Whilst the lake offers excellent views, walking, recreational and dining opportunities, recognise the hotel is a 10-minute taxi ride from the historical city itself. When we were there on the weekend, it was full of families with young children - so very noisy, especially in the pool area for which extra payment is needed to access. The room was somewhat small, but the beds comfortable. I liked the bowling alleys!

Very nice staff, large bedroom, superbe buffet for breakfast and dinner. BUT be aware that it is not possible to eat after 7.30pm/8pm (like in many places in Korea)
There a large indoor swimming pool. Good spa. Good location, free parking facilities,

This lux hotel is a modern accommodation in an ancient city of Gyeongju. Love the rooms and the clean facility. Only 2 hours by KTX bullet train from Seoul, it is refreshing property from the hustle and bustle of the Seoul city. After running around all day seeing the historical sights in Gyeongju, it’s refreshing to come back to the modern Lahan hotel! Love the food court like restaurants. The Spa -Thai message was amazing! It was best ever and highly recommended after long day of sight seeing! I will definitely stay again at this hotel!

This would be 3* in Europe. They try to force you to have their Buffet dinner (£60 a head), alternative is a canteen style self serve and clear away street market in a dark area. Not all food options open, staff rude. Breakfast again expensive, no alternative at all, not even a cup of coffee is sold before 10.30am, room service is unavailable until same time and kettle in our room did not work. Receptionists extremely unhelpful.

Location location location!
Lahan is located lakeside on Bomun-ro lake.
The rooms are spacious and clean.
The staff is very, very helpful and friendly.
There’s a walking path around the lake with access to lots of restaurants, cafes etc.
Plus there’s live entertainment around the lake on evenings.
I would definitely recommend this hotel- price is reasonable as well.

stayed at hotel hyundai 2 night at the end of august and can only compliment on their professionalism and positive attitude.....i had a voucher for one free night at the hotel....after check in which was very smooth we found the A/C in our room not working too well....within 5 min 2 staff members were at the door to check....within another 2 min they offered another room on the executive floor which they would cool down for us before we moved in....and so they did....they sent a porter up for the luggage and the entire affair was solved very quickly and more importantly very professionally...we found that every member of staff was extremely polite and greeted me with excellent english (i probably was the only foreigner in the hotel and english skill is not one of koreas strong points)...the hotel has a lot of outlets for dining and entertainment and even includes a 12 lane bowling place...the view from the lakeview deluxe room is fantastic and unobstructed....the rooms might need a little repaint and touch ups but they are quite comfortable and the friendly staff makes up for it....ask to be put on the 11th or 12th floor...those rooms have nicer furniture and seem to be less used....

Totally disappointed. Hyundai hotel is supposed to be a top quality hotel in the area, but the service that my family received was terrible. Our experience began at the moment of arrival.
The attended doorman complained that my father, a septuagenarian, is too slow to get off the car and our family's vehicle is blocking the driveway. He is in his mid-to-late 70s and it was even a half a minute for him to get off the car. Yes, he just said that with folded arms, and didn't even try to help my father.
I was told that you should be driving either Mercedez S or Bentley in order to get greeted by doormen in Korea - I didn't believe it but now I have a doubt that it may be true.
Another discontentment came from the hotel's coffee shop. We were a party of seven, and two out of the seven didn't feel like having coffee. So we ordered five cups. The waiter said it is a strict "hotel policy" that everyone seated in the table should order at least one drink per person. One of us adamantly refused to order, then the waiter that you are violating the hotel policy. We didn't continue to fight back and ended up paying 70 something dollars for five insipid coffees.
I strongly advise that in order to get a real help service at this hotel, you should be waving a 10k KRW bill gesturing that you are going to give them a handsome tip for a normal service... such as holding the door.

Response from gyeongjuhotel, 제너럴 매니저 at Lahan Select Gyeongju
Responded May 29, 2019
Dear Our Guest I apologize for the inconvenience you and your father felt. There is no falsehood in your review. There was an incorrect service, but there would be no wrong hotel. We confirmed which staff provided such rudeness and failed service, and shared the content. Through these reviews and feedback from our guest like you, we hope that our hotel will be turned back and changed to a desirable and good hotel a little earlier. We are planning a new renewal in June. We'll be working on the renewal for a long time, almost a year. Of course, I am sure that through construction, we will improve not only in appearance but also in food and beverage services. But what we want more than anything else is that we hope the zeal of employees who are willing to offer reasonable prices and services will be educated and nurtured. We look forward to your next visit with more satisfactory facilities through this construction. My excuse for apologizing for your displeasure was too late. But as I wrote here, I wanted to thank you once again for your honest review. Thank you very much. The most sincere greetings!

