Detailed Reviews
The Hotel is unexpectedly off the main road so hidden from view but that is deceptive for, the it is placed in a delightful spot overlooking the Indian Ocean on the one side and the Ramparts of the Galle Fort, on the other. It is a boutique type hotel but rooms are large with sumptuous bathrooms with Japanese style toilets.
There are also a splendid Spa and an equally splendid pool. Although I never sampled the gym, it looked very well equipped and popular.
The Ayurvedic Spa offers excellent service. Achini, the lady who attended to me was superb.
The pool was a relief from the usual odd shaped, Impossible to swim in type of pools that usually adorn hotels, with the length and breath conducive to a serious work out in the water and a shallow end for the safety of children.
The range of food served in the restaurant was good and definitely in the 3/ 4 star category.
A definite plus was it’s own, private beach! With steps leading down from the pool area, one has the use of a small bay which is not used by outsiders simply because of its location.
All in all, I would certainly recommend this hotel for a change from the better known bigger hotels and the more expensive ones inside the Fort.

The best part of this hotel is the incredible breakfast buffet and the people who work there. The Sri Lankan breakfast is outstanding. They have other “European” food, but I don’t understand why anyone would go to Sri Lanka to have toast and an omelette for breakfast. It was incredible. Now the other best part of the hotel are the people who work there. Friendly, helpful and seem to genuinely care about the guests. Two people should win the outstanding service award (if there is such a thing). On of the front desk team, Shadeesh and a server in the restaurant - Buddhika. See attached pics of these wonderful young men. They were service oriented, like most of Sri Lanka, but put in the extra time and care. We got lots of extra coconut sambal, which we ate by the bowlful, and great conversation and belly aching laughs! These guys are funny, charming and made our stay so much better. The hotel is good, although we had come from some amazing places, so this felt overpriced based on where we’d been. The rooms are decent sized, comfortable beds and pillows, clean and Enough space to move about. We ordered an extra bed and that was more comfortable than you’d expect. We had a lovely balcony too. A few things the hotel could do to improve: figure out the bathroom door. It is so heavy like a fire door and does not stay open. That was supper annoying. Also, give guests more bottled water. We need it for coffee, tea and teeth brushing, so one bottle per person, day just doesn’t work. Don’t make your guests go to the grocery store for water when you are charging that much for rooms. The tea in the room was great and the toilets futuristic Japanese toilets with auto wash and dry!
We bought some small paintings and a ring from the gift shop - more friendly, wonderful service. Going out of his way to help us!
To sum it up - give Shadeesh and Buddhika a raise, they made our stay great and we’ll tell others about it because of their hospitality. And don’t ever stop serving that amazing Sri Lankan breakfast food!!! Oh and lovely views of the Fort and ocean. I would recommend this hotel!

When we start from the first contact, Chamika at Front office was the first person who picked up our inquiry and handled it till the Check-out we should appreciate the service and commitment devoted by him to make a positive experience throughout the our stay.
We were able to capture really nice photographs to our wedding album in the Legrand.
Front office staff was kind enough to arrange the early check-in & late check-out and Housekeeping staff also accommodate all of our requests without any delays.
F&B staff were really friendly and professional, Quality & taste of foods exceeded the expectations and Breakfast buffet had good spread with varieties of local and western foods.
Room is spacious and modern overlooking the indian ocean with the view of Galle Dutch fort. Rooms in 2nd & 3rd floor has the best view starting from #2** , #3** series
Highly recommend for a relaxing and peaceful vacation

