One of our two favourite hotels in Sri Lanka! We chose this hotel again for our second trip to Sri Lanka for a longer acclimatisation after a long flight from Germany and for the last night before departure. After our first trip to Sri Lanka (02/2020) this time we stayed a little longer (12/2022) to enjoy all the wonderful amenities of this place and the friendliness of absolute everybody there. You can find everything at Villa Hundira for a relaxing stay also over some days. There are a villa and some smaller buildings with lots of hidden seats and places to rest all around (and have a meal or a drink there, if you like), two pools, a roof terrace with a view, a small water arm winding through the area leading to the lagoon (no beach) and lots of flowers beautifully arranged all over. Food and service are simply perfect and you can have one of the best massages I know right in a mini SPA in the garden. The owners live on the area also (and you can stay in their original villa, too) which explains, what the owner Indira told us: this is a home in first place and only accidentally a hotel. They have a social project also on the area where handcrafted items are made and sold. Since I knew about the beauty of the place and the special feeling there, I chose this place to propose marriage to the lady of my heart (and she accepted!). 💕…
After all the negative years with Covid and political unrest we were keen to return to Sri Lanka for a 9th time. Our favourite Villa Talangama has closed so we picked Villa Hundira as a possible replacement... what a good choice that was. Well situated 30 mins from the airport we had the place to ourselves, great for us but a tragedy for them as they struggle to stay open and still offer such amazing facilities. Spotlessly clean rooms and pool areas, the meals were to order with choices as they do their best to cope after busier times. The attached THIMBLE workshop is well worth a visit and our granddaughter was looked after so well there painting and making cards. The fabric creations on offer are beautiful and very affordable with such a good concept of helping the local fishermen wives. Go... go now... it is simply exquisite. Thoroughly recommended. …
We stayed at Villa Hundira for our first night in Sri Lanka. It was a great place to relax after a long flight, with self-contained areas including pools, attentive manager and staff, beautiful and quiet setting, delicious food, and a shop selling some gorgeous tapestry and other arts & crafts made by women in groups supported by the villa. Highly recommended.
We have spent our first night in Sri Lanka in Villa Hundira, an intimate and quiet hotel, 30 minutes away from the airport, with beautiful facilities. It was the perfect start for our honey moon. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the food amazing (you can taste the real sri lankan breackfast), our room was very comfortable, spacious and clean. The environment is a wonderful place to relax.
We stayed at villa hundira for 2 nights primo July 2022. We loved every thing about it. The service and smiles from the staff. The decorations and colors. The beautiful rooms. The pool was outside our room, which was so nice. Top recommendations from us.
You would never expect this place when looking at the road it’s off nor the rutted lane to get to it. It is a haven of beauty, I won’t quite say tranquillity, as it's close to the airport's flight path and the local bird calls are loud, strident and very insistent, especially at 4 am! The grounds are quite something with an offshoot of the lagoon running through them with trees growing all over the place. Quite delightful. So far so good but now comes the but! But the dinner offered was meagre, poor and horribly overpriced, quoted in dollars then charged in rupees. I can’t say what exchange rate they used but I would guess it was an attractive one, to them that is. The manager was most insistent we committed to dinner the second night before we left for the day and simply refused to take ‘we don’t know if we are eating in or out’ for an answer, he simply kept asking and asking, in an increasingly determined voice. He nearly ended up in the lagoons offshoot! We fell for buying a bottle of wine, as they only had wine or beer, only to find for $25 we had a bottle of cheap South African plonk I would have paid no more than £5 for in the UK. The second problem concerned my wife. We acknowledge she is very attractive to mosquitoes so when she woke up with a leg looking like a spotted dick, we, initially, put it down to the little flying blighters. However, all the bites were on the one leg in touch with the bed, none itched, and she was only bitten a few more times in the other 23 days we were in the country. So, were they mosquito bites or something else in the bed? We will never know for sure, but we have a pretty solid idea of what caused them. I am delighted we were only staying there for two nights, and should I ever return to Sri Lanka I will make sure to give the place a very wide berth. A pity because all but one of the staff were first rate.…
When you arrive here and go through the gate, it is like entering another world, an oasis in Negombo. Everything is beautifully done with lovely little features everywhere... water pools, vegetation. Our suite was huge and lovely and rustic with a massive carved wood door which was locked with a metal pole. The food was a little questionable (there was lots of microwave pinging going on) compared to other places we stayed, but we could live with it. The lady at reception (sorry, can't remember name) was lovely and really helpful with trying to get our delayed case from the airport. All in all, would recommend.
The villa opened its doors to my family and I to host a dinner party and Indira,Janith and team went above and beyond to make the occasion extra special! The stay at the villa was amazing as well. It really felt like home away from home. The stunning interior designing, delicious food and relaxing environment is just out of this world. Love the villa including Tipsy and Missy (the true owners). A 10/10.
My partner and I enjoyed every bit of our stay at Villa Hundira... A beautiful property facing the lagoon, surrounded by nature, delicious food and the best staff with great hospitality... Thank you Villa Hundira for the lovely stay and greatest memories.... We will definitely re visit you 💛🌼
A great place to end our 10 day trip around Sri Lanka. Peaceful and relaxed, an ideal hotel to spend the start or end of your holiday. Rooms and dining tables are spread out in different areas giving an air of calm, relaxation and privacy. The pool had just been cleaned and was lovely. We had the honour of meeting the owner, and were very well looked after by all the staff. Room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast and dinner very good.
