Location is very close to national park entrance, however tickets are not sold there and needs to be arranged seperately. "Simple" in title really means what it is and should set expectations when visiting it. There is by no means luxury, its really simple, however there are basic facilities (shower, etc) available. Food choice is limited (although prepared really good),...

This lodge is in a great location overlooking Sinharaja Rainforest and allows easy access to the national park. But that's where it ends, the access road is awful and requires a 4WD to transport guests and luggage, not much fun in the dark. The rooms are very basic and bed hard and uncomfortable. No hot water in the showers which...

We stayed for two days at Martin's Lodge during a round trip of 16 days in Sri Lanka. It was the worst of all places, not because it was extremely simple (no hot water, electricity not always available) but because the main building was under major construction (adding of another level to build more guest rooms) - see pictures. The...

This is perfect for visiting Sinharaja National Park, where we spent dawn to dusk of our two full days. It's located only a short walk from the gate. But the rooms are very, very basic. The mattresses are hard, sheets did not seem entirely clean and the toilet had a leking sink and a very basic low-pressure shower with onlyn...

I cannot say anything more about this place....it is already famous with bird-watchers and researchers coming to Sinharaja National Park. The location is prime and offers a beatiful view of the rain-forest with various walking trails. Living conditions are basic but they are more than made up for by Mr. Martin and his staff who are courteous and prompt. The...

The children and I stayed for 1 night during Aug 2013. Cars are parked at the bottom of a steep lane, in a reserved parking area, and a waiting 4-wheel drive takes you up to the lodge (and returns you when leaving). Location is wonderful and the restaurant looks out over the forest where we immediately spotted monkeys and blue...

We visited Martin's lodge part of wildlife tour in Sri Lanka, arrived there after transfered by 4x4 and very close to national park. We were given room number 1, very dark and strong smell of damp, sheets are very damp and smelly. when we discovered there is no hot water and our toilet soil pipe was leaking into shower floor......

The place is more than an ordinary, mainly due to your host, Mr. Martin Wijesingha, who knows the details of Sinharaja forest. Time I allocated to discuss with him was truly beneficial for knowing the nature, birds, animals, social structure and old Sri Lanka. The rooms and toilets are very basic, but very clean and much better than some guest...

Let me say the good things first: Martin’s Lodge is located close to the entrance of the Sinharaja Rainforest, a real jewel of Sri Lanka. The lodge is embedded in the surrounding nature, so you really get the feeling of “being in the middle of it”, with all the jungle sounds and lots of animals to be seen from the...

It is a good place to stay. It is close to the entrance to Sinharaja National Park. The rooms are clean. The food is good and tasty. Mr. Martin Wijesingha the owner is a legend, he knows the birds and animals in the area. He was one of the first nature guides in the area. When you look in bird...

“there are none!!! however if you are unfortunate enough to have to stay there make sure that you purchase your tickets for the park prior to the 4x4 transfer when you arrive in the village this will save you having to walk the 4km down to the main gate and then the same 4km back to the park entrance.”
