 minutes depending on time of day and traffic
There are many closer hotels to airport but further from downtown
Don’t know. . Agree with those who said call hotel.
Not at the hotel itself, however, there are plenty of restaurants nearby that offer al fresco dining as well as nearby parks and if you’d like a look at the best music venue ever, you can view the outside of the Egg from Empire Plaza. Only a short walk from the Hampton
