British and Slovenian pair travelling for first time to Sri Lanka. This family hostel was very friendly and helpful. We arrived late, they greeted us with beers and didnt mind if we stayed up to have a few more aslong as we kept it quiet. They sorted us out with our travel to Sigiriya for a very good price. Breakfast was good quality local food. A family home that really look after you. 100% recommend and will return.

Good option for a overnight stay before or after the flight. The hosts are extremely good-natured and hospitable, they were trying to do their very best to ensure we are happy and content with everything. The included breakfast was really good, and they also organised a transfer to the airport by the host personally. All in all, a very good option with national flavour.

Had to find a place to stay near the airport urgently at night. This place was perfect. Owner was very kind and helpful. Business was run very well and the owners mother provided us with a very nice Sri Lankan breakfast. Whatever we needed the owner was happy to oblige including pick up drop off services. Room was very comfortable and place with a typical Sri Lankan home with a nice upstairs patio area giving the unique Sri Lankan home experience. If you truly want to see what the real Sri Lanka is lik, this is the place to go. To the owner, you have expressed your interest in travelling to NZ! Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children) stayed here for one night and were served the most amazing Sri Lankan breakfast (still the best breakfast of our almost 2 week tour of Sri Lanka). Alanka and his family (and dog Rocky) gave us such a warm reception. This was conveniently located in proximity to the airport and Alanka also provides great travel tips.

Me and my 2 friends arrived at the airport at around 2am. He was waiting outside for like 30-50 minutes because there was a problem with our visa so we were late and he didn't even said one word about it. Also it was one of our first trip so far from home and he informed us litteraly about every thing you need to know. The room we booked was completely clean and good looking. The breakfast was tasty and his family was as kind as he was. So all in all it was breathtaking and i would go there again.

We began our Sri Lankan journey at Henderson Residence where we stayed for 1 night before starting a 10 day tour. The room comfortably accommodated a family of 4 and Alanka's family prepared a most delicious Sri Lankan breakfast. Additionally, Alanka accompanied us on our travels throughout Sri Lanka, making great recommendations. We highly recommend Henderson Residence and using Alanka's expertise for travel.

What more can I ask for.. a beautifully run family guesthouse close to Colombo airport. We all slept comfortably in the family room. The best part was the sensational breakfast including egg hoppers! I would highly recommend Henderson if you are travelling through Colombo.. hopefully we’ll be back!

I used a booking website to book a room at this property for one night. My husband and I were reaching Colombo late at night and wanted a place to stay close to the hotel before heading off for Unawatuna the next morning. During my booking I had selected my check in time around 11ish pm. This was within the check in time offered by the property of (13:00 to 00:30). The owner emailed me saying that this was a home stay property and not a hotel and that I should book myself a hotel. I found this message confusing and called the property. The owner repeated the same thing to me. I told him that I had no issue with the place not being a hotel and just wanted to know if it was ok for me to arrive late as my flight was landing at 10 p.m. To this the owner agreed. I then asked the owner about airport pick up and he told me to WhatsApp him. The conversation that ensued was absolutely horrific! First the owner told me the airport pick up rates. As these were expensive, I told him that I would get a cab. He then asked me what rate I would be willing to pay. I told him, and that did not work for him. For the second time during my interaction with him, he told me to cancel the booking if I had made this expecting free airport pick up. I told him that was not the case and we would get there on our own. The owner then started questioning me about the room and offered me a free upgrade. I thought that was nice and was keen on accepting the offer. However, for the third time in the conversation, he told me to cancel the booking from the website I had used and that he would make the booking at his end. As my booking is close to New Years, I did not feel comfortable cancelling a booking without a confirmed booking in hand. So I asked the owner if it was ok for him to send me the confirmed booking first before I cancelled. The owner took offence Tk this and started asking me why i was along for an email and did I not trust him? (An extremely strange question coming from a man who I have never met... I mean, duh, it’s a business dealing ... send me a confirmation before I make changes at my end). Anyway, I told him that I did not know him and he had already asked me to cancel the room THRICE! He took a lot of offense to that and started saying that if I suspected him then I shouldn’t stay at the residence and I should cancel blablabla... Clearly this man is unprofessional and does not know how to deal with guests. He had some sort of ulterior motive for getting me to cancel the booking because of which it seemed like his standard response to everything. I have attached the conversation to give travellers a preview of what the owner is like. I have cancelled the booking and complained to the website that I made the booking from. Also, do read the negative reviews about this property as all of them are about the owner and his behaviour. I am glad that I have cancelled this booking especially after reading the review written by one lady who was turned away from the property on arrival.…

Our welcome to Sri Lanka from Alanka and his family was like visiting family, a home away from home. We were picked up around 12.30am from the airport, it was an extremely warm evening & after travelling a long way from Australia it was fantastic to arrive to a lovely family friendly place where the air conditioner & fans were on & a pot of tea was made to enjoy prior to a shower & rest. The place was extremely clean & the food was amazing, Sri Lankan tradition at it's best. 2 lovely nights spend here prior to heading to the south coast which I can recommend, this was my 1st visit to Sri Lanka where I felt very safe, nothing was too much trouble & our tuk tuk drivers arranged by Alanka saw us have a great couple of days in Negombo, thank you Alanka & your family along with Sammy our driver for making me feel like family & for introducing me to such an amazing place.…
