Our stay here was way too short! Only stayed for a night but what a lovely space tucked away from the madness of the city.
The rooms are spacious and beautifully done. The finishes are simple and elegant. The rooms come equipped with a tea station, air conditioning and hot water. The garden is dotted with fruit and flower trees and home to a pool for those refreshing breaks from the sun.
The food was delicious. Nelson cooked us a fabulous dinner of spicy deviled cuttlefish and steamed rice and we were treated with a substantial breakfast the next morning.
Alexandra and Nelson are wonderful hosts. They are always on hand to help but not intrusive. Loved the story of how they put the place together and tending their magnificent garden. They handle everything by themselves and this ensures perfection.
I have to mention the other wonders of the place -it’s a home to four dogs and three cats. All with their own distinct personalities and names. For a dog lover who has no pets at home, it’s a perfect place to connect with our four legged friends.
Would love to visit again and wish nothing but the best for Alexandra and Nelson!

We had two weeks to enjoy the warm hospitality of Alexandra and Nelson. The (desired) food was freshly bought in the morning and incredibly well prepared and served in the evening. The service staff were always in the background but always there if you needed a cushion, mosquito repellent or a drink, the rooms shone every day :)... our hosts were always available for excursions, tuk tuks, ideas, tips and tricks... it rained a lot (monsoon season), but the morning breakfast (in all varieties) and the pool (at 30 degrees) made up for it... from there you can walk to the beautiful beach bar or take a tuk tuk (1.5€) to the next big town or to the train station (we traveled third class and with our 1.9m height we were immediately able to talk to everyone)... Nelson also organized tuk tuks and mopeds for us to drive ourselves... the complex itself is a dream... we will definitely come back again at some point

Needed a couple of days R&R and booked La Perla on a recommendation. Its been a hard couple of years for the hospitality industry and a lot of establishments have not kept up with improvements or maintenance and its difficult to find those who have.
All I can say is what an absolutely delight it was to stay here. Firstly, the hosts Nelson and Alex are so warm friendly accommodating and welcoming, and then later discovered what a great cook Nelson is.
They have 5 individual bungalows, two of which have just been built. We stayed in one of these which was very clean, spacious and modern with a traditional twist with a good sized bathroom. There was a lovely outdoor veranda with casual seats and a low table area as well as a table/chairs that you could, if you choose to have meals at your bungalow.
The gardens which the bungalows are set in are lovely and peaceful a perfect place to have a dip in the pool and sit and relax.
Breakfast was excellent such a relaxing way to start the day, but if you decided to eat here of an evening you will not be disappointed with the menu on offer. Nelson cooked us some delicious fish dishes which got high praise from my other half which believe me is not an easy feat to get. We just let him surprise us and we were not disappointed. But again it was so relaxing having a chilled bottle of wine and some G&T at very reasonable prices.
I also must mention the staff here, each and every one was so lovely to chat to and were very helpful. They were always tending or cleaning and keeping everything looking great.
You can do a few tours with Nelson in the family tuk tuk which we did to go to Brief Garden, a great time out and an interesting place to visit then stopped off for some lunch in town. Nelson even hunted down a shop for an item I was looking for, what a guy.
The gorgeous empty beach is just over the road and railway track from La Perla, and a new beach bar/restaurant has opened called The Waves which also provides sun loungers, a great place to also watch the sunset then back in time for dinner at La Perla. Between these 2 you really don’t need to go anywhere else its a great spot to be in.
I had no issue with the infrequent trains passing and did not bother us in the slightest. There are family pets who will let you know who’s boss when you arrive, but they stay out of your way and are in no way bothersome.
So would I recommend a stay and would I return, absolutely! Turned out to be a very restful and relaxing if all to short break, thanks to Alex and Nelson and all the staff for your wonderful hospitality, see you soon…..

