Breakfast is first class - fruit platters, juices, a bread / pastry basket and a good choice of traditional cooked breakfasts. The hoppers are excellent!
There's also a lovely spa tucked at the back of the hotel with a good range of treatments at reasonable prices, where I had an excellent massage.
The lighting in the bedroom could be better, and the four poster bed was rather creaky, but wifi was good and air-con excellent.
I had a man do the facial and it was one of the best and most thorough facials of my life. He was attentive and very kind on top of being extremely skilled with skincare. It's a rather simple facial; it includes a cleanse, exfoliate, steam/extractions, mask and massage but wow, all of the products felt amazing on my skin and worked wonders. My face was breaking out from all the heat, humidity and pollution and after this facial my skin looked AND felt amazing.
He was extremely thorough with extractions, I often feel this area gets rushed but no way with him. I love how he steamed my face with the exfoliate on, cleansed my skin, steamed it more, did extractions, steamed again and then did further extractions. He covered every pore on my face, this man is a wizard.
The spa is gorgeous and I loved all of the little touches. I arrived early to take a shower which by the way is stunning and relaxing. Pre facial I was given a delicious fresh juice and post facial water and yummy cookies. I even opted to get a tea in the cafe after and it was complimentary.
Amazing service all around!
Galle Fort, which has a fascinating history, having successively been colonised by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. This hotel is a restored Dutch building, with bedrooms set around a courtyard affording spacious accommodation. Very comfortable, with attentive staff and good breakfast (we didn't have any other meals). We enjoyed complimentary drinks between 5 and 6pm. One small criticism - the bedroom lighting was a little too subdued, making it difficult to read at night.
Some lovely touches in the service here which differentiated it from everywhere else we stayed - the complimentary tea and cake in the afternoon and the social hour in the bar between 5-6pm when we were able to enjoy complimentary G&Ts.
The restaurant is well used by residents and passers by which again added to the atmosphere.
The staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful.
Would not hesitate to recommend and would hope to return in the future.
We will try thr other tear drop hotels soon
Food is more expensive than most local places but very good so worth the price.
Would 100% recommend this hotel for stays in Galle. Could not fault it!
There is a bell in your room you can “push for champagne”. The young bellman gave us these instructions. “You can push this bell for champagne and my colleague will bring you a glass. But unfortunately not today because it is Full Moon day”
Full moon day is a Buddhist holiday known as Poya - and no alcohol is sold that day. I guess we could have tried it in the morning!
The spacious cool rooms are a treat to return to after a day out in the hot sun.
The hotel is very well located close to but just off the busy streets where most of the restaurants and shops are
Complimentary afternoon tea & cakes and happy hour drinks are a very nice touch
The breakfast menu has a great choice and our meals were delicious.
I would definitely recommend this hotel