Le grand hotel has been a rollercoaster of disappointments right from the moment of check-in. So much so that I’m writing this as I’m having lunch even before checking out.
Me and my wife arrived at the hotel at around 3.30 in the afternoon and we were told the rooms were not ready. Not a big issue so we said we will wait. The problem is we had to wait for almost 30 minutes. Again, we did not complain and were shown to our room.
In the evening we requested some lime wedges to which we were flatly refused saying lime is not very easy to find these days 🤨. We ordered dinner to our room in the evening and since we arrived late, this was our first meal at the hotel. We both enjoyed the nasigoreng so we requested to have another. They happily obliged but then the waiter who brought the dish to our room asked us if we’re paying for it now or to add it to the room’s bill. Mind you this is at a (supposedly) 5-star hotel charging premium rates. For the price, we should be enjoying a buffet. They’ve conveniently avoided that too, thanks to COVID-19. On top of this, power outages were so frequent to the point that it became annoying. The last nail in the coffin came as the front desk insisted we vacate the room early even though we had asked for a late checkout before we even arrived. Judging by what the front desk told us, it seems one of the next arriving guests had “specifically requested” the room that we were staying in.
Hospitality is the last thing on the minds of the staff.
The only welcoming thing in this hotel is the automatic toilet seat that greets you when you walk in to do your business.
Never visiting again and I would advise anyone reading this to avoid this hotel too.
PS: Hats off to the chef! Food was excellent!

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights. We were looking for a quiet place to unwind, to do nothing, and just relax. This wonderful place was just what we needed!
From the time we arrived till our departure we felt a sense of tranquility! The atmosphere was so calm and relaxing. We didn't feel like we were in galle, let alone Sri Lanka. There's so much open space throughout added the ambiance. The tasteful lounge music was soothing us in all areas of the property, the pool, restaurant, the lobby even the garden. Every inch of the hotel seemed well maintained and cared for!
The food was delicious! The buffets spread was just large enough to enjoy the variety for both breakfast and dinner. But the A'La carte dinners/lunches were even better! We would look forward to the wonderful creations of Chef Sagara. The BLUE restaurant was another surprise. The amazing view, the unique rocks that seem to burst through the ground, the amazing breeze all added to the delicious feats we enjoyed there.
The rooms were equally satisfying. the ample space made us feel so free and relaxed. The lovely jacuzzi was a delight to enjoy. the comfy couches were perfect to lounge in. the bathrooms were well light with fitted with the latest technology. The beds were so comfortable and cosy! If not for our alarms we would have slept in all day!
The pool was just beautiful. it was always clean! The little rocky beach area was also a unique spot to take a dip in the sea!
The staff was just so friendly and helpful. they were always eager to help us and make us feel at home in every way! From the front office team(rajitha, chamika) to the F&B team (Viraj & Ajith). The house keeping staff was always checking if we had any extra requests and was happy to meet our every need! The service was truly 5 star!
Lastly, in regards to COVID protocols, I’m glad to see the food and common service areas were sanitized and distanced for safety.
I look forward to returning to this hidden gem soon!

We arrived at hotel and was greeted warmly by Upeka who explained everything and gave us some good tips for our holiday along with a beautiful watermelon juice. Our room was wonderful overlooking the sea and fort which Denish and Nuwan kept spotlessly clean and always kind. Best cleaners ever!
All of the staff were polite, friendly and always chatty which we loved from the security, cleaners, reception, gardeners and the most attentive restaurant and bar staff. In particular Manjula, Chamila and Thilak along with some great chefs. Always full of smiles and care for us which we were very happy and enjoyed our meals very much.
We had amazing meals and service was excellent and always impressed us with food made from scratch and a brilliant quality along with some lovely dishes. A few times the chef asked us what we would like which was a lovely gesture and food was presented to high standards and freshest of produce and always happy to accommodate our needs. Always good choices.
We have visited 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka now 4 times and in particular Upeka and Manjula made our stay a wonderful one. Sorry if we haven’t named some of you but it would be a great idea to have staff wearing name badges. Their thoughtful and helpful ways were outstanding.
We loved the location so we could walk to the fort and had some beautiful cocktails by Thilak and loved the views of the sunset ❤️
Thank you to all for making us so welcome and making beautiful memories in your hotel- it was amazing and definitely be back! We really felt part of your family and everyone works hard and delivers their best.
It’s been very difficult for everyone with covid but all Sri Lankan people are genuine , happy and are simply the best and everyone in the hotel treat us very well and gave us exceptional service and friendship
Highly recommend the hotel and its lovely spa - beautiful hotel
Thank you 🙏 #bestholiday #we❤️SriLanka

It was an amazing stay overall. The staff were friendly and efficient. As there was a delay in checking into the room due to sanitisation, we were provided with a complimentary cocktail from the pool bar. Food was good, and the room was spacious.