For us, La Perla was the start and end point of a wonderful "sister vacation" in Sri Lanka!
We actually came across this gem in Bentota by chance, but from the first moment of contact with Alexandra we were totally impressed by the cordiality and warmth with which we were treated as "strangers". She worked out a wonderful, perfectly organized 10-day tour of Sri Lanka for us. We spent the first nights in La Perla and were warmly welcomed by Nelson with the words: "You come as guests and leave as friends." And that's exactly how it was! Words cannot describe how quickly a wonderfully warm relationship with the entire team developed. Nelson does his job with passion and you can feel that in every little detail: he cooks incredibly well (and plentifully), treats his staff as equals, has a heart for animals, and has created an oasis in his complex where you can relax and feel comfortable.
The rooms are lovingly furnished, spacious, and are decorated with flowers every day. Here, too, as everywhere, the attention to detail is reflected!
Numerous excursion tips, arrangement of reliable tuk-tuk drivers (Jimmy), car drivers (Samantha) and, last but not least, a day trip with Nelson himself and his own tuk-tuk to the region around Bentota... we have never experienced anything like this on vacation! Sri Lanka will remain an unforgettable, very special vacation for us, one that we will fondly remember.
Nelson, Alexandra: you are doing a wonderful job! Keep it up!
We will see each other again and are already looking forward to lovely evenings with you on the terrace!
And one more thing: anyone who compares Nelson's cuisine with a cheap restaurant on the main road and thinks the prices are overpriced should be slapped in the face! People... here you really do get "star cuisine" and not fast food... please think about what you post here beforehand!

We stayed here for 4 nights and had food on days 3 and 4. Nelson cooked us a prawn curry and a chicken curry on the first night. I think I had about 16 king prawns in my curry! Tasty wonderful. We asked for Tiger prawns, a tuna steak, and seafood rice for the second night. Just ridiculously tasty. My partner said it was the best tuna steak she had ever had, and my prawns were incredible, as was the seafood rice. I think the tuna was £13 and £17 for my prawns. Incredible value
Our air con broke for a few hours due to a gekko wandering into the machine and getting fried!!! It was sorted in a couple of hours, so really pleased with that
Nelson and his staff are very attentiv3 and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there

It was so relaxing and peaceful at La Perla. There are currently three separate 'bungalows' which are large and bright with a private terrace onto the beautiful garden. They are finished in a stylish and minimilist way with an excellent shower room. There is a kettle and tea bags were provided on request. The extensive, quiet beach is over the railway line and a road... there is a convenient beach bar with sun loungers and toilets. Floating about in the pool amongst the huge variety of garden plants brought me the tranquility I was looking for. Nelson is an excellent chef and all the food was delicious and beautifully presented.

I was in this hotel with my husband, my daughter and her boyfriend. Please read a review before mine (Jacqueline Lattner) in which everything is described. Nelson publicly portrays us as liars and claims in the comments that we never stayed there. That's why I'm posting the invoice here again, signed BY NELSON on January 9th.
It's really a disgrace that Nelson uses such methods to hide the negative aspects of his accommodation. He also showed this in the accommodation: unfortunately he is unable to take criticism and a very unpleasant side comes to light. We don't normally write negative reviews, but we really want to advise against this hotel. If you look through the negative reviews of his accommodation, you'll see that a few people had the same experience as us. It's a shame that Nelson is unable to take criticism and doesn't care at all about the satisfaction of his customers - his only priority is more money. It's a shame that this paradise has such an owner.

Located within the stunning south west coast of Sri lanka, with its sandy beaches and blue waters, the jungle is but a stone throw behind the beach, nestled in it you'll find La Perla, truely a home away from home, in this wonderland of jaw dropping scenery and natural acoustics.
This guesthouse is hosted by a wonderful couple; Nelson & Alexandra who have years of experience in operating and managing restaurants, this experience in hosting and entertaining their lucky guests is immediately felt and appreciated, for us from the moment Nelson came to welcome us at the gate we felt like family, welcomed and in good hands.
The simple yet elegant design of the space calms you down and their attention to detail shows in everything built and made by the couple, while the specious landscaping of their beautiful garden adds comfort and serenity to the experience, the cherry on top is actually a special hidden pearl! that is; Nelson's finger licking delicious dishes made with love and care, slowly turning the fresh produce into some of the best food we've ever had.
We couldn't have picked a better place to stay, amazing scenery, all the comforts of home, helpful friendly hosts that go out of their way to accommodate their guests and provide them with everything they need. In fact we loved it here so much we have already came back for a 2nd visit before I had the time to post this review and we already plan to go back for our third time in few weeks.
Over and beyond; Nelson and Alexandra took the time to take us on tours to the local market and to nearby villages showing us how the people of the land truly lived, away from all the city life and tourism influences.
La Perla is located within a min walk from the beach all that separates it from the beach is the railways track and the road, which is the case in most locations around the coast of Sri lanka, as for the train every time it passes you feel transported in place and time to a magical world where you soon forget all your worries and one is left feeling relaxed, content and simply put joyful.
