In the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onward. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 423 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.

Stayed here for a weekend. The hotel is nicely located in the Fort, and has a surprisingly spacious area with ample car parking within the property. We got a free upgrade to the suite which was a nice touch as well. The suite is spacious with a small sitting room, large bedroom area with two double beds (ideal for a small family) and a decent sized bathroom with shower and bathtub. The beds are comfortable, there are plenty of pillows and the AC units work very well which is welcome in the relentless heat when the sun is out. There is a lift to access the first and second floors as well, so helpful for the elderly and differently abled.
The restaurant is also spacious and airy, open concept facing a courtyard of araliya trees. We had the dinner buffet (due to rain) which proved to be for the best as the spread was wonderful - the prawn curry in particular was exceptional! Breakfast was an equally fulfilling affair with a nice mix of Western and Sri Lankan delights. Salutations to the Chef for doing a fantastic job.
The staff are genuinely warm and friendly. Sidath (Resident Manager) and his team go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. They were always inquiring about our well-being and very accommodating to requests - we requested a newspaper in the morning and it was there before 7am! Managing Director Manjari was present at the hotel as well and is also a warm personality who makes guests feel at home.
If you want a place to stay right in the Fort whilst you walk around and explore this historic and cultural place, this hotel is the one you should pick.

The hotel is very well located in the center of Galle. But I really cannot rate it more than 3.5 stars. The price per room per night ($285 for a family room - we were a family of three) was a lot of money for the accommodation offered and by far the most we spent in the whole of Sri Lanka. The room was large but right on the corner of two busy streets. The aircon was old and we had to get the flap isolated as it made a noise which kept us awake. The breakfast is vast but by no means first class. Each morning we had to go around the corner to buy take away coffee from Dumplings cafe (excellent) to have at breakfast as the instant coffee was undrinkable. No swimming pool and no bar (the hotel is unlicensed). The service is the saving grace. But this hotel can really do better.

We stayed 3 nights at the Heritage Hotel in 4 single rooms for Rs. 8000 on BB basis.
It was a very good rate for the excellent amenities and service.
The hotel has ample parking within the premises, which is rare for a hotel inside the Fort. The Manager, Chef and the staff were very caring and polite, always checking on our well being throughout our stay.
The room was well equipped with crisp clean linen and even bathrobes and toilet slippers. The room had a mini bar and hair dryer as well. The washroom had bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. So you only have to bring your toothbrush and tooth paste with you! The air conditioner worked very well. And the bed was very comfortable.
The hotel is very central and walking distance from all the sites, shops and restaurants. And we felt very safe walking even after 9.30pm.
We enjoyed sitting on the large balcony on the easy chairs (hansi putu) just looking over the lovely garden full of Frangipani Trees and rooftops.
The food was good specially the western breakfast, Pol Roti breakfast and sweet corn soup at dinner! Yummy!
Thank you to the Management and Staff for a lovely stay!

The Heritage Hotel is a brand new hotel in a very old Dutch fort where almost all the other hotels are re-adapted original buildings with a lot of history, rustic damp walls, character and old world charm. But if you don't care for all that or you are scared of old buildings and their ghosts, this is the perfect hotel for you in the Galle fort. It's also very peaceful and quiet, a haven to return to after strolling the busy alleys and cafes of the Fort. The architecture is a hybrid between sri Lankan beach hotel architecture and architecture from the British period. There is absolutely nothing Dutch about it.
The entire hotel is nice and clean as it is still very new and with well maintained green spaces. It's centrally located with safe parking on the property but with everything within walking distance and it is probably the largest property in the galle fort.
The room was equipped with all the standard stuff and good WIFI, but was rather small and had only a garden view. At LKR 24,000 just for the room (without any breakfast) this is at the high end but instead of a double bed they could give only two single beds. There aren't many employees or guests around but the staff who are around were quite helpful.