This is my family’s first time to visit Gyeongju. My kids are born and wanted to visit Gyeongju to learn about ancient Shilla culture. The hotel locations is good. As you get to the hotel, you expect a bellboy to recieve your luggages and welcomes you. The bellboy never showed up. We had to carry our own luggages. Reception staff doesn’t do a minimum effort to satify your needs. I guess he is not trained well. Our next trip to Gyeongju, this hotel will not be in our list to be selected. One important thing. The room hasn’t have a safe box.

I recently completed a 1 week conference in Gyeongju. A year ago I stayed in the Hilton. This time I stayed in the Hyundai. If you are a business person, I think these are your only two options, unless you really like mobs of families with small children running through the lobby. If that is the case, then you have lots of other hotels that will meet that need for you. Here is my comparison of the Hyundai vs the Hilton:

Both are big, nice, have basically the same shops and restaurants. The Hyundai is actually bigger, and a little more "grand" because of the spiral staircases. The Hilton has one or two more "fine dining" options, but they always looked pretty empty. Both have almost identical buffet restaurants they serve basically the same international menu for breakfast and dinner. The Hyundai has a pretty cool ice cream bar on the lower level, while the Hilton has a small bakery with cakes, etc.

As for rooms, the Hilton is newer and the room was "fresher". But the room at the Hyundai was physically a little bigger. One downside to the Hyundai this time was that they had shut down the air-conditioning system for the season and had already shifted everything over to heat only. My room faced south and west and it got pretty hot. Te manager said they would put a portable A/C unit in my room if I really wanted it, but it wasn't bad enough to ask them to do it.

Facilities-wise, both are about the same. Nice gym, sauna, etc. The equipment in the Hilton is a little newer and a notch higher in quality.

As for location, both are on the lake and the walking path that circles it. If you are attmeding an event at the HICO, the Hilton is just across the street (3-5 minutes). The Hyundai is an additional 20 minutes of brisk walking further away. I like to walk, so it didn't bother me. It also didn't rain the whole time I was there. If it had, it would have been a long and wet hike every day. Although they have plenty of taxis. On the positive side, the Hyundai is further away from the theme park and the busy road, so there is less traffic and people.

Bottom line - the Hilton is a bit newer and nicer, but also more expensive. So if I was going to take my family and pay for the hotel with my own money, I would probably chose the Hyundai. It is still quite nice, and a better value (in my opinion)
- Value - I would give the edge to the Hyundai

Make sure to ask for the price of every single thing that is not the furniture in your room when you are staying here. The hotel charges and overcharges without notice for everything imaginable. As guests, we entered the pool area, we got charged 20,000 won with no notice or warning after being asked for our room number. Going to the downstairs cafe, our order of two single espressos was rewarded with a bill of 26,000 won after no menu was presented or on the table.

Never have I been charged this much for this, not at the St Regis in New York City, the Hyatt in Tokyo, nowhere, space flight, nowhere.

Then when we asked the manager for adjustments for this, awkward when you don't really speak the same language, we were told it was a "cultural difference" why we didn't understand the prices and that these were Korean rules.

No, Hyundai Hotel, cultural differences don't change how you serve guests honestly. And Koreans nowhere else in this country are out to get foreigners like your hotel is. It's not Korea, it's you.

Hotel has been partially renovated. Although daily housekeeping keeps the rooms clean, some old carpets may show discolourations. I would not concern about t he cleanness in general. You can always talk to the front staff for any issues. They seem very attentive and act quickly for guests.

Yes there is a bus just outside the hotel which goes within a 5 minute walk of the historical sites.

Use a taxi, its not too expensive, on the rare occasion that we used the city buses, you need to be very careful when getting on and off them as they tend to drive too fast, and carrying luggage would be quite traumatic.