Oh dear, a drastically overpriced hotel surviving on waterfront location alone..
No welcome drink upon arrival, Sorry it will be sent to your room, never arrived.
One bathroom mirror was streaky and not cleaned, curtains dirty and badly stained, no replacement toilet rolls, no body lotion, only one small soap...this was throughout our 5 night stay.
Complained and the Manageress came to see us at the pool, have we resolved all you issue's, without even apologising..
Signage states no glass around the pool, yet everything was served in glass, even the refilled bottles of water which they charge $4 for, see pic, is this even legal ?
Had dinner for two in our room one night which came with one napkin, on our last night we had one bath towel..
The list goes on and on...needless to say, would never return !!

We were looking for a good boutique hotel in Galle to spend a quiet and relaxing time. We read the reviews about Le Grand Galle and decided to give it a try. The super deluxe room was modern, spacious, clean and had a great view of the sea. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful starting from the front desk to the restaurant. The food was excellent and delicious. The hotel took extra measures for covid by providing disposable gloves to guests when serving from the buffet. The atmosphere near the pool area was calm and relaxing with a beautiful view of the sea and the Galle Fort which is quite fitting for a holiday. We had an excellent experience and would definitely come again. Thank you to all the staff at Le Grand Galle for making it a memorable experience for us.

This is a top quality hotel, built into the rocky cliff on the seafront at Galle. Our stay here was faultless. The hotel is modern and spacious. Our room was huge, quiet and comfortable with every facility imaginable (even the loo had a remote control). We had a room in the West wing which I think are the deluxe rooms. The view from our secluded patio looked straight out to sea so we could enjoy sunset over the Indian Ocean from our patio every night. There's a large pool with an adjacent bar. There's a gym and a spa too. You have a choice of two restaurants: The 'Taste' restaurant near to reception, which is excellent, and then there's the 'Blue' restaurant which is more fine dining and la carte, literally built into the rocky cliff with fabulous ambience for dinner. The staff are absolutely wonderful - so friendly and so helpful. If you want to explore, You can walk from the hotel (or take a Tuk-Tuk) to Galle fort in just a few minutes and that's well worth a visit. The nearest beach is also a Tuk-Tuk ride away, although there are some steps in the hotel by the 'Blue' restaurant which will take you down to a rocky haven where you can paddle. Altogether a wonderful, top quality and peaceful stay.

Hi! We didn't travel with kids.... so I have no idea about the kids club. They don't have water slides..... but the hotel contains a huge swimming pool and there are jacuzzies in Premium rooms and Jacuzzi suites. Also they have Plunge Pool Suites.
Better you contact the hotel reservation team, they will definitely help you! Le Grand has a wonderful supportive, friendly staff.
Cheers!!!
I didn’t go to that restaurant but it appeared as though it was not wheelchair accessible. If you email the hotel I’m sure they can confirm either way.
Taxi service is available at the airport. You can also use Uber. I use a local version of Uber called Pick Me (download to your phone), which will cost you about US$12- for the ride (Rs.1,700 for the fare, plus Rs.300 for highway toll free, which you need to pay, at the toll). If you are going to be in Colombo for a while, you may want to pick up a tourist SIM card, at the Dialog Mobile Phone counter (as you clear customs, same area where you can exchange money and the taxi counter is)
The hotel has an extremely small private beach, no longer than 50m. It is accessed via stone steps from where the pool is located. No sun beds, except by poolside).
This beach is more of a feature, located within its own mini rock bay so the tides are not hard hitting. So I think you can wade in the water if the green flag is up (but check with hotel) but not really a beach to spend a few hours or the whole day in.
Did not really explore other beaches in Galle during our stay, but the hotel do have connections with various water sport companies, some of which may be on beaches close by. Apologies if this is not the answer you were looking for.
