I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Rooms have good beds with proper nets, the shower and bathroom are clean and there is hot water (when the power is on, though there is a generator as well). Basic breakfast and dinner are provided and there is a shoping center a 5 minute walk away with restaurants. The best part are...

I stayed two months at Ujamaa Hostel during the fall 2014 and had both good and less good experiences. The good experiences: - Gasper, the hostel owner, was a big help in the beginning for a young woman (20 years old) travelling on her own. He took care of me, told me hundreds of times places to watch out and...

Highly recommended, great social atmosphere, very friendly staff, nice location. It felt like home, you'll definitely have a good time here. Ujamaa seems to attract a nice collection of travelers and volunteers always someone to have a couple beers and interesting conversation with. A private room is available but their common area and backyard is very relaxing. You don't spent...

First things first: All things are there: Mosquito nets, good service by the nice owners and decent food/ breakfast. There may be power cuts once in a while as Arusha is close to Mt Meru which brings quite some downpoors in the rainy season and Tanzanian electricity grids can't handle this. They got a generator, however, so you'll only got...

By far one of the best hostels I have ever stayed at! Ujama Hostel offers great quality for the price. Doubtful you could find anything cheaper in the area and if you did you certainly wouldn't get the quality that Ujamaa has to offer: super friendly and helpful staff, very safe, clean, comfy, spacious, delicious meals, great outdoor area, and...

I was here last summer in around end of August. I found this place a little bit pricey for its place ($20/night) but I'm probably silly because they actually provide breakfast and dinner and those were delicious Tanzanian food. Free laundry too which was a plus. The bed was alright, equipped with mosquito net. So, the price is so worth...

I liked the place very much! The staff was friendly and very caring and the dorm was nice and clean. The price included breakfast and dinner but sometimes the friendly staff gave me some extra food if I was hungry during the day. Staff is both local and international so living in the city was really easy. They helped as...

I surely recommend this place. Gasper the manager is the nicest person you will ever meet and so is his brother Evans and especially Micheal the driver who would take us anywhere and pick us up again at any given time. All of them are helpful especially for me and my teenage friend who ran in to a lot of...

Great place near the complex, with cinema and restaurants. It is near Arusha town also. The hostel has the best typical Tanzania food from the mamas. And the hostel aslo have super cute turtles in the garden!

n november I stayed for 3 weeks at Ujamaa. I was there to visit my daughter who is volunteering in Arusha. After a warm welcome I felt immediately at home. Although my age is a bit higher than the average age at the hostel, I enjoyed very much the atmosphere between the guests and the management. Together, we did some...