we found this hotel by walking past and looking in so we went to ask for the room prices. what a find this little gem is. superb location near the old dutch hospital, next to some nice restaurants but only a few minutes walk down the lane to Cargils Express (little grocery store) and the fort itself.
the bed was ginormous and the room was very clean, although a bit dark but that is just the way they are built. the room comes with a fridge and A/C and you get two little bottles of water every day.
the building itself is in the colonial style with one huge balcony area where you access the rooms. there are lovely loungers outside each room where you can relax.
the staff were superb, absolutely lovely and wonderful. starting with the maintenance and cleaning crew who made sure we stayed toped up with water, coffee etc, they even left the things outside the door the one day we forgot to remove the do not disturb sign.
Also our waiter, Sunimal and the chef Udesh were so friendly, polite and attenuative and the breakfast was not only delicious but it was everything you wanted, so much food we were set all day.
and a big thank you also to Lakshani and Hirudima for making us so welcome overall in their hotel.
thank you everyone, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the hotel. next time we are in Galle we will definitely come back!

Heritage Hotel Galle Fort is a lovely place if you are searching for a place to stay inside the famous Dutch fort. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic the hotel was with Zero foreign guests but the garden and the rooms were well maintained. The rooms are spacious with king size beds and large bath rooms. The restaurant serves you delicious meals with well attentive service. And their rate during this period is well affordable for the locals and hopefully the hotel might not having huge margins during this time. Sidath the Resident Manager was very helpful and personally attend on the requests of any guests. Finally we highly recommend this property and once the pandemic is over hope you will visit Sri Lanka and stay The Heritage Hotel Galle Fort.
Cheers

We had five lovely days stay in the heritage hotel. The rooms were decorated in the traditional manner but with good modern touches such as great WiFi and super showers. It was just to right place to relax.
Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were always very friendly and helpful - a real credit to the hotel
We loved the little sweets which were delivered to our room nightly and we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Galle

Booked by our Sri Lankan Tour agent for 2 nights stay. Excellent location right in the heart of the Fort area and easy walking distance for in and around the Fort, which is lively. Hotel is a great colonial building, with large rooms and usual amenities expected in the room. Service was rather disappointing as was the breakfast which was very minimal. No buffet breakfast- small glass of juice, some (very few baked beans), and what they served was meagre. Another major service disappointment was when we requested water at breakfast and tap water was brought over. We requested water from the filtered water fountain and that was refused, saying we would have to buy bottled water instead..Overall a disappointing stay, poor breakfast and service could and should have been alot better.

Dear Valued Guest, I refer to your recent stay with us at The Heritage Hotel Galle Fort and your corresponding posting on TripAdvisor. I am sorry to read that your stay was marred with deficiencies and wish to take this opportunity, in order to apologies for any inconveniences caused. We are normally provide daily 2 water bottle each room complimentary basis. As I discussed with you at the restaurant we only serve filtered water and bottled water. We do not mention anywhere in our restaurant bottle water is free of charge. also we do not provide daily buffet breakfast. Untill now no one has complain regarding juice which we serve. Please check the below comments for your consideration. I sincerely hope that the mentioned short comings did not mar your opinion about our services in general and would be pleased to have you among our valued guests also during your future visits to the destination. The team and I are looking forward to welcoming you back in the hopefully not too distant future and assure you of our best care and attention at all time. Thank you, Sidath Ranasinghe Resident Manager

Recently modernised in the colonial style, the Heritage Hotel makes a good base in Galle Fort. Our room, where we spent four nights, was on the second floor, reachable by lift, with a communal balcony. The room had high ceilings and was very cool, but lacked windows, having only carved wooden grilles placed high up and a shutter arrangement behind the mirror which was difficult to get at. This made the room seem rather dark and claustrophobic.
We arrived just as Galle Fort was starting to shut down due to the Covid 19 restrictions, so there were very few people staying there and restaurants were closing.
The Sri Lankan breakfast was delicious, consisting of two kinds of hoppa, dosai and coconut rotti with dhal, fish and meat curries, and two types of sambal; we barely dented it. Western-style breakfasts were good too. Having stayed in lots of isolated places, going out for dinner was a joy.
The hotel manager was very helpful when we were trying (unsuccessfully) to get an earlier flight home.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel although this was curtailed by the Corona virus crisis. The hotel stayed open to help guests from other nearby accommodation which could not offer meals to their residents. The staff were unendingly helpful in allowing us full use of all the facilities and helped us to resolve our travel problems due to the shutdown of the area and subsequent curfew.
